about applying
If you'd like to apply for a character, you're in the right place! As of June 24, applications are now always open. Fill out one of the two forms on this page depending on the type of character you're applying for and post it in the comments of this entry. While you fill out your application, here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Please read over the rules and FAQ before you begin to fill out your application—This will save you headaches later!
  • Check the taken and reserved pages to make sure that your character isn't listed on either (unless you reserved them, naturally).
  • Please check your application for spelling and grammatical errors. While we're hardly going to reject for a misspelled word or two, a large amount of errors makes us much more likely to reject an application.
  • Plagiarism is unacceptable. If we find an application has been plagiarized, it will result in immediate rejection and a ban from the game.
  • You may app ONE character per round, for a total of THREE characters in the game. You may have two characters from the same canon provided they have little or no interaction in canon.
  • If you're already in the game, all of your current characters must have passed the last AC to apply for a new character. If this is your first character, don't worry about this, of course!
  • When posting your application, please format the subject line of your first comment in some form of Character Name - Series - Reserved/Unreserved in that order. Do not link to your application.
  • Original characters are allowed, but their applications are judged to a much higher standard than canon characters. We want to make sure that the character and their world are thought-out and developed. This isn't meant to discourage such characters in the slightest, so all this really means is take care to explain the world your character comes from especially, since all we have to judge them by is what you tell us!
  • If we ask for a revision, don't worry! Usually we just need clarification on something before we decide on your application. If you are asked for one, you have five days to supply the requested revision.

IC
NAME: Lithuania
CANON: Axis Powers Hetalia
CANON POINT: May 2013
AGE: appears ~19, is actually ~1000-2000 depending on where you start counting
APPEARANCE: click
PERSONALITY: Lithuania is gentle and patient--maybe even a pushover at times, prone to placation and compromise, willing to and able to endure a great deal. However, beneath this is a proud, stubborn nation, comfortable with himself and his duties. He's the young, cautious, chivalrous knight all grown up.

Just about anyone first meeting Lithuania would find him incredibly easy to get along with. Lithuania is very polite and friendly, willing to help out when he can. He seems to have near-infinite patience when it comes to most people, and certainly tries to see the best in those around him. And, it should be stated, he really is like that. It's just not all of him.

Lithuania is introverted. Most of the time, however, you won't know this. Lithuania is old enough to know how to handle a social situation in spite of it often exhausting him, and as such of the three Baltics Lithuania is the best at dealing with people smoothly. Still, he's prone to sneaking off on his own to wind down, and most of his hobbies are solitary, quiet ones.

However, he's not perfect. Lithuania is prone to distraction and impulsiveness at times. Often he'll be off daydreaming in the middle of a conversation and end up blurting out something he doesn't mean for the other person to hear--usually something far more blunt and rude than he'd ever intentionally tell them. They're not untrue things, though; he's more likely to accidentally offend someone he dislikes, which doesn't make the situation much better.

Lithuania's patience and optimism regarding people is well-known. Poland is often bossy and difficult to get along with, but Lithuania somehow manages to maintain a friendship with him. Lithuania also maintains a crush on Belarus. While she strikes others as obsessively interested in Russia and terrifying besides, none of this seems to even register to Lithuania, even when she's breaking his fingers. Indeed, when Lithuania wants to see the good in someone, he will see it near-exclusively, past the point where others would give up.

That's not, to say, that he is actually a pushover. He does have that first impression, and he is willing to bend on various matters to make things easier. Really, though, he's quite proud, and there are things he will not budge on. When these limits are reached, Lithuania becomes much more difficult to deal with--often he will go out of his way to make things more difficult. Push Lithuania too far and he will fight you and not stop until he's gotten what he wants or he literally cannot fight. This doesn't always express itself as a physical attack, although it can; Lithuania is patient. If it seems as if he isn't fighting when he should be, he's waiting for opportunity.

Hanging over a lot of this application is the matter of Russia, who held Lithuania for hundreds of years, both as Imperial Russia and Soviet Russia. While he's free now, his time with Russia was not pleasant for him. He's scared of Russia, and for good reasons. Soviet Russia, especially, was not the most stable or gentle. Lithuania acted as something of a cross between maid and personal secretary for Russia (often Lithuania is seen in the strips trailing behind Russia with various papers), and while he did not enjoy any of this, there was little he could do at the time (of course, he did try; Lithuania was known for being quite rebellious throughout his occupation). It's little wonder, then, that Russia will cause shaking and nervousness. Lithuania's dealings with Russia are a bit complicated; there is a lot of anger and resentment there, but whether or not Lithuania will say he hates the other nation depends on the day and his mood.

Poland is also of importance in Lithaunia's personality and history in general. They've been neighbors for hundreds of years, and once they shared a Commonwealth between them. Poland is pushy and bossy, but Lithuania is patient and forgiving. Still, that's not to say they always get along. Saying they argue like an old married couple might not be entirely incorrect: when they do get into fights, and it does happen, they're often very dramatic ones. Poland is proof that Lithuania's patience is not actually limitless, but he's also proof that Lithuania is capable of a great deal of forgiveness at times. While they aren't as close now as they were once, they are still friends, although it's more a matter of Lithuania and Poland the people being friends, rather than Lithuania and Poland the nations. Lithuania is much less likely to put up with Poland's bossiness lately, and so this does lead to friction between them. Still, when they're not dealing with politics and serious issues, they can spend time together doing silly, inconsequential things. Still, Poland is very good at making Lithuania worry.

Worrying, incidentally, is something Lithuania does often as a general rule. He often complains of stomachaches, and these are a direct result of the stress of worrying about nearly everything. He can be rather fussy when it comes to people he cares about, even mothering at times, and when he decides something needs to be done he's going to worry about it until it's complete. It's when he's worrying about things he can't fix that he starts to make himself sick, and it often expresses itself in compulsive cleaning or general bursts of activity. Lithuania doesn't like not being able to do anything about his problems.

All of this does point to a person used to going out and accomplishing things, and this is never better-expressed than on a battlefield. Lithuania has what's best described as an "aura" during a fight. His normal mild, somewhat nervous attitude changes to one that's confident, in control, occasionally even vicious. Raising morale and leading an army into battle are things Lithuania can do as easily as breathing, and it's hard at times to believe he's the same person. It's the greatest expression of Lithuania's proud nature. He has a strong sense of duty to his people that guides everything he does, and a fight is a very clear, simple expression of this. He fights with all he has because his people need him to fight.

Indeed, duty and loyalty are very important to Lithuania. As a country he has been through a great deal of hardship, and in this time he's become very aware of what's important to him. He is willing to forgive because once someone has endeared themselves to him he will remain loyal. He has a very well-worn set of priorities that he adheres to. It's not something he thinks about at this point, it's just what he does.

Lithuania has been through a lot of difficult, troubling things. However, he isn't one to dwell on that sort of thing if he can avoid it. Sure, he worried about things that might happen or are happening, but he does believe in the future. Lithuania believes very strongly that if you endure and push and fight for it, things will get better. In times of trouble, this is what he falls back on--he will endure this, and it will get better. Whatever may happen, Lithuania will endure.

Lithuania's gentleness and pleasant nature is in part a result of this: you can't be miserable all the time. That's letting your enemy win, too, in a way. Lithuania can find happiness in bad places. That's not to say he's happy with the surrounding situation, simply that he won't allow the situation to take control of him.

Lithuania is indeed quite proud. Not selfish or mean, but he believes in his people and therefore in himself. It's why there are things Lithuania will not stand for: his people deserve happiness, he deserves what he has fought for, and he will not stand to see that taken unjustly. He will react very strongly to that sort of thing, and he will do what he believes is necessary to take back what he lost.

Lithuania is not a large country now, but there was a time when he was the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the largest country in Europe. Lithuania fought hard to reach that, an urge born out of his desperate need to defend his people from the attacks that were coming on all sides. Lithuania as a tribe became Lithuania as a country because of this; he formed a Commonwealth with Poland for similar reasons. His own feelings don't matter as much as those of his people.

At times Lithuania takes action that could be called selfish, and maybe it is. It's not a matter of selfishness, though; it's duty. Lithuania will serve his people above all else, and he doesn't hide that fact. If Lithuania does something that could be considered selfish or ruthless, it is because he has decided it's what his people need. It's not that Lithuania's moral code rearranges itself for his people, it's that Lithuania's highest code is "I will serve my people to the best of my ability".

Lithuania is the oldest of what could be called a trio: himself, Estonia, and Latvia make up the Baltic region currently. Occasionally they are mistaken for siblings, but they aren't really; if you were to call them anything, it would be cousins. And for quite some time they were more like strangers than anything, usually polite but occasionally clashing. It's the Soviet times that really taught them to work together as a group and support each other in gaining independence. Lately they have a great deal of interconnected systems, and even though Latvia is a bit lonely, Estonia would rather be considered Nordic, and Lithuania's often distracted by Poland, they'll be there for each other when it counts; they've learned there are times when they have to be.

Overall, Lithuania is a very nice person, easy to talk to and friendly to just about everyone, if rather nervous and unsure. Beneath this, though, is a confident nation when it comes to knowing what he wants. He's fought to get what he has, and he's proud of that, though there's no need to be rude about it. He's always thinking about how to increase and maintain happiness, which leads to his worrying. Still, he's very close to normal as far as nations go, and he's a good friend to have.
PROJECTED CLASS: I believe Lithuania's best fit is the paladin class. While knight would probably be more thematically appropriate as far as class names go, paladin fits Lithuania's style in a far better manner. Paladins fight with swords, are quicker on their feet, and in general seem to be more closely matching Lithuania's philosophy and style.

FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: here
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE Lithuania wasn't entirely certain what he'd expected out of "guild missions", but guarding someone's garden wasn't it. It wasn't even a particularly well-maintained garden, in Lithuania's opinion--though maybe he'd arrived at that decision only after the fourth or fifth hour of leaning against the fence observing it. Of course he'd been polite enough about accepting the job; the other options for his rank seemed about the same quality, so he doubted anyone else with his level of experience was having a more riveting time.

The carrots were so unevenly spaced, though, and it was starting to bother him a lot more than it really should be. He had the sudden, ridiculous thought to reorganize the plot of land entirely, but somehow he didn't think transplanting dozens and dozens of plants a few inches to the left or right of where they already were would be appreciated, even if the work would have given him something productive to do.

The rustling sound in the bushes not far off, therefore, is enough to draw his full attention. Nothing has happened for hours--maybe someone really was coming to steal cabbages or maim the cucumbers?

It was a rabbit. Which he could have expected, really.

"Go on, shoo," Lithuania said, sounding a tough exasperated in spite of himself. The rabbit, meanwhile, ignored him entirely--sparing him a wary glance before taking cautious inches toward the vegetables. "Hey! Go on, go get food somewhere else!"

Lithuania took a few steps forward and the thing ran off, finally. His adventure for the night, apparently. Maybe he'd wasted it too quickly. After making sure there wasn't anything else in the bushes waiting for his inattention, Lithuania returned to his previous post and drew his sword. The weight was familiar, even though this sword wasn't one he'd used at home. It was--interesting, to put one to common use again.

Not that he'd be getting into many fights worth using it with bunnies. Still, he began going through a few simple moves, fighting the air with ease and familiarity. A stab there, a sweeping strike here, a dodge and a shuffling sort of block--Lithuania's mind filled in his imaginary partner's steps and he reacted accordingly.

So he didn't notice the next rabbit until it was almost at the carrots. That was why he'd ended up tripping over the fence and landing face-first in the dirt. But that did scare the rabbit away.

IC
NAME: Your character's name.
CANON: Shitsurakuen
CANON POINT: Post-Canon
AGE: 21
APPEARANCE: Pictured here
PERSONALITY: Koharu embodies many of the so-called 'princess' ideals. She's pretty, kind-hearted, mothering, self-sacrificing, somewhat servile and a fairly good cook. While she doesn't trust easily persay, she trusts completely. She has faith in Sora and she takes a lot of her strength from that. She's clearly the type of girl who is destined to be a follower, not a leader. She likes helping others and takes a good measure of her self-worth from that. Her affection for those who help her is clear and she has no qualms about showing that affection. In fact she can be a bit too affectionate at times, but that has calmed down somewhat at her age. Time has lent her a more mature charm and a grace she lacked as a teenager.

She was caught up in Sora's quest for justice not because she has the determination to right wrongs, but because Sora does and she believes in Sora and her ideals with all her heart. Since Sora saved her, every action Koharu has taken has to further Sora's ideas and to make life easier for her. Whether that involves looking up things, cooking, cleaning or producing her weapon for Sora when she is fighting, she has devoted herself entirely to her knight and will always defend what Sora does. Not having her friends here to help will make her falter a bit, but she'll just dedicate that determination to her new friends and hope they can find a way home.

It doesn't mean that she won't instruct Sora as she gives direction and tries to make sure Sora is hurt as little as possible. She doesn't mind when the backlash hits her though, because the pain is for Sora and can be beared. Her only true fears were men and the power they exerted over her in Exa Clan. But slowly, she has gained the strength of will to stand up to them, to fight for herself as she did after Sora's weapons were captured. Though, it appears she didn't really learn much about standing up for herself. In the end, she even blames herself for the way she treated her original 'owner' and apologizes to him. Though perhaps, it was her own way of standing up for herself. She had feelings that she knew others wouldn't approve of and she knew he would react harshly to her kind words. That he would most likely think her silly or naive. She admits that feeling wanted by him, in that he kept battling Sora to win her back, was desirable. It made her happy--like perhaps beneath the cruel way he treated her there was a real sentiment. After all the pain he put her through, Koharu was somewhat attached to him too. She can take risks, small ones, if she believes that her feelings are important and need to be heard.

Once she trusts people, she makes friends fairly easily, looking for their good points. She can even be completely blind to the faults, preferring the idealized image. If a friend was putting up a smiling happy front, Koharu would accept it completely. That isn't to say that she lacks empathy. Familiarity with her friends finds the cracks in their facades and she wants to know how they feel and if she can help lift their moods. She forgives easily, preferring to trust others as allies rather than hold grudges. It's easier to forgive and push things to the past, as she generally loathes confrontations and harsh words. In fact she may completely lack the ability to hold a grudge, seeing as she forgave the boy who abused her as a student.
PROJECTED CLASS: Merchant; While Koharu might be interested in a class that heals, like the oracle, a fear of holding others back from winning a mission or getting ahead in their classes will guide her towards a non-combat role. Being a merchant is similar enough to the jobs back home that she would settle into it easier than any other class. She would enjoy selling and interacting with people, though her nature would probably mean she wouldn't turn very much of a profit.
This is role isn't set in stone though, as anyone guiding or pushing her in the game towards a particular class will probably have a significant effect on what she comes out as. One of her flaws is her likeliness to follow others and a dislike of saying no.
OTHER: None!

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE Flipping a sign from closed to open, Koharu props open the door to catch the morning breeze. It's an old habit that make her sweep the stoop in front of her shop door and a new one that has her tilting the potions in her window to catch the light. It's a slow start to the day, like it always is, with the bustle waiting until the dew has dried.

She carries a little of everything in her shop, by necessity really. She's too new to specialize quite yet and it's easier to get things here and there than worry herself over finding all the types of a particular item. Sure, her potions sell better than the little selection of clothes, but the styles she like really doesn't sell well here. Things from home stand out. She doesn't mind. Someone from home might come and see and buy something that reminds them of what they used to wear. Cute skirts. delicate tops--really things only other merchants or the dancers could afford to wear with all the fighting outside the walls--but styles from home nonetheless.

She passes an hour rearranging the contents of her wide wooden shelves and with the door propped open, the small cough at her back catches her off guard atop a ladder with an arm full of scrolls. Glancing over her shoulder as best as she can, she nearly jumps to find a palading in full armor standing just behind her. Shoot, she has to put these down without messing up the order she had started--but she has to attend to her customer as quickly as possibly. She bites her tongue to keep from babbling and smiles.

"Oh, I forgot I didn't have the bell at the door to warn me. Give me just a moment." He waves it off as she quickly just pushes everything aside to climb down. He's in and out and off with a dozen potions--a very nice start to her day--and she gives the shelf a glance. A mess again, her haphazard throwing ruined what she had started. Smiling, even as she sighs, she lifts her skirt to start up the ladder again.

IC
NAME: Bilbo Baggins
CANON: The Hobbit {Cinematic Universe}
CANON POINT: Post!Unexpected Journey
AGE: 50
APPEARANCE: Picture
PERSONALITY:
A Baggins of Bag End. Respectable. Usual. Never doing anything that one wouldn't expect, thus never, well, doing much of anything outside of living comfortably, quietly. Hobbits in general keep to their borders and shy away from the business of the outside world, much preferring to fuss over food and drink and their small town sensibilities than become involved in what the bigger folk are currently quarreling over. For the most part, Bilbo shares this sentiment by having long since buried his childhood fantasties of adventure and travel, but then a wizard and a group of dwarves infiltrate his home and well, he remembers, a little. A lot. Enough to have him running out his door.

There's quite a bit of spontaneity to Bilbo, even if he tries to say otherwise – and when it does show up, it's only a result of his Took side, thank you – and faint as it is to his own eyes, he has bravery in him. That isn't to say he isn't afraid – he is most of the time, actually – but when given a task, whether he likes it or not, he ends up playing along to do what needs to be done. Surprising, perhaps, seeing as he's quite stubborn and determined not to get involved in anything remotely dangerous or messy; see, he has backbone and isn't opposed to stating his opinion, but it tends to show up only after a round of pleasantries. He wants to be nice to others. He's been brought up to be polite and welcoming, but that sociability is easier to maintain with, say, other hobbits who harbor the same sort of hospitality. Bilbo, however, is finding that Gandalf and more so dwarves are more in-tune with saying what's on their mind much more bluntly. It takes some time, but Bilbo does have a habit of becoming riled up and while there is still that semi-pleasant flare to his words, he gets bossy and short and final. Not that anyone ever listens to him, but.

He fidgets and gestures a lot. Straightening his jacket. Fiddling with his pockets. Hand clenching. Pointing. Wringing his fingers. Shifting. He's very animated when he talks and he's quite fond of making faces to personify his thoughts, which in turn, makes him very open, unwilling as it is. He's forthright and easy to read, for the most part; it's very difficult for him to, convincingly, be dishonest. There is a small, smidgeon of a lying bone in his body, but his falsehoods are jumbled and awkward, only seeming to work on those not quite... intelligent enough to realize he's thinking on his feet – for example, his buying time with the trolls and stealing the ring from Gollum, though even Gollum figured him out. He's clever, but even then, he tends to fall into such ingenuity. It's almost as though he stumbles into it and then tries to run with the idea, even as he's stuttering and fumbling through the words. It's as Gandalf said; there's a lot more to Bilbo than appearances suggest, but without the experience to back him up, Bilbo's natural wit and resourcefulness may take time to develop and be fine-tuned. He'll get there, however. Hopefully.

For how sheltered those within the Shire are, Bilbo is quite trusting. Though maybe that's why he is. There isn't a great deal to fear in the Shire and for the most part, people get along well enough, so when dwarf after dwarf show up on his doorstep, Bilbo doesn't react as he probably should. There's suspicion and a great deal of unease, but he lets – when they barge in – the dwarves into his home and then proceeds to feed them – Dwalin, at least, the rest do it themselves. They're strangers to him; strangers with weapons, and yet his biggest fit shown is him, politely, trying to let them down easy and request they leave. Even so, when Gandalf shows up and everything is revealed, he still runs off to join these strangers on a quest. He puts a great deal of trust in them and becomes loyal to their cause – aside from a momentary hiccup – and despite how, brash the dwarves are toward him in the beginning, Thorin in particular, he doesn't let that affect his affinity. He risks his life, actually; foolishly throwing himself at an orc, he buys time for a wounded Thorin, seemingly willing to put whatever he has into the quest he shouldn't be so devoted to. It says a lot about his nature, and how despite how he feels incapable of doing great deeds or facing down anything remotely fearsome, his need to help others outweighs any ill-givings he's had to endure.

Following that thought, it can be said that he's very resilient. He complains at times – he still misses his handkerchief, okay? – but he does surprisingly well for someone who's lived in comfort all his life. Sleeping on the ground in a new place every night, walking all day, barely eating, living in the same clothes and giving up a daily rinse... yes, maybe the wild isn't for gentlefolk, but Bilbo tries. So maybe he'll become an adventurer yet; he just needs the time and opportunity to prove it.

IC
NAME: Ada Vessalius
CANON: Pandora Hearts (manga)
CANON POINT: Post Chapter 54
AGE: 18
APPEARANCE: here!

PERSONALITY: Ada was born the younger of Zai Vessalius’ two children, but later became the elder after her brother Oz spent his time trapped in the Abyss. But Ada wasn’t so much raised by her father as she was by her Uncle Oscar. Nonetheless she was raised to be a proper noblewoman. That meant attending social gatherings and creating and maintaining a good image fit for the Vessalius Dukedom. In reality, Ada is a genuinely sweet-natured girl. She does not seem to allow herself to be personally affected by her social status either way personality-wise. Rather, Ada is an honest person whose face and eyes easily portray what she’s feeling. She is also rather intelligent; enough so to have earned the status of prefect in the private school which she attends. But it isn’t simply book smarts. Ada is also a very perceptive and empathetic young woman, who isn’t so easily fooled. The people around her mean a great deal to her and she worries a great deal for those who are closest to her. For those closest to her, she is willing to risk her life fighting for them even if she lacks the skills and abilities to do so. Even so, if there is a way to avoid fighting, that would be her preference, being a rather peaceful hearted young woman. That makes her also a rather ideal mediator when tensions arise.

Even when things are darkest, there is always a spark of optimism that remains with Ada, that drives her to try her best to do whatever she can in that situation to help. And while she is a fairly obedient young girl in most things, she continues to see the man she loves despite her family not accepting him, proving that she also knows when to stand firm in her own beliefs and for the sake of the things she truly wants. She doesn’t act blindly, but rather, wishes to act in the best interest of the people she cares about, as well as her own best interests, although she seems to often put other’s interests before her own.

She can be easily flustered by certain things such as close contact, flattering speech, and affectionate words or actions. But she is also a fairly affectionate young woman who sees and accepts both the good and bad in people. While she is rather perceptive of other people, she isn’t always right and can jump to conclusions when excited. However, she isn’t the type to judge people on appearances, first impressions, or the words of others. She looks at people closely and judges them for herself, looking deeper than the surface. While Ada tries to always see the best in others, she isn’t blind to people’s faults either, but rather finds ways of accepting those things.

But it is because her image is so important that her relationship with the man she loves and wishes to always be beside is not recognized and why she must hide her love for the occult. Her hobby of studying and immersing herself into the occult is a secret she shares with almost no one and her things are confined to the basement of the secondary mansion her Uncle gave to her; out of the eyes of the public. While it seems she receives things from her classmates on the subject, it seems to be something she hides quite diligently from most. She doesn’t even tell the man she’s dating despite having thought he was also interested in such things, until provoked to show her ‘true self’. And when he reacts badly at first, you can see that there is a part of her that fears her true self being rejected by the people she cares about, which could explain why she’s so reluctant to share it with others. But even so, it’s shown that she had always had some interest in dark, unusual stories even when she was a little kid, listening to stories that were normally meant to frighten children into behaving.

Because she worries for the people closes to her so and also because she lost her brother at such a young age, Ada doesn’t want to be alone. When her brother disappeared into the Abyss, even though she was young, she too did what she could to try and help find a way to save him. And when he returned the same age he had been when he left and she had grown older than him, she feared that he wouldn’t recognize her, or that he might reject her.

So despite being so strong willed, Ada is actually rather fearful of not being accepted. That and the fear of losing those close to her are probably her two greatest fears. While on the other hand, danger itself doesn’t scare her nearly as much, despite her lack of strength or fighting ability.

PROJECTED CLASS: Mage. Without question, Ada is meant to wield magic. Her love for the occult will drive Ada to choose magic first. In her mind, nothing else comes close. It will be a class that she will love and have great interest in and a strong desire to work at it and grow more proficient with it. It also suits her for the fact that she’s not strong physically, although her personality and canon point would drive her to want to choose something she can fight with. It’s likely she’ll choose Shaman when given the next choice.

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: threads

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE The desk was covered with an assortment of books, all gathered single-handedly by the eager looking girl preparing to sit herself down behind the desk. At a glance, there appeared to be no less than ten books of varying sizes and titles at her disposal, but Ada knew the real number was twelve. In her mind, she was… ‘starting small’. But in all, she had already come a far way from the dazed and confused girl who landed herself in Castle Dyspros, blankly staring at the ornate doors and tracing the pattern with one finger as she tried to piece things together.

In the time between when she had gathered all the details and now, Ada had made a number of decisions. The first was that she wanted to be here for the time being. And the second most notable was that she wanted to join one of the guilds in order to strengthen herself. With her last memories before she came here on repeat in her mind, she knew that she wanted to do something… to change in some way so that she could go back just a little more able and a little less powerless. That was the wish she sought to see granted.

Simple it may be, but it was as important as anything to her. And it was as much for the people she loved as it was for herself.

And when she had the choice - she couldn’t say no the prospect of the Mages’ Guild. The moment she heard of it, her heart was decided on it. The giddy way she paged through the books on magic attested to her great enthusiasm. “I’ve studied this kind of thing for so long… but who ever imagined I’d really be doing this?” She giggles happily and turns the page once more, eyes scanning over the page with wonder. “Vincent would be so shocked if he knew.” Again, she giggles, but this time because she can almost imagine the look on his face.

Too bad she’s blind to just how much horror would be (poorly) hidden behind his surprise.

NAME: Iceland
CANON: Axis Powers Hetalia
CANON POINT: RIGHT NOW, May 4th 2013.
AGE: Technically 1,138 - just shy of 1,139. However, he is physically about 17.
APPEARANCE: Full body | Glamour shot | Boy band photo op

PERSONALITY:
Given his name, one might expect Iceland to be a bit cold in terms of personality. Upon first impression, that may be correct, but underneath Iceland's frosty exterior is a hot-blooded individual. Perhaps this goes along with the fact that he's a chilly island hanging out near the arctic circle, but happens to be made out of volcanoes. Either way, yes, he's typically apathetic towards people he isn't intimately familiar with. This is a facade of sorts, because really, Iceland is shy and quiet, and it's easier to seem cool and not embarrass himself if he keeps everyone at an emotional distance. He is not anti-social, however, and while it isn't in his nature to talk much, that doesn't mean that he dislikes people as a whole, or socializing. He just doesn't know how to do it properly beyond simple, topical conversations. He grew up with practically no friends, and given his introverted nature, he's not exactly equipped to take on deep and meaningful conversations upon first meeting with someone. So, the side of Iceland that most people see is one of supposed stoicism and lineface, although he's much more sensitive and insecure than he lets on. After centuries of practice, he's gotten good at hiding that. For the most part.

His hot-blooded nature comes out in one of two ways: Getting flustered or throwing a temper tantrum. Once someone gets past his cool facade and under his skin, it's quite obvious that Iceland isn't as emotionless as he acts. Expressions don't come easy to him, with the exception of embarrassment and anger. The latter is a little more random, sort of like a volcano; it can erupt at any time, without warning. Not without provocation, although the strangest things can set Iceland off and cause him to get upset. He reacts strongly to shocking and/or unpleasant situations, and sometimes ends up a bit moody when the situation doesn't play out in his favor. He does his best to contain those kinds of reactions so he doesn't lose face and become unliked, but he has no qualms about outwardly showing his annoyance. It's when his buttons get continually pressed that he tends to lose his grip and lets those negative emotions out. He gets flustered and fussy at times when his insecurities are brought up. As a teenager, he does have concerns over things that might be directly irrelevant in pretty much any situation - such as his body image and lack of muscles - but that doesn't make him any less touchy about the subject. When forced to strip down for the sake of the world's safety during the Christmas 2010 event, Iceland initially refused and was later traumatized by the event. He was that against showing off his skinny self, and made it clear that he was very upset that he had to. He was also a bit self-depreciating in the process, again, because he's that insecure about his appearance.

Of course, while the duality of his ice/fire temperament suits him well, there's more to Iceland than geography puns. Really. Despite being well over one thousand years old, he physically appears to be teenager, and acts as such on most occasions. He tries hard to appear mature in front of his peers, but since he isn't as grown up as he thinks he is, he easily slips back into childish behavior. Most notably the aforementioned temper tantrums. Funnily enough, the harder he tries to convince others that he's a mature adult, the more childish he tends to act. He is a little naive about the workings of the world, due to growing up in a rather isolated environment. He's fascinated by trends and technology, and does his best to keep up. He wants to be popular and liked, and keeping in stride with society's advances is a way for him to relate to others. Look at how cool and caught up he is! After his spectacular economic collapse and the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, Iceland made a point of monologuing (he seems to have a habit of talking to himself when he's feeling lonely) about how he needs to become popular once again. He doesn't need to be in the spotlight and the center of attention - in fact, that much attention would make him uncomfortable - but he wants others to generally have a good impression of him, even though he'll say otherwise.

He's very proud of his independence and the progress he's made from being the poor, backwater country he was for the majority of his life. Rather, a poor, backwater territory. He was very dependent on his brothers, Norway and Denmark, for centuries, and this is sort of ingrained in him whether he likes it or not. He tries to distance himself from them, but they're family; they're close. Iceland will never admit it, but he does have a soft spot for the both of them. In Hetalia Fantasia 2, he got lost after being separated from the two of them, and he couldn't help but sound upset when they eventually were reunited and he stated, "I thought you guys ditched me." This also goes hand in hand with the fact that Iceland doesn't like to be alone unless he chooses to be, but really plays into Iceland's subconscious belief that his brothers will always be there to depend on if he needs them. It's a habit to rely on them, he can't help it, but he consciously fights that because he wants to stand on his own two feet and do his own thing, and be more than their little brother (although they still see him as such; most notably Norway, as he's Iceland's biological older brother). While normally unwilling to yield to the requests of others if he doesn't want to, Iceland will do what Norway and Denmark tell him to do as long as they're persistent enough about it. Iceland is wary of strangers and people he doesn't know too well, so they typically need to present good reasoning to convince Iceland to do something. Norway and Denmark don't. They could have the flimsiest excuse for wanting Iceland to do something for them and because they're his brothers and he's quite fond of them, he'll eventually cave. Only for them. Although this could possibly carry over for friends he bonds with, given the opportunity for that to happen.

It doesn't take much to get Iceland to like someone. Underneath the layers of geography puns and moody teenage behavior, Iceland is really a nice guy. He doesn't like seeing people upset or unhappy. In the Hetalia Fantasia 2 drama CD, Italy gets a little down when Iceland bluntly rejects his offer for of food. When Iceland sees this, he changes his mind and states, “because you're offering it to me, I'll accept it,” despite saying he wasn't hungry mere moments before. He's straightforward and honest, but he never says or does anything with the intention of harming others in any way or spreading ill will. He's just a little awkward, but ultimately wants to be accepted by others.

PROJECTED CLASS: Scholar.
Iceland is well known for loving books and churning out a ton of authors (and a Nobel laureate!), as well as being a peaceful country with no military. While he's no stranger to battle, in a sense - he was born in the midst of the Viking Age, after all - he has never been much of a fighter; the only wars he's ever partaken in were about fish, and involved boats bumping each other and men screaming. There were no weapons and no one died. That being said, in the second Hetalia drama CD, which took place in an MMORPG, Iceland never fought anything, and when confronted with a monster, basically confessed that he didn't know how to beat it. It would not seem wise to trust Iceland with a weapon in any capacity. However, he would be beneficial as a support class, since he likes being an intellectual snob. Bring on the books!!

OTHER: Iceland has a funny accent.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE
Finally, it was completed.

After several months of badgering higher classed explorers to take him along, Iceland finally compiled the first volume of his Bestiary, complete with illustrations. It detailed each beast's weakness, strengths, and area where they liked to lurk, method of attack and defense (if applicable), in addition to the general overview. It was well worth the work.

Or it would be, if anyone would buy it.

Maybe it was poor marketing, poor advertising - Iceland was certainly a bit too shy to push his book on others. He'd set up a little spot near the Scholar's guild and try to sell of his written knowledge, but it was hard to attract a consumer base. Either people knew about the monsters already, or they had no use in such knowledge. He sighed heavily whenever people gave him a glance and just walked on by, ignoring him. Was it really not that interesting?

No. It needed a better sales pitch.

Although it's not in Iceland's nature to be very outgoing, he knows how to market his stuff to get money for it. That's the whole point of the tourist industry, and his is great! So, after formulating a basic pitch, he finally works up the nerve to get someone's attention.

"Hey, hey-- come here. Um, look. You want to know more about the world, right? Because-- "

He didn't get far in his pitch. The apathetic young woman brazenly grabbed a display book, flipped through it, set it down, and left, all within the span of 30 seconds. Iceland sighed, and sulked, although he tried not to make it obvious, because no one will want to buy books from a sad sack.

Although, by pure chance, another young woman walked by and stopped to ask if he was okay.

"Yes." Iceland responded, trying to straighten his posture and look more confident. It was a little difficult. The woman didn't comment on his state of being and instead went for the display book, asking if he had written it.

"Yes." Iceland responded again, although he started to blush. Maybe it was a trained response by now, as everyone else had walked away without much interest, and it was getting to be embarrassing.

The woman asked for the price. Iceland could only mumble.

Despite... most likely not hearing Iceland at all, the woman began to check her satchel for money. She had none, and quickly apologized, looking embarrassed herself. Iceland is able to force out an, "It's okay," while he looks down at his knees. The woman apologizing again, and, as Iceland hesitantly looks up at her, she smiles and says she'll be back tomorrow instead. She waves as she leaves. Iceland returns the gesture too late, when she's turned away and lost in the crowd.

Iceland puts his hand down, feeling like a dope. But after hesitating and fidgeting, wondering what he's supposed to do - he gathers his things, and goes inside.

He'll set up again tomorrow.

NAME: Latvia ‣ Raivis Galante
CANON: Axis Powers Hetalia
CANON POINT: May 2013
AGE: 600+ (existance) ‣ 15 (appearance)
APPEARANCE: click

PERSONALITY: Outwardly Latvia appears to be a quiet and submissive boy and he tends to get characterised as a cry-baby. While it is true that he’s extremely timid it isn’t his defining character trait. He prefers to be a pacifist, however even when he has declared neutrality in the past he often gets dragged into conflicts. To strangers and friends alike Latvia is extremely polite, if his mannerisms becomes more casual it’s a good indicator that he’s come to trust someone. Due to unfortunate events in his past he’s found it harder and harder to trust people. If Latvia is willing to bring down the barriers he’s set up around himself he becomes a loyal companion, concerned about people’s wellbeing even if he finds them difficult at times.

Latvia has expressed a want for siblings before, a subject that Lithuania and Estonia seem quick to avoid. Despite his withdrawn nature he has an intense want for friends or sibling like figures that he can rely on to treat him kindly. For a long time Russia has been a huge influence on Latvia’s life, but despite trying again and again he’s failed to cut ties with him. Because of that influence he’s felt unable to make friends with others and he gets excited when he has the opportunity to fraternise with those outside of Russia’s social circle. Latvia hasn’t exactly had the most stable relationships with people, which only adds to the desire for security and trust. While he wants to rely on others, naturally he doesn’t want to be taken advantage of and understands that he needs to do his best to keep a balance.

Being so small and pushed around so easily doesn’t come without its consequences and Latvia has somewhat of an inferiority complex. When he attempts to act as a mentor to Sealand he ends up dwelling over his own hardships and feels upset when he’s the one that needs to be comforted in the end. He may be proud of his culture and his people but on a personal level he feels overshadowed by those around him.

Even to those he may not particularly like he’s eager to prove his worth and usefulness. While his youthful face occasionally serves as a mask for the maturity he’s acquired over centuries of existence when he reverts to a childish state it only emphasizes it more so. Latvia is frequently plagued by tremors, ranging from a slight tremble to a strong quaking. The shaking tends to manifest itself with intense emotions such as excitement or anger but most notably with fear. He’s fairly twitchy and skittish and a lot of things in day to day life cause him anxiety. However, no matter how much he might shake and cry he never lets his fears paralyze him. When pushed into a corner

Latvia will fight back with all his strength for what he believes in and at his heart he’s incredibly courageous.
Being courageous isn’t the same as being noble though and Latvia has a reputation for being quite blunt. He’s the type to say things and do things the instant the idea enters his head which often leads him to say or do things that get him into trouble. It’s never his intention and half the time it is pure bad luck but Latvia frequently gets the short end of the stick. Russia often likes to bully him and he’s been crushed by a falling ceiling and almost eaten by animals before. Even actions with good intentions can wind up biting him in the ankles. He may not be physically strong but he can take a beating and still stay standing. It takes a lot to keep him down, that kind of scrappiness only adds to his hidden strengths.

As mentioned previously, when backed into a corner Latvia is capable of great feats. It doesn’t always end in fighting though. He’s been pushed to manufacture things he’s never made and the end results have been well crafted. He absolutely hates that kind of motivation though as it stresses him needlessly. On the other hand, having been pushed so hard in the past Latvia has become rather lazy in modern times, only working when it’s convenient for him and wanting to rely more and more on others to do the work for him. If his assistance is needed, he can be encouraged by gentle words and kind promises.

PROJECTED CLASS: Academic ‣ Scholar
Latvia tries to avoid conflict if he can help it. Even though he is more than willing to fight if needed the initial atmosphere upon arriving probably won’t make him feel threatened enough to immediately pick up a sword. From the desktop mascots Latvia displays a vast knowledge of various cultures and histories of other countries and it would not be surprising if he becomes interested in the culture and history of Reis Alureila as well.

Yuri Lowell | Tales of Vesperia | Reserved

[personal profile] ownmorals 2013-05-04 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
IC
NAME: Yuri Lowell
CANON: Tales of Vesperia
CANON POINT: After breaking out of jail in Part 1.
AGE: 21
APPEARANCE: Imgur
PERSONALITY: At first glance, you may see Yuri as something simple; a simple basic person on the outside. But actually, he's quite comparable to a maze. A maze that seems like you could finish it in 4 minutes flat, but then you find yourself trying to figure it out for a good 3 hours.

Yuri's true intentions and motivations are always up in the air and hidden behind lies, deception, and coldness. This is the "Yuri" he shows off to mostly everyone, in attempts to avoid doing things he'd rather let someone else do, or to get himself out of things he doesn't want to be in. This "Yuri" also shows his own sense of humor, which is shown by teasing and snark. He'll tease just to see what kind of reaction he'll get from you, and depending on what that might be, he'll either keep going with it from time to time and laugh at you, or ease up on it--he knows when to stop and doesn't take it so far. If you hang around this "Yuri" long enough, you'll find yourself either pulling your hair out over how simple and outspoken he puts out to be, or noticing how easy he truly is read. He's honestly an open book, just that it's a book you have to get used to reading.

Lazy as he is, he's also a quite the show-off. And there's no point in showing off something if it's not all that impressive. Yuri is fit and active, exercising as a hobby more than a chore. His Bodhi Blastia helps his fighting skills during battles, allowing him to use Artes that he didn't normally learn through the knights. Although he's good with a sword, he CAN fight without it, as shown in some of his Artes, like Brutal Fang (Mash that attack button for a flurry of fists to the face!). He can hold his own in a fight, even if the power difference is highly noticeable.

Bringing it up, Yuri also has a good idea of battle techniques. If Yuri sees an example of whatever it may be, chances are he'll pick up on the move if it proves of interest to him. In a matter of seconds. It's how he learned Fatal Strike from Clint, without him even knowing he taught it to him. He sometimes doesn't even need to see it, give him some notes on the arte, and he'll learn it through trial and error, or just Wild Mass Guessing. (See: Tiger Blade.)

He picks up information easily and is also capable of noticing things others don't.

With this "Yuri," anything that requires way too much thinking, he doesn't do unless he really has to. Although I say "this Yuri," this is probably where his true being is actually at. He doesn't like thinking too hard about things, and can't stand looking at something too long. He's not exactly book-smart either, as said by he himself during a sidequest with Giganto Monsters. If he doesn't completely understand something, he'll ask about it.

As strange and cynical as he is, there's another side to our current "Yuri" that may catch you off--he's oddly optimistic. Rarely. Given the situation and if his friends/people close to him are feeling down, he won't mind giving a pep talk or two. He's not full of happy and cheer, but he'll give you the good side of things in attempt to cheer you up. Of course, this is if he likes you enough.

It is also really hard to break this guy. At the most, you can anger him, but it'd be a hundred years before you could break him. He doesn't let most things try to drag him down, and instead pushes forward. What's done is done, and we have to move on. He also can be pretty happy during the most darkest things, as Duke even comments on that during the final moments before the final battle begins.

Although he may do things like that, this actually leads into another part of Yuri to delve into. This "Yuri" has a large self-esteem issue, placing others as far more important than he himself. This is the "Yuri" that you find beyond the slacker he plays, and isn't shown to much of anyone. He can't take a compliment without completely handwaving it, and he doesn't like it when people are worried about him. He thinks that there's bigger and better things to worry about than someone like him, but despite all this, he's actually quite the worry-wart himself. Of course, he won't show it, but if he were to ask if you're okay, he probably actually means "Oh my God, are you alright don't do that again god you're an idiot let me find some bandages for you are you hungry here I'll carry you you didn't break anything did you"

Funny enough, taking our Yuris into account, there's one more hidden "Yuri" that isn't ever seen to light unless under heavy circumstances. This is the dark side of himself, or rather the "take matters into your own hands, may it be just or unjust" side of him.

There's no bad intentions. Yuri believes that the corruption and power of the royalty/empire has gone on long enough. He has decided to take matters into his own hands if need be. He's seen what laws can do, and how people who're evil can just get away with being evil. They can do whatever they want--punish the innocent knowing that they can't do much to them. Yuri absolutely despises that, driving to "dirty his hands" by killing the evil that the law doesn't deal with. Although he knows that he's becoming what he hates the most, becoming a criminal in the eyes of everyone is something he doesn't care about. The only thing he does care about are the people. If someone can be saved by his actions, he'll be okay with whatever happens to him afterwards. You could say he has a strong sense of justice, even if it is a sort of an "out of whack" kind of justice.

"How would you go about punishing the villains that the law can't touch?"

As weird and dorky as this guy is, we can't forget that he's bone and flesh. Although he's not going down without a fight, you CAN indeed take this guy down. He's no monster or beast. As a human, taking him on under certain conditions around him do matter, as shown after the Outbreaker fight in the desert; the whole cast couldn't stand from it due to heat and drought, including Yuri himself.

All considering, he really, really cares about the people around him. The happy face he puts up is a huge facade, and you rarely ever know if Yuri is truly upset or not. He just doesn't want anyone worrying about him when there's bigger problems to be worried about, and usually, he doesn't need anyone worrying. He can solve his own problems himself he thinks, and if he can't, he'll keep it to himself. Or maybe even do both (See: I killed Ragou and Cumore and none of you have to hear about it.). Man's got a lot of pride, and he'd be damned to let go of it easily.

" A berry tart keeps me whistling no matter how hard the going. "
Gaius can fit the archetypal thief persona that is known and loved throughout RPGs of decades past. He's got a silver tongue that can dance with the roughest of the bunch in a conversation and the looks to match. Like the rest of the colorful cast in Fire Emblem: Awakening, however, he has something unique about him. At the bottom of it all, he's a simple thief who loves to put his hands to "good" use. All thieves require a price to do the job asked, with said price rising over factors such as risk and priority. He'll be more than happy to take gold, but it would be only to find the nearest candy shop and stock himself up to the brim with the sweetest things imaginable.

His sweet tooth is unquenchable and he has no shame in admitting to that. Every member of the Shepherds knows of his addiction, and most supports have his diet included in some ways as a form of comic relief. In the early beginnings of his and Panne's supports, she has to assist him getting down a tree he climbed for a mere pot of honey as she's of the more-agile taguel race. Instead of never doing such an embarrassing act again, he returns to a much taller tree that bears a fruit supposedly sweeter than candy only for her to assist him once again.

Without sweets in his blood, he feels like he's not at the top of his game. He says that "any moment I'm not eating sugar is an emergency" in response to the various treats hidden in his body as supposed rations. Towards more stoic members like Tharja and Panne, he refers to a piece of candy to boost their mood only to be denied left and right. Normally, he's a cool-headed individual who can compose a thought rationally and have a response ready at hand. Throw the topic of confections into the mix and his obsession will quickly come to surface.

That isn't to say that he's only good for making quirky one-liners about his favorite foods. He has a set of morals that he holds tightly around him and he never defers from it even when on the job. In the chapter that he's recruited, he is originally an enemy who has to be spoken to as Chrom in order to convert. He's very easy to convince as he is led to believe that it was supposed to be a simple robbery from the castle's treasury. Upon the revelation that they are there to assassinate Chrom's sister Emmeryn, he refuses to cooperate and defects to the Shepherds. It didn't hurt that Chrom uses Lissa's (his other sister) hand-made candy as a form of payment if he decides to help.

Another example of his ethical standing is with Maribelle in a support that delves into the past. Under the threat that his employers would kill Maribelle if he didn't comply, he had to break into her family's treasury and was caught doing so. He expresses guilt in admitting that he said it was her own father trying to steal, leading to a close call that almost had him dying by the hands of the magistrate. Gaius is once again forced to frame Maribelle's father. After a battle of conscience even if his hand was forced, he sent a letter to the court and saved her father's life. His desire to keep a then-unknown Maribelle from being killed shows that he has a big heart, and the fact that he still feels guilty for being pulled along in such a scheme brings a contradiction from the normal thief's mindset.

He's also a pretty big tease. Almost everyone he has a support with is given a nickname no matter the gender. Chrom is known as Blue, Panne as Whiskers, Tharja as Sunshine-- the list goes on. It usually has something to do with their physical appearance, though he can also be ironic with people like the brooding Tharja. Most find his tendency to give them a new name insufferable and he is often reprimanded. No matter how much they may disagree, he'll continue slinging around the new name as if that's how he's always known them. Occasionally, their real name will pop out of his mouth but it's not determined when and why it does. Even during serious moments like his discussion with Maribelle, he'll nonchalantly call her Twinkles throughout the entire talk.

Gaius makes use of his hands in more ways than picking locks and stealing treasure underneath the noses of the enemy. He is very into the idea of using his hands to make what he wants personally, which is probably why he picks up so many hobbies and exhibits skill upon putting them to use. A natural card dealer probably makes sense, but he's even been prompted into becoming a jeweler by how good he is at crafting things like rings. As a seasoned traveler of Ylisse, it makes sense that he's learned various arts and tricks. An expert in sleight of hand, he can make a card seemingly vanish from one hand to another and be accused of knowing teleportation. His own collection of candy is mostly hand-made by himself, revealing to be quite the talented baker. And if that's enough, he's shown enough prowess in sewing to fix the roughest of tears in people's attires.

He can also be a bit of a flirt. Gaius is a thief, after all! But he's not flirtatious in a way that most would imagine. He'd much rather be coy and laid back in his back-and-forth's with others of the fairer sex. Compliments get him showing all teeth, and he's always sure to take them in stride, never bashful or modest enough to reject or decline.
PROJECTED CLASS:
THIEF → GAMBLER.
It's fairly obvious that he'd make a good fit in Death's Toll. His starting class in actual canon is a thief, and while he's handy with a sword, he'd much rather be sneaking around and making some money than racking up bodies. He and the guildmaster, Firuze, seem to have a few similar personality traits as well. The question is on if Gaius is more into breasts or backsides!

IC
NAME: Rion Lyon
AGE: 16
APPEARANCE: here!
WORLD INFO: Rion's world is one much like the modern-day world, with a fairly notable exception. You know how there are legends about people who supposedly used magic to do things - like Zhuge Liang summoning the winds at the Battle of Red Cliff. Where Rion comes from, these sort of things are understood that they exist and definitely happened. We know that that didn't happen in our world, but in his... magic is not terribly well understood, but it is a known thing that exists. There are people even today that cast magic, though it's more of the sort of an "innate power" or something like that; each person who can cast magic generally has a particular way they channel magical force. For example, someone who has the ability to throw fireballs; that's what they do. They might find ways to modify that, but they're always gonna be a fireball-thrower. It's extremely rare (though not impossible) for someone to be born who can manipulate magical energy on a more base level and get it to do what they want. Such people have existed, like Merlin or Kongming, but those people are rare even among those who can use magic.

However, ever since the mid-late 40s, there's been an unexpected surge in the amount of people who can manipulate magic. It's not exactly what you'd call "common", but it's about as frequent as knowing someone who's naturally left-handed. Of course, whether you'd know they were maguses or not depends on their powers and how they use them. You're unlikely to know, for example, that someone has the ability to manipulate cold until they use it, right? And a lot of the children born who've developed magical ability tend to be fairly bad at it; they can do minor things, but it's nothing like the heroes of old.

Of course, things that frequently can't be explained by science, there's always people who would also blame magic on it, especially since it's a Known Thing rather than just something you hear a crazy homeless person ranting about. JFK assassination? Bullet must have been curved with some sort of telekinetic power. This is a strange explanation, of course, but not one that you could conclusively rule out, and it makes dealing with crime a lot more difficult. There's a bit of a stigma against people who do have magical powers, and most governments these days (after the surge in people who had this ability) encourage people to register themselves with the government once their powers are known... for understandable reasons. Even minor powers can be used in creative ways to commit crime and things like that, and the rare people who actually have a Real power could be far worse.

This is the world - a world mostly like ours, but with the backdrop of magic, of a "force" that people haven't been able to properly explain yet, mixed in - that Rion comes from.
BACKGROUND: Rion is a mute, shy wisp of a boy grown up into this world where magic is an Assumed Thing. He doesn't like to talk about his early childhood, and can't really explain anything before about the age of four. It's at that age that he was adopted by his mother, Katherine, and raised by her as her own - people don't talk about what happened beforehand, but he's pretty sure that whatever his living situation was prior to that was pretty bad, and he doesn't have that much interest in finding out what it was that happened.

There's not too much to say about Rion's home life other than that he was left home alone a lot as a child. His adoptive mother wasn't a bad mother, but she was a single mother working to take care of both herself and her son, and wasn't particularly great with money. As a result, while Rion does care a lot about his mother and she's by no means abusive or anything, he has done quite a bit of of raising himself in addition to what his mother has done for him. This has made him a pretty capable young man capable of cooking and cleaning well, of taking care of himself and finding things to do, but it's also made him a little bit anxious and worried too. He hasn't had the same sort of social interaction with people that other people his age have, and it's made him ... well, awklward.

His time in school wasn't the greatest, either. It was a combination of things that made him an easy target to be picked on, not one thing; his muteness, his general shyness, his slender, tiny build all made him a target for bullies, and Rion's natural defense of "do nothing about it" made it pretty easy to pick on him. He's never been good at standing up for himself or dealing with awkward situations, and the years of being picked on without any intervention have led up to his current point; a point where he gives up frequently rather than fights for himself, where part of him has just sort of internalized the abuse. The bullying only got worse over the years, especially since puberty; he didn't experience the same growth spurt everyone else normally does about that time, and lagged behind more and more in terms of physical growth, which made it easier to pick on him, and a kid who can't (or won't) fight back and who can't yell or have people really catch the shit in the act is a kid who makes an easy target. He's used to it, now, which isn't necessarily a good thing, but he expects it from people he doesn't know, especially people who are larger and scarier than he is.

Despite the abuse he's dealt with, he's not a broken kid. He has coping mechanisms to deal with things. Between the being picked on and being smacked around at school, he's found time to study quite a bit (mostly because it's what he does to keep himself focused, that once he gets to [i]college[/i] he can get away from all of this and make a new life, and new place for himself), and with taking care of himself, as said above, he's very capable of functioning on his own. He's also found less than healthy escapes; Rion is the kind of kid who spends just as much time buried in novels or video games or the internet, because it's places like that where it doesn't matter that he's a tiny kid who can't talk; there he's just what he thinks, and what he thinks and what he is, he feels, need to be as separate as possible.
PERSONALITY: Rion, upon first conversation with him, doesn't seem like there's that much to him. This is because the first conversation with him is likely to be incredibly awkward; first off, he's mute, so of course he can't respond verbally. But he's also extremely self-conscious about it and sort of expects the worst of people, which makes him more likely to shut out negative conversation almost immediately, and he feels (unreasonably) guilty, like it's such a pain to talk to him that maybe people should do something else. (This tends to be reflected less in text speak, where there's no physical limitations for him.)

This is even more evident when he's dealing with people who he considers peers, especially those who have serious size advantages on him (who are very significantly stronger and/or larger); it sort of freaks him out because he's just under the assumption at this point that they won't like him, which causes him to act like they won't like him and be significantly more paranoid, which makes him not very fun to be around, which results in this self-fulfilling prophecy. It's not a very healthy way of dealing with things for Rion. He's much more able to deal with people who are older than him, especially those who come off as "motherly" (for lack of a better word), or authority figures; he's much more likely to open up faster to people who sort of come off as very "safe" like that.

He also doesn't seem to do much in his own defense. He comes across as a very weak person - which is true, physically, because he is a tiny wisp of a thing, but also mentally, because he just doesn't do anything in response to the bullying. He's reported it exactly once, but beyond that he just takes it. He takes the blows, he takes the gum in the hair (which he carefully removes rather than cutting it, because his hair is one of the few things he likes about himself), he takes the names, and just... deals with it. He doesn't fight back; he simply endures, like Rocky, except without any inclination of ever throwing a punch back. It's not something to be triumphed over; it's something that's survived. And it makes him come across as weak, because maybe something would have been done if he had fought back, but he's afraid; afraid of the consequences for him, afraid that things could get worse. And it's what he tends to do in most stressful situations; he just shuts down and does nothing.

There's more to him than just "a kid who can't deal with the shit life has given him", though. There is stuff beyond the shutting down, beyond the self-loathing and self-hate, beyond the anxiety at dealing with people his age. He's eager to learn new things and practice skills; as an example, one of the things Rion uses to escape is music, specifically playing guitar. He's an extremely talented guitarist just because he's decided that he WILL get better at it, no matter what, and he's put a ton of work and research into making sure that he can do that very well. Once he decides on something, it's very difficult to get him sidetracked from it, and he has both the knowledge and the talent (normally) to make such things happen.

He also, strangely enough, has a bit of a hero complex. It's not exactly the most healthy thing, but it's true; he dreams of being a hero, of being worth something to other people even if he's not worth something to himself. He's the kind of person who would dive on a bomb to make sure that other people weren't hurt. There are a couple reasons for this; one is the aformentioned poor self-esteem, where he genuinely does think that he's worth less than other people, so it's okay if he dies. But even if he were to get over that, he is the kind of person who genuinely wants to do the right thing, who wants to save people. He wants to be the hero, more than anything else, and if it takes getting hurt on someone else's behalf to do that, that's fine; they matter more than he does anyway.

When he does open up to people, though, and when he does feel comfortable around them, he's a very considerate and caring person. He's the kind of person who would come over with only the barest (or no) prompting to take care of someone when they're sick, or take notes for them when they're not in class. He's the kind of person who, when he thinks people genuinely care about him, will go out of his way to make sure that they're happy, even possibly at the expense of his own happiness. This is, of course, a double-edged sword, because it makes Rion easy to manipulate by playing to his need for attention, for wanting someone to care about him and wanting someone to care about - but it is sometimes a good quality of his anyway.

If you needed a short version of Rion - he's a sweet kid with a whole lot of issues that he has to get through, but once he's a friend he's a loyal and dependable friend who will probably do dumb shit on your behalf if it needs to be done!

PROJECTED CLASS Paladin. Rion wants to play the hero more than anything else, and the fact that the Paladin is a physical class that he doesn't seem to be very well suited for doesn't really change that it fits his ideal of "what a hero" is; they heal, they take hits for people, they cast holy magic. They're everything he wants to be, and he will put in all sorts of effort to it.
OTHER Rion is a mute character! I will note here that the cause of his mutism is psychological rather than physiological, and during the course of the game it's something he may get over!

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE here are some threads!
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE Rion stared up at the sign above the guildhall he's chosen, taking a deep breath. "Seven Titans", it said, and it didn't look quite like what he would have expected. Years of video games and RPGs and things like that have taught him that guildhalls are supposed to look spectacular and impressive, and this... looked stoic. Spartan. Grim, actually. But he's been looking around, trying to find out what he could from other people (mostly by overhearing their conversations; it was difficult for him to ask someone, though he'd found one or two people who he felt like he could "talk" to).

He knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to be a hero. He wanted to be the kind of person who charged in with a sword, protected other people, healed them. Saved them. That's what being a hero was all about, wasn't it? His vision slipped down from the sign, now looking over himself with a moment of self-doubt. But look at you, Rion, he told himself. 5'0". Arms like twigs. Legs like slightly larger, but still unimpressive twigs. He'd be laughed out of there, wouldn't he? Told to go to the Twinwinds, or the Spider and Herb, where someone built like him could be more "useful".

And maybe he would be more "useful" there. But this was his only chance to do what he'd wanted. He didn't want to be blasting people with magic. He didn't want to be in the back, playing guitar for people and making them better at things, even if it would have been something he'd already be good at it. This was his chance. If he wasn't going to be at home, and if he had the chance to do what he'd imagined, what he'd fantasized about while playing games on his PlayBox or on his computer - being a hero, being able to save people and fight monsters?

He couldn't let that stop him. Maybe they'd make fun of him. Maybe he'd never make it that far. Maybe he'd be terrible at it...

But he had to try, didn't he?

With a swallow to try and push back that self-doubt, he made his way past the door and inside.

IC
NAME: Tieria Erde
CANON: Mobile Suits Gundam 00
CANON POINT: End of Season 2
AGE: Unknown. His actual age has never been mentioned in canon.
APPEARANCE: HERE
PERSONALITY:
Beneath the stern and strict personality of Tieria Erde is a man of duty, whose compassion for humanity set him towards the path of guiding humanity towards Innovation and the dialogue to come.

Prior to that, he was an extremely negative person who considered humans tolerable only for the sake of completing the reason of his creation. Not only was he stoic, strict, distrusting and self-righteous, he was single-minded in completing Veda-assigned missions. Because he was granted the ability to connect to Veda and given the right to the Trial System on top of being a Gundam Meister, he was extremely proud to the point that he would follow every order meticulously and see to them being completed perfectly. He did so to the point that he would put aside the feelings and well-being of his fellow Gundam Meisters. He would not hesitate to reprimand or threaten to shoot them, especially if their actions would compromise Celestial Being's objectives.

To him, Veda was an absolute existence whose orders must be completed without question. His narrow mindedness and his unwillingness to understand others made it extremely difficult for anyone to approach him. It didn't help that he had a tendency to lash out at others whenever he became angry with his own inadequacy. His relationship with his fellow Gundam Meisters and Celestial Being's crew was naturally only a scratch on the surface of an extremely hard rock.

When he was shut out of Veda, his conviction was shaken and he doubted his own raison d'être. He was weak and vulnerable despite encouragement from his teammates. His stubbornness eventually harmed Lockon Stratos/Neil Dylandy when the older Meister took a hit meant for him and injured his dominant eye, the one he used to aim while sniping. Tieria was overcome with guilt and lost his confidence as a Gundam Meister but Neil never blamed him for that accident. If it wasn't for his guidance and support, Tieria would not have found his footing again. When Tieria finally learned to accept making mistakes and to protect his fellow Meister, Neil's quest for personal vengeance caused his death. He was devastated by Neil's death, so much that he was willing to lash out and pushed the blame onto Setsuna F. Seiei.

When they lost their first armed intervention, Tieria was resigned to his fate and was willing to die in order to go to where Neil is. But he survived and, despite everything, he was able to stand again with the support of his comrades. He wanted to build the world Neil would have wanted like the rest of them, a peaceful world without war. Neil's death gave him a new purpose in life, to fight for and defend his comrades.

It was then that he learned to gradually accept his comrades and respect them and their views. Setsuna's unwavering will as a Gundam Meister, Neil's kindness and selflessness, as well as Sumeragi's will to atone for her mistakes became the foundation of Tieria's search for his own humanity. Through them, he found the will to live on and fight for the future. He learned to care for and trust his comrades, making him a more likable and approachable person with the crew. Somewhere in between, he developed a rather wry sense of humour. He also grew to trust Setsuna and stopped blaming him for Neil's death.

However, despite everything, he was an Innovade and a part of him was still loyal to Veda and Aeolia's ideal. He was briefly tempted when he received an offer to return to the 'Innovators' (a group of rogue Innovades lead by Ribbons Almark) to carry out Aeolia's plan. Eventually, he chose to believe in Neil's word and place his trust in humanity. He was willing to walk his own path and discover the truth through his own means, and accepted the human aspects of himself.

Celestial Being. Neil Dylandy and Veda. The Gundam Meisters Setsuna F. Seiei, Alleluyah Haptism and Lockon Stratos/Lyle Dylandy. Every crew member of the Ptolemaios. All of them were precious to him. When he suggested the plan to reclaim Veda, he went knowing that there was a high chance of him losing his life. And yet, he went without doubt and despite losing his life (his body to be exact, because Innovade's data/consciousness can be uploaded into Veda when their physical body died if met with the right conditions) to complete his mission, he was glad that it was because he wasn't human that he had the necessary ability to save his comrades and, by extension, humanity. He understood through the information in Veda, his true purpose of creation was to guide humanity towards Innovation and the dialogues to come. He accepted and aimed to fulfill it. They won the war and even though he lost his body, he never stopped watching over his comrades and the world from Veda.

PROJECTED CLASS: Lancer - Knight
Tieria was the designated tanker of his team and he was trained in multiple weaponry, thus the Knight class would be closest to the role he is comfortable in. He will be quite at home in Scarlett Dragons whose serious methods, driven atmosphere and their role in protecting people are similar to his ideals. Being in a guild with connection to law enforcement as well as the royals will also permits him a wider reach of accurate and untampered information first hand.

OTHER: Tieria is a Combat Type Innovade (RE: Innovade at Gundam Wiki) who is made with better battle intuition, combat reflexes and possesses higher physical abilities than regular humans as he is made with an aptitude suitable for a mobile suit pilot. His strength, agility and ability to withstand physical exertion are above average, compared to a normal human of his build. With Quantum Brainwaves, he's also able to communicate telepathically with his genetic twin Regene Regetta and by extension from having merged with Veda at his "death" (his physical body died, his consciousness and data merged with Veda, the quantum computer), Innovades.

In Dyspros, he will remain an Innovade with the majority of his hacking/computer/programming skills unusable because they are technologically based. He should still be able to use his telepathy because the skill doesn't rely on technology as well as maintaining his physical attributes.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE
Some things never changed. Even if he was in a world so foreign that he was unable to place it anywhere in his recollection of civilizations throughout history. A castle of that size and trees so huge that he had never thought possible was the first thing that greeted him when he stepped out of the castle's lobby when he first arrived. He knew at that moment that wherever he was, he was no longer where he should be. He wasn't in the digital space of Veda and neither was this a stimulation created by the quantum computer. But none of the discrepancy in his existence or this world changed who he was. So long as there was a reason for him being here, he would find it and complete it. Perhaps then, he would be able to return to where he truly belonged.

Time had passed long enough for him to attempt integrating into the society of Goldvale and yet he still feel disconnected from all that was happening around them. A society so archaic that he found to be unnecessarily inconvenient. Weapons that were no longer used in the modern society because of various reasons were commonly equipped and perfected by their wielder here. Like the lance and shield he was polishing in the comfort of his room at the Scarlett Dragons. Some day, he too, like everyone here would be able to wield them with ease.

However, none of that were more disturbing than to discover the use of magic, so prevalent in this society that he could not wrapped his mind around them. It was as if he had walked into the world of fairy tales written to warn children of the danger of the world. A thing that should have remained in the confine of stories and fantasy. But his thought was disturbed when the door opened to another Knight after a brief knock. Putting down the lance and polisher, he stood up and salute the Knight who was of higher rank than himself.

"Be at ease. You're wanted at the Guilmaster's office. Something about the thief you caught yesterday."

He raised a curious brow at that and drop the salute. "Do you know what is it about?" Arresting thieves and gamblers was a common duty for all members of the guild. And while they were normally dealt with by the higher ranking officers, he wondered why he, a newcomer was being called in about it. Did he caught someone suspicious of other crime? If he did, he wasn't aware of it, her face did not matched any on the wanted posters last he checked.

"I have no idea, they were pretty tight lipped about it. But I did heard the loots she had worth quite a bit. Must have stolen from the rich, that one. Best make haste and head over the office, least the Guildmaster will be displeased."

That made her another of one of those self-proclaimed hero of the people, stealing from the rich for the poor. But what caught his attention was the Guildmaster's involvement in the case. He nodded to the Knight and promptly headed to the bathroom to clean up and followed the Knight out to the Guildmaster's office.

PERSONALITY:

title or description"The soaring males spirit... The heart trobbing sparkling prince!
From the country's defense organization circus... second ship's member Yogi!"
title or description

Though he states that he is an adult (and often gets offended when someone called him a child), Yogi's actions are far from any usual person around his age. He enjoys playing games such as hide-and-seek during his free time, and displays his actions in the form of his silly antics. He is a rather easy-going individual with a lack of a desire for conflict. Even though he may, at times, come across as immature, this male will quickly makes up for it during a pressing matter.

Yogi is a member of the elite organization called Circus. These people take the place of a higher form of police working for the government in order to rid the town's of dangerous monsters known as Varuga. This group is compiled of the strongest and most qualified fighters— yes, included him. Yogi is fighter, sure, but when the situation calls for it, he usually becomes nervous or unwilling to want to preform a task. Even when Yogi is introduced, he notes that, while almost getting into a fight with two members of authority, that the situation was 'scary' and he was glad to have avoided a fight. This occurs whenever possible, and if there is a way out of not hurting someone or something, that is the usually his course of action most taken. He does however know how to get serious when the situation calls for it. Even though Yogi may not like fighting, he is still a fighter. So to protect his friends and for the safety of those around him, Yogi chooses to fight despite his dislike for violence.

To properly fit his personality, Yogi also dresses as a giant yellow cat by the name of Nyanperona. During the stages when Circus will go on a 'raid' through a town and get rid of the Varuga, the organization will host a festival in hopes of easing the towns people. So not only do the Circus members have the task of fighting these monsters, they also have an additional side job in these festivities- Nyanpersona being Yogi's. Though the original task was not chosen by him but by his captain Hirato, the idea soon grew on him as the male was able to interact with children and spend time with him. He is great with kids, and is even seen handing out candy bars or offering dazzling words from this Sparkling Prince. (While in Nyanperona he does not like to break character. Believing that the mascot is 'real' to the children and wouldn't want to crush them if they found out the truth underneath the costume-) There have been times when the identity of said costume had been compromised, to which he quickly tried to cover it up in order to uphold the feline's facade. This simply goes to show that his own childish heart reflects upon the children, as well as his growing innocence.

He is also very emotional, in which his facial expressions can easily note how the male is currently feeling at that exact moment. It is not unusual to see him shed a few tears over a sob story, or even something that has touched his heart on a personal level. Often times his reactions become over exaggerated and dramatic with hand gestures or randomly falling to the ground. Even more so his inability to properly lie to which he may make lame excuses to try to cover up or become less suspicious. At a point in time when questioned about becoming 'a child of circus' from Gareki, Yogi denied knowing any information on it and later feeling horrible for the lie. In the end, most of his lies end up falling through and the truth soon coming from that. All in all Yogi is pretty much an open book.

This male is also one for physical contact. Even if the receiver may not appreciate it as much as he does, Yogi is constantly offering hugs or kisses to those whom he feels are in need of them. Such as when Nai does something adorable that Yogi finds equally as such, or even when hearing a sob story from Gareki in which hugs were then offered. He isn't afraid to show off his emotions and extend them to those around him.

Speaking of Nai and Gareki, Yogi is very overprotective of the both of them. Not only because they are children, but by the fact they were chosen to be under his care while they held their stay in Circus. During such time the male has grown such an attachment to them he treats them almost like family. He praises them for their efforts, and does his best to support them in any way possible. Even when Gareki is difficult to him, Yogi was constantly worried about his well-being and even makes multiple efforts to try to get the other male to like him. Even though, at times, Yogi believes that Gareki does like him (such as not saying his name or abusing him-) he still clings to the younger male and becomes overjoyed the moment any sort of connection between the two is made. Yogi will even go as far as to scold Gareki for his thief-like ways, such as breaking into a locked room or using explosives. This is the same for Nai as well. Yogi is often found babying his boy in holding his hand, swinging him around, or even offering to take a bath together.

Yet that love does not only extend to either Nai or Gareki, but also to everyone he comes in contact with. He looks up to the other members of Circus such as Tsukuma and Hirato and aside from Doctor Akari whom constantly scolds or abuses him during Yogi's frequent check-ups (it is due to this that Yogi has an immense fear of doctors-) everyone else he has no hard time showing a smile or offer assistance. Yogi is very kind, and will take extra measures just to see that someone is taken care of or provided for. He does his best to help, even though at times he may become clumsy or ruin something in the process, but his heart is in the right place.

Though his childish antics this often leaves the male at the forefront of abuse. With every opportunity Yogi becomes a punching bag for most- either physically from Iva or Gareki, or even mentally from Hirato. He is teased due to his phobia of ghosts by Jiki, and often questioned about his age or threatened experimentation on his body by Akari.

However, there are times when his personality takes a turn for the worst. Yogi always has a medical patch which hangs underneath his left eye. It is constantly being replaced with a new patch, but during which when the medicine runs low and the patch is removed, the male changes into something completely different. From his hair color changing from his normal blond to an unusual silver, Yogi reclaims none of his memories during this state. Friends are usually no longer friends to him (though he was still able to save Gareki, he wasn't aware why he did) and the violent urge which is usually never present with this male becomes overpowering. In a way, he loses all sense of reality with only the true intent of harm, often asking his victims to 'play'. So while his external cheerfulness remains, a darker more sinister side arises along with the outstanding increase in fighting abilities. This state however, from a good knock in the head, can easily be broken and his personality quickly returns.

Yet despite all of this, as previously stated by Hirato, is "very good at alleviating people's fears". He uses this odd personality to reach out and touch people's hearts, whether they realize it or not. And because of his child-like charm, it makes this male as loveable as they come, despite any annoying factors that might follow.

PROJECTED CLASS:

Warrior > Paladin

Yogi would most likely being the Paladin base class. Because of his organizational background and his ability to work strongly in a group, Yogi would instantly be drawn to their structured and uplifting atmosphere. He has a good willed boy with striking innocence for his age. Doing good and helping for others is what he was meant to do, as his kindhearted actions reflect just that.

OTHER:
Yogi has a patch underneath his left eye which serves as a medical treatment for his "condition". If removed, this male becomes violent and blond hair changes to silver. He also hates going to the doctor.

Marta Lualdi | Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World | Reserved (2/3)

[personal profile] lightspins 2013-05-04 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY: From the get-go, one can tell that Marta is a confident individual, a total go-getter. She's sassy, stubborn, and doesn't shy away from almost any kind of topic. She won't hesitate to let someone know her opinion, whether or not it's even polite. Even in love, she's not the kind of person who'll get flustered and timid while harboring a secret crush. Instead, she'll outright declare it to the whole world—including her object of affection—whenever she can. Around others she's open and friendly, always willing to chat someone up and joke around with; whether you're a child, an adult, or somewhere in between, her first instinct will be to treat you like a friend. She's considerate as well, along with just being nice. Overall, she's a warm, compassionate individual to be around, one you'd want to be your friend.

Granted, that doesn't mean Marta's all flowers and sunshine. While not an avid lover of conflict, she won't back down from a fight if there's no other way out of it. As she gets chased around by her father's organization, this happens unfortunately often. It's not impossible for her to hate someone either, and such people will be met with intense hostility. She really knows how to hold a grudge, and it can be extremely difficult for her to forgive people if they've hurt the ones she loves. Even if she trusts someone, she's the type of person who needs to see to believe rather than believe in a person's word. In that way though, Marta tends to run away from problems if they concern herself—her relationship with her father is something in particular that she actually doesn't want to talk about. For her, it's something to avoid, to push back to the farthest corner of her mind, lest she wants to face changes she isn't willing to accept. After all, it's easier to avoid the issue rather than face it directly.

At other times though, Marta's too upfront, too direct. She had no problem telling Colette—the savior of the world—that she couldn't forgive her for letting a giant tree kill her mother. Even as she did so she knew it was an unreasonable grudge and something she should have let go, but it didn't stop her from telling Colette exactly what she felt about her for the last two years. She yells at her, shoves her against a wall, and storms off angrily; Marta has an aggressive personality, to say the least. The biggest challenge she faces, however, is when her incessant declarations of love for Emil finally pushes him over the edge and he snaps at her. To him, she had been forcing her grand fantasies onto him, never bothering to see who he really was. Her brass confidence and cheer is suddenly broken, and she's left feeling vulnerable and insecure. Underneath it all, she's really just a sensitive young woman who wants to be loved by the one she loves.

In reality though, she can be quite clingy. Marta depends heavily on other people. After losing her mother, she came to rely on her father for support and care, and once he was no longer someone she could depend on, she sought out Emil and came to rely on him with the help of Tenebrae. Marta appears as an independent young woman—and does eventually become one for real—but she has a fear that many people share: she doesn't want to be alone. It's something another person actually points out as being "weak," but while Marta never believes that depending on others can be bad, she also comes to be able to stand on her own two feet.

Marta is both your average teenage girl and a responsible adult. She's a complete romantic at heart, always supporting others' romantic endeavors, but tends to get jealous whenever another girl gets close to Emil. More often than not she's too stubborn for her own good, and while being able to voice your opinions can be good, she can get a bit out of hand with it and end up seeming rude. However, she knows how to be polite and proper when the situation calls for it. She knows what it means to take responsibility for something, even if it means her own death. It's evident that she has a bit of a self-sacrificial nature as she was willing to die to save a village and even turned herself in by herself when it seemed like she and her friends would get caught to save them. While she's not exactly book smart (in fact she never liked going to school) she shows signs of being a capable leader. She's completely capable of making decisions, even difficult ones, and knows how to listen to others while still taking charge of her own life.

PROJECTED CLASS: Performer ⇾ Dancer
Marta is a natural acrobat and light on her feet if her fighting style is anything to go by. Her physical attacks already incorporate things like spins, leaps, and high kicks, so the Dancer class is already the most suitable for her. Because she's not a heavy hitter and wouldn't want to train in other ways when she's already used to things like this, I think that Marta would naturally be more interested in this class than other ones. While she would miss her magic, she can also take care of that with the extra slots for skills.

OTHER: Don't eat her cooking or you will die.

Bart Allen | Young Justice | Not Reserved ( 2)

[personal profile] pits 2013-05-04 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY:
Brat Allen – I mean Bart - is a speedster. From the future. Due to this, he tends to speak, think and act fast. His thought process moves so fast that it can often leave people confused – he moves on from topic to topic before anyone can catch up to him. Being from the future, Bart is always amazed at things that are different than his own home (which was an apocalyptic wasteland) and shows a lot less tact than most people (such as eating junkfood and commenting on dead heroes in their prescence) though he doesn't mean to come off like that. He can be annoying and bothersome to people, and a lot of people aren't quite sure what to make of him, but he's a good kid at heart. Bart doesn't really understand when he's being annoying or why people think that way, but he brushes it off quickly. His speed seems to bleed over into his emotions – he can appear happy at one second, then angry – then he gets over it, and is back to being excitable. He's always energetic, though he calms down quite a bit after his first episode.

Bart also has a motormouth. He's absolutely horrible at keeping secrets, unless everything he's worked for depends on it. As mentioned above, he has no tact whatsoever, and some of what he says can sound insulting, even if he doesn't mean it like that. Sometimes he moves on from things too quickly and people have to remind him to slow down so that he can fully get what's going on. He's also a good liar – he came to the past to stop Blue Beetle from enslaving mankind, but wouldn't tell people about it at first. He manipulated people into helping him save Neutron and pretended to be stuck in the past, and at first wouldn't explain everything he knew. Even after telling Jaime abuot it, he still didn't want everyone else to find out in the off chance that one of the League would ignite the apocalypse. However, he's opened up a lot since then and now considers himself a part of the team – which includes acting like it. Where he was once a bit ignorant, Bart's grown into understanding people and what he should and shouldn't do. He's not good at being told off, either – sometimes taking it a bit too personally, though he's shown to get over it pretty quickly. If someone shows how annoyed they are at him, he'll feel bad quickly, like all of his momentum drying out.

As his superhero name implies, Bart is impulsive and often does whatever he wants on any whim possible. He shows up at people's houses in costume, shows little care for secret identities ("What's the point of hiding how crash we are?") and busts into people's private spaces. And takes their food. However, he's a good kid – he's willing to throw himself into any dangerous situation in order to help his friends and innocent people. Even when it might seem like a dead end, Bart never gives up. He's highly resourceful, an example being is he worked on a time machine in order to save the world, knowing that he'd never be able to get back to his own time.

Bart doesn't see himself as annoying, in fact he's a little full of himself when it comes to being a speedster. He likes teasing people about speed – even people he looks up to, like Wally West. He has a rather high opinion of himself, though in the beginning it was more of an act – in order to keep the future hidden and to win over the people he met in the past, he got “into character” and acted it out. He acted friendly towards Jaime/Blue Beetle in order to keep an eye on him because of what would happen with The Reach. Originally, Bart was serious and bitter when it came to his own timeline - he lived in an apocalyptic time and lying, scavenging, etc were all necessities. He was also angry about superheroes not being treated as heroes - it bothers him that they kept the memorials for the fallen ones underground. However, he knows his own limits and while he pushes himself the best he can, he knows what his speed can do, as well as what it can't. Bart also thinks he's the coolest shit in the world, which is objective… he is pretty cool. Sometimes. A lot of people in Young Justice don't agree. While he acts all high and mighty about being THE AWESOME BART ALLEN he can be grounded pretty quickly, though he still acts pretty highly about being The Flash's grandson, as well as super handsome and witty and all that. It's hard to point out what may be an act to him and what isn't now, as he's gotten into the character of being IMPULSE pretty heavily, though once the truth came out about the future, there wasn't much use for him to keep up the charade - it's generally implied that he accepted the hyper nature of Impulse. As time goes on, Bart becomes less hyper, more mellow - though still extremely fast and energetic, he isn't always putting on a huge show for everyone.

His primary goal was to stop Blue Beetle from going evil, specifically by not letting him be anything but a hero. In order to do this, Bart traveled from the future to help Neutron and to keep an eye on Blue Beetle, in order to save him from The Reach. However, he's also a superhero – saving innocent people is his deal! He really just wants to help out people in need – friends and family especially. Even if he offhandedly insults The Flash and Kid Flash, Bart truly looks up to them and adores every member of his family, and can't contain how happy he was to see them when he arrived in the past. At the end of the series, Wally told him that he could take up the costume of Kid Flash and Bart was thrilled – he saw it as an honour. He promised Kid Flash that he'd make him proud. After Wally died, Bart wore the costume, even if he was nervous about it.

Bart has trouble relating to people in the past, as he grew up in a completely different situation. However, he learns quickly and gets better at it as he gets closer to people. He acts completely friendly and familiar to almost anyone he talks to and doesn't have much of a filter, so it's a hit or miss with him. Despite his nature, he's good at being a friend. He's someone who breaks the ice in any conversation by throwing a bomb at it. He's the type to joke in bad situations, especially if it's considered “not a good time”. Bart tends to lighten up all situations by joking around.

As mentioned above, Bart is a speedster. He speaks faster and doesn't always end his sentences properly. He thinks in quick bursts too – he'll go from one subject to another in the span of milliseconds. He has to eat a lot of food to keep up his energy, and he tends to get hooked on junkfoods. He also uses slang from the future – i.e. he switches out positive words for ‘crash'. That's so crash! He also likes to play with people, especially when it comes to his speed – he loves running circles around people, etc. In that way, he's a bit of a troll – teasing people is in his nature, and he can be a bit sarcastic at times, even if he likes to make people feel better in general.

IC
NAME: Poland
CANON: Hetalia
CANON POINT: Modern Day
AGE: 1000 something. Physically looks 18.
APPEARANCE: badah~
PERSONALITY: How one describes Poland's personality depends entirely on how well they know him. To an unsuspecting stranger, Poland appears to be a cripplingly shy, quiet and introverted young man who is almost impossible to get to know. Ideally, Poland would never interact with strangers at all so in situations where he is forced to meet new people he tends to panic and becomes very upset. For the most part he can pull himself together to boast his way through an initial interaction. Once he runs out of things to boast about however, he tends to either blurt out something ridiculous or give way to his natural bashfulness, usually running to hide behind something or someone. Forming a long lasting relationship is rather difficult as it takes him quite a while to come out of his shell.

When he does come out of his shell and starts to feel comfortable around someone Poland's personality does a complete 180 degree turn. Poland can become a very bubbly, talkative and rather bossy person. Poland has a very carefree and lacksadaisy approach to life for the most part. He's never been one to stress out or worry and prefers to look on the bright side of things with an almost endless stream of optimism. He has a boundless imagination and good sense of humor, and would much rather spend his time having fun and being silly over taking everything in life seriously. When he finds someone he truly likes to be around, he clings to them dearly and makes himself a constant presence in their life regardless of whether they like it or not. He has a very high opinion of himself and doesn't care very much what others might think of him, even when it comes to his friends. Poland tends to treat those around him like his lackeys and can frequently be regarded to as a burden on those around him due to his crazy antics and overbearing personality. He has promised to try to act less bossy and selfish in the future, however.

People often underestimate Poland due to what they perceive as an air-headed personality, but he's actually very capable. Back in the Middle Ages he was a super power that dominated Eastern Europe. While his super power status has eroded with time, Poland has still managed to endure. When Poland does get into trouble whether or his own doing or at the hands of another country, he usually comes out of it okay thanks to his positive outlook, strong sense of self confidence and unyielding determination to continue on. Even after being divided by surrounding nations to the point that he was no longer considered a country, he managed to rise back up against all odds. Because of this he's often likened to that of a phoenix; a mythical bird that goes through a continuous cycle of death and rebirth.

Poland is very religious and considers his Catholic upbringing important to him. The year he was recognized as an official nation was the year Poland's first documented ruler converted to Catholicism in 966. Since then his religion has always been one of the cornerstones of Poland's existence. In canon Poland made a big deal of holding mass before going into battle against the Teutonic Knights (Prussia) at Grunwald.

Poland has rather effeminate looks for a boy and has never been one to adhere to traditional gender roles. He loves the color pink, wearing skirts and dresses, and other things stereotypically attributed to young ladies. Poland feels that looking cute shouldn't be limited to something as superficial as gender. As a child the ambiguousness of Poland's gender was a cause for concern for Prussia, who wasn't supposed to speak to girls as a Teutonic Knight.

Poland has a distinct speaking pattern reminiscent of a valley girl dialect. It's not unusual for his speech to be peppered with "likes," "totallys," or "whatevers."

He also has a strong love of horses, ponies in particular. This is a call back to his younger days when Poland had one of, if not the, most powerful cavalries in the world. Despite the world moving forward from horses to more advanced technology, Poland is still a force to be reckoned with when battling on a horse.

Poland gets along best with Lithuania and likewise the two countries seem to bring out the best in one another... when they're not fighting at least. The more dominate personality of the two, Poland tends to treat Lithuania like his personal lackey, but always with the best of intentions. He's very protective over Lithuania and acts as his personal advocate against Russia and Belarus, or anything else that might harm his well-being.

Poland really likes Lithuania. Really. Reaaaaaallly. Really likes him. So much so that even when Lithuania is angry with him or yells at him, Poland doesn't feel any resentment towards Lithuania for it at all. He likes who he likes! Nothing can change how much he likes Lithuania, even Lithuania not particularly liking Poland. That being said, just because he doesn't care if Lithuania hates him that doesn't mean he'll ignore Lithuania's complaints. When Lithuania accuses Poland of being too bossy and selfish Poland cheerfully promises to work on his faults. In later strips, Poland appears to have toned his bossiness and selfishness down somewhat and as a result is a much better friend. Still there's definitely room for improvement.

Poland's relationship with the rest of Eastern Europe varies.

Poland considers himself pretty friendly with Lithuania's Baltic "Siblings," Estonia and Latvia, but isn't anywhere as invested in them as he is with Lithuania. Alternatively, Estonia and Latvia both seem to harbor a slight resentment over how they have to compete with Poland for Lithuania's attention. Regardless of that, at the very least Estonia is happy to help Poland when he has computer problems at Lithuania's request.

Because of his slavic roots, Poland is more closely related to Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus than he would ever care to admit. Despite a rocky history between them, Ukraine and Poland enjoy a healthy friendly relationship. When it comes to Ukraine's younger siblings however, things are decidedly less friendly. Poland is not overly fond of Belarus, namely because of the way she treats Lithuania and coupled with his own jealousy at how enamored Lithuania is with her despite how abusive she is to him. As hard as he tries to convince Lithuania that he does not have super flexible fingers and that Belarus breaking them so they bend the wrong way is not at all cute, it doesn't seem to have any effect. It makes him incredibly frustrated as one might imagine, but he keeps trying.

During the Commonwealth, Poland and Lithuania lived together with Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine and Belarus. Despite their differences and the various hardships they endured, Poland has always looked back at that time fondly and considers the relationships that he developed with them important to him.

Alternatively, Poland reserves the majority of his malcontent for Russia. Poland considers Russia nothing more than a big bully inflicting himself on others. Because of Russia's huge size, power, and frightening persona a lot of countries are intimidated by Russia. Poland however, has no problem standing up to him and isn't scared of him at all. Russia doesn't seem to be all that fond of Poland either and has continually tried to stomp him out, only for Poland to continue to come back. Their relations to this day are still strained.

Poland is also best friends with Hungary whom he's known since he was little. She has affectionately nicknamed Poland, "PoPo," and is the only other character besides Lithuania that has a nickname for Poland.

Poland also completely adores North Italy from when they lived together in Austria's home after the partitions of Poland. Italy's even mentioned in Poland's national anthem and Poland's mentioned in Italy's. In canon, Lithuania seems to look very distraught whenever Poland gushes about how much he loves hanging out with Italy.

Poland also seems to have some kind of relationship with Prussia. Strips show that the two were seen together as children, but the nature of this relationship is not entirely clear in canon. In one strip Prussia warns Poland about staying away from Hungary after getting beat up by her. In another, Prussia chases a terrified Poland around, demanding to touch his balls so he could confirm that Poland was in fact a boy despite looking so outwardly feminine.

PROJECTED CLASS: Poland is probably most interested in being in the cavalier class. Poland's always been interested in horses and has an unparalleled mastery of fighting on horse back. Poland is also no stranger to the perseverance needed to be a cavalier. Throughout his history there have been many times that Poland easily could have faded from existence. Yet he overcame all of his obstacles, rising up from adversity like a phoenix rising from the ashes. The implied religious element, being blessed by god, would also appeal to Poland.

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: badah~
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:

Poland's not sure why he first thought this was a good idea. Maybe it'd been the name? The Scarlett Dragons...

Yeah. It'd definitely been the name. Poland couldn't possibly find a cooler group name than that, so obviously he had to be apart of it. But while the name was awesome, the obvious deal sealer was the promise of getting hang out with horses. He was practically born to ride horses! He couldn't think of any better way to spend his time here than in the total bliss riding gave him.

Although now the thought has crossed his mind that he's really too skilled at this for his own good. The current training was basic, easy mode to the max! It was hard to pay attention day in and day out to things that were so mind numbingly simple. He couldn't! It was impossible! So often he found himself spacing out during lessons which suffice to say wasn't exactly endearing him much to anyone in this guild. Almost everyone here was overly high strung and kind of super rude and took everything way too seriously-- it wasn't his fault they were boring!

It's not like hard work was foreign to Poland, he'd watched while Lithuania did it for centuries. It's just the stuff they were doing wasn't hard though.

At least he'd scraped by enough that they let him stay long enough to make it to training with actual animals.

"Oh yes you're such a good boy, yes you are!" He laughs, his horse nuzzling against his cheek gently. Poland gestures at the saddle his hands "I'm ready if you're ready?" The horse blows air at him excitedly, sending the loose strands of hair from Poland's ponytail fluttering.

Poland gently sets the saddle in place, securing it effortlessly and mounts the horse soon after. Looking around at some of the other trainees still working, Poland leans forward with a mischievous smile and whispers in the horses' ear.

"Mmm... wanna do something a little more fun?"

With no warning Poland and the horse take off into the large open field, Poland's laughter echoing from the distance. He was probably never going to hear the end of it when he came back, but finally getting to ride was totally worth it.

IC
NAME: Zoe Alleyne Washburne
CANON: Firefly
CANON POINT: From after the movie Serenity
AGE: 34
APPEARANCE:

PERSONALITY:
The “warrior woman” to the core, Zoe Washburne is tough, powerful in battle, protective of others, and possessed of a strong sense of fair play. She is mostly serious, especially when there’s trouble, though with a dry wit when she does loosen up, particularly when in the company of her jovial husband Wash-- Hoban Washburne-- or her captain in his lighter moments. With strangers, she is private and tight-lipped, but she’ll regale a friend with a story or try to comfort someone (not always well) when they’re worried. Still, she isn't afraid to tell someone the truth, either, even if it isn't the most optimistic thing to say, like reminding Kaylee that sometimes the captain's plans weren't necessarily the best plans. If Mal sees the crew as a family, Zoe is the den mother, albeit the strict den mother with high expectations for her children and an over-protective streak. Even in the war, she never stopped trying to teach those under her and Mal's command, so they wouldn't get themselves killed, and didn't have any qualms about using a nickname or two to drive the point home-- "little one" was a favorite, for younger privates.

Despite her preference for being fair, Zoe doesn’t mind that her current line of work is mostly outside of the law, because they steal from those who either have too much already, like the wealthy Earth-That-Was collector; who no longer need what they’re taking, like the dead; or have the means to replace what was taken, such as the Core planet hospital which could be restocked within a matter of hours. Stealing from the Alliance doesn't bother her at all, since she sees them as patently unfair, hoarding goods that others could use and trying to run people's lives. The criminals who fence their goods are less savory, but they are necessary, and Zoe is also pragmatic: you have to play by the rules of the outer planets to get things done, sometimes, and even the dangerous ones have their own code. When she knows that something planned or done is actually unfair, however, she and Mal always try to do the right thing: for example, when they realized they'd stolen medicine needed by a local mining town, they returned it as soon as they had the chance, despite earning themselves a powerful enemy.

Zoe lives by her head, not her heart, and rarely lets emotion cloud her judgement when in the heat of the moment. Of course, the emotion is still there, just often masked behind a deadpan poker face, and not allowed to sway her if it goes against the practical and intelligent choice. She is calm in the face of danger of all kinds, from a gunfight to a bar brawl, to even negotiations with a wealthy sociopath for her wounded husband and captain. It’s very rare that she lets her heart run away with her when it shouldn’t, and it only takes place in the face of emotional extremes, like when her husband was killed by Reavers, and she let her grief and anger get her wounded; she wanted to hurt the Reavers up close, not hide behind crates and shoot at them. But even then, she wore a stoic mask the whole time, showing emotion only in her actions, not her face.

As former career military, Zoe has a great respect for leadership-- if said leadership is deserved, and has been earned. She is loyal to a fault, once her respect has been earned, sometimes causing friction with her husband when he envied the respect she showed Mal. She is most comfortable when she knows someone’s role in the situation, and is content to keep people in roles they may have since outgrown, such as Mal’s role as her Sergeant in the war, and she tends to follow his lead in many things despite her own ability in leadership. She is capable of doing something other than following his orders blindly, of course, but usually in situations where the captain is not present-- such as when she regained consciousness to find he'd ordered the crew off the ship so he could "go down" with it alone-- or when she thinks it is none of his damn business-- like when he told her not to marry Wash.

On the other hand, while she loves structure and order in her own life, that does not mean she loves rules and regulations. She has a strong distaste for being controlled or ordered about by someone she does not respect-- such as the Alliance authorities on the Core planets. Her feelings towards the Alliance are not as strong or as personal as Mal's, but she doesn't particularly like them, either, and would rather just avoid them if she can. She feels the Core planets are stifling, places where you can get arrested for littering, or so she claims. She goes so far as to avoid even setting foot on one when they dock for legitimate reasons, despite Wash wanting to partake in all the tourist sights on them.

PROJECTED CLASS:
Archer => Gunner

I’ll put her in the Gunner class at the start, given her preference for her short rifle and other projectile weapons, but her additional skill with melee will work well with the acrobatic aspects of the class. I intend to eventually subclass her with Ranger (because animal companions FTW) and maybe one of the more melee classes, possibly Punisher, to make use of those skills she already has, as well. She can’t resist getting in on the action directly sometimes.

OTHER: If there comes any means to get her in the air (flying animals or contraptions!) she’ll most definitely want to try that :: grins ::

FIRST PERSON SAMPLE:

A network post at her previous game.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE
Zoe stood in front of the The Gazelle and Child, arms folded across her chest and her now-useless gun slung over her shoulders. It’d been a week, now, and she wasn’t much liking living on the streets and in homeless shelters. Serenity wasn’t here yet, looking for her... and she needed some way to get by on her own.

And apparently the way you got by on your own around here was to be part of a guild. She’d spent the day walking from hall to hall, trying to decide what she could do that fit her skills, her mindset, and her previous loyalties... she’d gone around and around about it. She didn’t like this-- she wanted to tell them all to (fuck themselves), to stalk off and leave the city, to find a spaceport. Every planet had to have one, even one as backwards as this one, or maybe she could set up some kind of beacon for her ship to find.

But that would take time and money, neither of which she had. The way to get them? Work for one of these guilds.

The sight of people with bows and arrows practicing outside The Gazelle and Child originally made her roll her eyes. This planet really was backwards. She needed the heft of her rifle in her hands, the security of actual steel and gunpowder, not some piece of wood and string. It seemed like a toy, next to a good gun. They weren’t even a force bolt creation, like Inara’s beast of a bow, just simple tools that not even the worst backbirth would choose if they had a pistol handy.

Zoe turned to leave, again, thinking she might just have to head back to the Seven Titans to sign up there. At least they had weapons with some heft to them, even if it wasn’t her favorite way to fight, and didn’t seem to require any funny oaths or service to any kings. And as she turned, that was when she spotted her first gunner, heading out of one of the cabins with a long-range rifle resting across his shoulder... and then she finally smiled.

IC
NAME: Mikado Ryuugamine
CANON: Durarara!!
CANON POINT: The end of volume 6 of the light novels.
AGE: 16
APPEARANCE: Pic here! Anime appearance because it makes icons easier!
PERSONALITY: Mikado’s first appearance shows him as shy, naive, nervous, and easily both startled and excited. His introduction into the city of Ikebukuro is full of conversations he can’t keep up with, wide-eyed views of the buildings and people, and trepidation about violence. He follows rather meekly along after his more experienced friend Masaomi, and it takes all of his courage to volunteer to be class representative. Likewise, while he wants to be brave and protect his classmate Anri when she is being bullied, Mikado has to work hard to convince himself to step forward and actually do so, considering his shy nature and his lack of experience with conflict. While his personality while chatting online as Tanaka Taro is a little more outgoing, he still tends to attempt to avoid arguments.

His sense of excitement and wonder can sometimes overwhelm these traits, however. When Mikado first meets Celty Sturluson - known as the “Black Motorbike” and “Headless Rider” - he reacts with astonishment rather than fear. On a later meeting, he requests that she allow him to see under her helmet, and when he sees that she truly does lack a head, he proceeds to act as a friend to her rather than running away.

It is also pointed out by several people who know him that when Mikado is in dangerous situations, he’s not just afraid but also exhilarated. Of course, anyone would have an adrenaline reaction, but the fact that Mikado started the Dollars (an online gang) as a way to escape from “everyday life” makes it apparent that some part of him wanted more. While he didn’t understand what he was getting into at the time, there are several points where he was offered an “out” and didn’t take it.

Is this because he enjoys danger and truly does want a “non-everyday life”? Partially. It is pointed out to him that he’s smiling or obviously enjoying himself during a tense situation more than once, and he eventually has to admit that he doesn’t want to be left out or left behind.

The other main reason for his continued involvement in the underworld of Ikebukuro, however, is a sense of responsibility. For Mikado, it is a simple truth that if he hadn’t created the Dollars, many of the things which happened to his friends and other innocent parties wouldn’t have happened. While Color Gang violence in Ikebukuro was a problem before he was ever involved, the Dollars created a whole new type of gang, and had a lawless platform that allowed members to feel emboldened without feeling constrained. Despite the fact that his fellow founders cut and ran, Mikado quite simply feels that he would be wrong to do the same, and must follow things through to their conclusion.

This sense of responsibility not just for his own actions but for the actions of others that were using the name of his organization has led him to a turning point: in order to have some measure of the “happy ending” that he does crave - and the everyday life he now wishes he could return to - he has to learn to be cold, calculating, and dangerous in his own right. When he commits violence against a kohai from school who also leads a gang, he has planned it out in advance, is tapping his pen in a manner that intimidates and distracts, and is presenting a smiling and self-assured countenance. When he bandages the young man’s hand immediately afterward, Mikado is right back to the kind face he shows at school or anywhere else.

This kind of versatility and ability to evolve in order to reach his goal is a very important part of Mikado’s current personality, just as much as the fact that he still does retain enough of his earlier idealism to want to “clean Dollars up” in the first place. Exactly how far Mikado is capable of going isn’t known at this point in the series, but he’s definitely on a road to a darker place, and the fact that he is still capable of trusting (the wrong) people is both a sign he retains some innocence and a serious danger to him.

PROJECTED CLASS: I actually have to put more than one answer here, because Mikado is the type of person to be heavily influenced by those around him, and is torn between two desires in his life.

If his desire for a “normal” life wins out, his primary class will be merchant or scholar. He is intelligent, serious about his studies, and used to taking care of his own finances. At home, he pays for his own housing and other expenses through a number of online endeavors.

On the other hand, he is also at a point in his life where he is desperately trying to become stronger and gain power in the Tokyo underworld, which could lead him to exploring either fighter or thief occupations if no one discourages him from doing so and he isn’t influenced by the presence of any cast members or voices of reason. He has just, at this point in canon, taking over another gang in the hopes of purging his own of influences he doesn’t like, and he’s immersed in a gang war. So the idea of learning more about underworld factions in a new world would appeal to him if no one stepped in and told him otherwise.

I’m hoping to be able to play out him considering his choices ICly before coming to a decision!

FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: test drive meme thread is here
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE These are not the streets of Ikebukuro. Mikado can’t help but think that each time he walks through the town, wide eyes taking in the sights. The buildings are different, the way of life is different, and most of all, his phone can’t connect to the Dollars bulletin board, which makes him feel lonely in a way he hadn’t expected. Even if his life had gotten out of control back home, he’d always felt like he was a part of something, and he’d clung to being part of that long past the point where he should have stepped back.

Now, walking through these streets alone, it’s far more lonely than that first day in Tokyo. After all, he can’t just log on and ask his questions of people he already knows, and he’s left struggling to sort out his future on his own. The strange faces on the mystical gym device he’s been given are interesting, but have no real context yet, and the people before him... well, maybe they’re the upside.

After all, as Mikado walks through the streets of the strange city, he finds himself wide-eyed staring quite often. The clothing styles are different, but that’s not al! The people here all seem to be busy with different types of commerce that he’s never seen before, and openly carrying strange weapons from bygone times, or ones he never knew existed at all! Not only that, but if he keeps his eyes open, he can catch hints of what seems like an underworld existing in this place as well, and a little thrill goes through him that’s a mixture of fear and excitement the first time he takes a wrong turn and winds up in a dark alleyway.

Before he knows it, he’s walking faster, trying to take in everything at once. If he doesn’t understand everything that is being said - for lack of context - and if he stops and bows once when bumping into a stranger on the street, and if he doesn’t quite fit in yet... that’s just all the more reason for his racing heart, and the smile that’s spreading across his face.

“This isn’t Ikebukuro...”

And when he says it aloud, it’s easy to tell that the boy is terrified and elated at once.

CHARACTERS IN GAME: all of them. i'm all of those characters already in the game

IC
NAME: Apollo
CANON: Genesis of Aquarion
CANON POINT: Post-canon
AGE: 13
APPEARANCE: arf arf arf
PERSONALITY: Apollo is the reincarnation of an angelic hound, and boy, does it show. He's brash, stubborn, reckless, and rude, and generally seems to act much more like a dog than a person. At the same time, he's much more in-tune with nature and the world than a normal person, and as time goes on, he proves how worthy he is to inherit Solar Wing's legacy - a brave, bold and passionate young man.

The key word up there was "like a dog." A lot of his behavior is really reminiscent of a big wolf puppy or something along those lines. He's nosy and energetic with little to no sense of personal space, having no problem sniffing his friends (or even strangers) if he thinks he smells something familiar or weird on them. Poor manners also factor into that, although it's somewhat excusable as he grew up as an orphan who stole to make a living. Always on the move, he can be hard to keep track of, as he usually does exactly what he feels like and nothing less - rules and laws generally mean very little to him if they're in the way of his goals. Similarly, he has a tendency to play hard with others, and gets into fights and scuffles fairly often; he loves to compete and be the best at whatever he does. While I wouldn't call it 'getting worked up' over it, he likes to escalate little issues into physical fights, and in general solves his problems with actions rather than words. All of this comes together to make a boy who fails spectacularly at making first impressions - he's usually 'that weird guy who jumped me and tried to steal my candy.'

As previously mentioned, he's much more in-tune with his natural side and the heart rather than logic or science. Emotions are usually the backbone of his actions, and they sometimes get the better of him and lead him to make bad decisions, such as breaking the barrier around one of Earth's last remaining cities and subsequently blowing up half of it to save one single friend (who then died anyway.) He doesn't usually plan things in the long term, living life in short bursts. Solve immediate problems first, worry about the aftereffects later. This makes him a rather volatile character to be around at times, as he can be impulsive and doesn't usually filter his thoughts (or his mouth.) He always feels emotions at 100%, rarely repressing anything. Apollo cries when he's sad, laughs when he's happy, and if he's mad, boy, you better watch out.

On the other hand, he's got so much honest passion and energy that he almost always gets shit done one way or another. When Apollo sets his mind on something, he can be relied upon to follow through until the bitter end. This carries through to his relationships with others, as well. Once you've managed to befriend Apollo and earn his respect, his loyalty will be unwavering. As described above, he will go to insane lengths to protect and care for the people important to him. And despite his usual boneheaded, beastly nature, he's actually quite in-tune with how his friends are feeling, and will usually react accordingly. When they're sad, he'll take his attitude down a notch and try to cheer them up. When they're hurt, he'll do everything in his power to comfort and heal them. And when they're happy, he'll be his usual mischievous ball-of-energy self. A softer side to the rough-and-tough animal boy shines through in these times; he's got a human heart, too, and he really cares a lot about his friends.

He's noted for his bravery and is said to have a noble spirit, thanks to his self-sacrificing nature and acceptance of everybody, no matter what they are or how they appear. There are things that Apollo isn't so great at dealing with - as mentioned before, his etiquette isn't the best, and in certain situations, he's sort of at a loss. As he says himself, "I eat, sleep, and fight." Things outside of that circle of basic survival (and beyond making friends and allies) can confuse him. He tiptoes around the topic of romance, which he clearly has no experience with, becoming utterly awkward and making lame excuses and denials when his (potential) relationship with Silvia is brought up. Complex issues like morality and racism usually fly over his head; there's much kerfuffling about whether it's right or wrong to treat Sirius and Silvia as allies despite their Shadow Angel blood, as well as whether it was okay to capture the Shadow Angel Futaba, who was responsible for massacres but so young that he didn't realize what he was doing, and use him as a guinea pig. Apollo usually only manages a simple solution for such problems, and feels a lot of pain and guilt over them later, not knowing how to deal with them.

PROJECTED CLASS: I'm guessing Apollo will go into the Fighter's Guild and become a Mercenary. In-canon, he has a very scrappy, dirty method of fighting, which irritates his rival Sirius (who is a properly-trained fencer, etc) a lot whenever they get into fights - Apollo often ends up winning because he'll drop his sword and bite Sirius' shins or whatever. The general feel of the Fighter's Guild suits him pretty well, too - wild warriors. Also smelly and full of food and animal parts.

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: ye olde holly heights thread
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE: So. Joining a guild, huh?

Apollo was not exactly a team player. True, he did run with his pack of orphans growing up - because they were family. Working together with a group of people he didn't care about, though, that was different. He'd rather just go attack this dumb castle on his own, because he just knows all of this guild stuff is going to slow that down. At least, that's what he believes, sitting up on the roof of the Ugly Jackal with half an apple in one hand. (He may or may not have stolen that.) Besides, most of the people around here were just dumb drunks. This was the place he picked because they seemed like they were the ones who really knew how to fight, and the tavern was warm inside, but the more he watched the people coming in and out of there, the more he was convinced he was probably better off on his own.

For example, right now, there was some big ugly brute of a man swaggering out of there, dragging an admittedly-equally-brutish-looking (but probably less drunk) woman along with him. Ordinary enough, except the latter yanked her hand away, looking pretty pissed off, and started stomping off - also ordinary enough, except the inebriated gentleman was rolling back a fist now. Well. He'd probably deserve what was coming to him, but Apollo was in a sour mood, so without much thought, he lobs the apple at the guy's head, full power. And it's a score!

"Oi. You don't wanna get into a fight with a girl like that. She'll hit you really hard. Now pay me back for wasting some of my food helpin' you out," he growls, standing up and pouncing off the roof with surprising composure - he lands on his feet, almost catlike. Of course, he's not stupid enough to think this guy's actually going to buy him anything. He's going to fight. No powers. Nothing special. Around here, he was just another lost kid - not an Element, not a pilot, no Aquarion to back him up. Not Solar Wing. He was on his own.

But he kind of liked it like that.

Estellise Sidos Heurassein | Tales of Vesperia | Not Reserved

[personal profile] compassions 2013-05-04 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
IC
NAME: Estellise Sidos Heurassein
CANON: Tales of Vesperia
CANON POINT: After meeting with Phaeroh
AGE: 18
APPEARANCE: Here you are!
PERSONALITY: Estellise is a kind young princess from the capital city of the Empire, Zaphias. Though given her status, she was not allowed to leave her castle for her entire life, thus was only fed the information the council had wanted her to know, making her a very naïve young woman. Though while she is naïve, she gained an exquisite amount of knowledge from the books she had read while confined to the castle, thus making her like a walking encyclopedia. To put it shortly, she has zero street smarts, but insanely book smart. Naturally, for someone like herself who finally chose to escape from the castle (with a young man who had just escaped from jail, no less, though he is the best friend of a knight she highly trusts), only having book smarts had its strengths and weaknesses. And while she was not allowed to go into the outside world, she was trained how to fight by knights, therefore she is able to hold her own in battle in case something were to happen to her.

Though she is a noble and the way she speaks gives away her status, she hardly judges anyone else by what they look like or their status. Rather, she does get to know them and make her own judgment based on their personalities. Though sometimes in doing that, she comes to trust someone too easily, and thus is capable of being taken advantage of, which is shown later in canon by when she gets kidnapped by Raven and given over to Alexei, since her power of The Child of the Full Moon is what he sought after. But going beyond her status and her power, she wishes to be seen as a person, thus that is why she gets ecstatic when she gets christened “Estelle” by Yuri. While she still introduces herself as ‘Estellise’ to everyone she encounters for the first time, she is more than happy to be called by her nickname, as it shows her that they see her as a person, such as when Rita calls her ‘Estelle’ for the first time.

By the way she speaks, how she postures herself and her manners, many people are able to tell that she is of noble, if not royal birth. It is a natural habit she has, even if she does try her best to hide that fact. Another thing she attempted to hide was the fact that she was able to use her healing powers without the aid of a Blastia. In fact as shown in game, Yuri and Rita figured out that fact the first time she cast a healing spell on each of them, respectively. However, the Blastia is still shown to be needed to learn what are skills and other artes that do not involve the healing element.

Back to her never really being out of the castle, Estelle never really had to make any hard decisions on her own as pretty much all decisions were made for her. And out in the real world all she thought she had to do was heal people and be thanked for it. That was pretty simple, right? However, while on her journey, she was forced to make a few difficult decisions and it took her some time to figure out what to do and what people it would affect. Sometimes the decisions she was forced to make caused her to truly think about what is ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong’. She knows the laws and at many times at the beginning of her journey with her party points out what they were doing was breaking the law. Later in the story she ends up confused when she found out Yuri had murdered two people, however his actions saved numerous lives. With 'law keepers' massacring people for fun and 'criminals' who couldn't turn a blind eye to someone suffering, she could no longer go by the textbook definitions of 'right' and 'wrong'. As her journey continues, she learns that while making choices herself was difficult, she notes that ‘to live means to choose’ meaning that while she was in the castle for the first eighteen years of her life, she never was truly ‘living’.

The choices she made on her journey were those that she was proud to say were her own, and no one ever forced her to make decisions she never wanted to make. In this sense, this was how she grew in the greatest sense during the course of the game. When she had first left the castle, while it was her choice, she was on a mission to inform a friend he was in danger. By the end of the game, she grew because of what she learned about how corrupted people can be, and those that were deemed ‘criminals’ were only titled as such because they were rebelling against those who had been corrupted by power. She also grew in the sense that she learned that the choices she makes weren’t going to please everyone, to her dismay. Sometimes she would make choices that would make people unhappy, like running off into the desert by herself where she would likely get dehydrated and die. In the most natural sense, all Estelle wants is people to be happy, and while it was hard for her to learn that lesson, she knew she could never please everyone.

However, some choices she had made (and if her friends allowed those choices to go through) would endanger or cost her her life, including the time she had asked to be killed. Those choices were only made when she realized she was putting her friends lives in danger, thus shows us that she puts others above herself – that she is someone who is truly selfless.

Estelle is also very compassionate and selfless when it comes to helping others. The moment she sees someone injured she will heal them without asking for anything in return. While this is one of her greatest strengths, it is also her greatest weakness – one, because even at times when she needs to ‘lay low’, she will still go out and heal every injured person in sight whether they want to be healed or not, two, she sometimes forgets about her own well-being and collapses from exhaustion and three, she literally killed an ally of hers with her compassion. However, even though she has such power she is not corrupt and is told to never lose the selfless compassion she has for others. Because of this compassion, at times she will end up forcing the party she’s traveling with to take on new jobs when she sees people suffering. If they don’t need healing, then they need liberation or a task done that cannot be done by them, but by a stronger group such as Brave Vesperia. This is when her selflessness becomes selfishness and she ends up being called out on it as well.

PROJECTED CLASS: Acolyte > Oracle

Given her canon powers, she's a perfect fit for the Oracle class. Canonically, she has holy and healing powers herself, so any other class simply wouldn't work. Also, given her altruistic personality, and how she views herself as needed because of her healing abilities, anything but a healer would not fit Estelle at all. So basically, Estelle is a shoe in fit for the Oracle class.
OTHER: I'm assuming her status as a Child of the Full Moon will not effect anything here. If so, please let me know.

IC
NAME: Haytham Kenway
CANON: Assassin's Creed III
CANON POINT: 1755, after the initiating Charles into the Templar Order
AGE: 30
APPEARANCE: Image Over Here
PERSONALITY:
Haytham Kenway is a man particularly devoted to his beliefs. He himself laments to his comrades that human history is full of conflicts. When one war ends another begins, the weaker people are always conquered by the stronger. It is a sad inevitable cycle that he would like to change. The way to end all of the struggle in his mind is to give the people a sense of order and purpose. To protect the unenlightened people from the mistakes of the past by leading them towards a more peaceful future. The guiding principal of the Templars is 'peace through control' and Haytham fully believes in this. He finds most people either too ignorant or too greedy to progress past this cycle of war and conflict and thinks that this endless loop can only be stopped once the Templars have full control and final say on everything. He largely blames human nature for conflict and is actually a touch arrogant in thinking his order could do any better, given that they too are humans and subject to the same weaknesses as everyone else. But he does not see it that way. He believes he knows better than most what people are capable of and will lecture anyone needing instruction on this. After all in his eyes they are just naive or uninformed and might be brought around to see reason. In this way of thinking he has a very self righteous streak.
Haytham can be ruthless in pursuing his goals but he is not irredeemably cruel. Haytham sees no difficulty in carrying out assassinations even when the victim's family is there, he sets ambushes to kill soldiers, and will murder former allies if there is something to be gained from their deaths. But, like the assassins he does not kill innocent civilians and in fact he becomes incensed when a fellow Templar breaks this rule. During the Austrian War of Succession Haytham watched Braddock brutally kill a family just because they had dared to ask Braddock’s retreating army for safe passage on the boats to avoid the French army when they overran the British defenses and sacked the nearby town. General Braddock would later be murdered by Haytham and he would mention this senseless slaughter as one of the reasons why. More than that Haytham admits Braddock's death will open negotiations with the native people and he might be able to find the hidden precursor temple and the secrets contained within. That would strengthen the Templar Order and it was more than worth the sacrifice of one life to find. This ruthless tendency of Haytham's only grows stronger with age as he has moments of tormenting people for information, leaving no informant alive and trying to force his viewpoint more than before. In fact his own later cruelty seems to surprise him. But in his youth this ruthless streak is much more contained. He threatens more than he actually causes lasting injury and seems to act more to defend his cause with the least amount of casualties. He even apologizes to the assassin he kills in the theater before ending his life and seems genuinely sorry to have to murder him.
Haytham expects his inferiors to listen to his orders when he speaks and carry out their duties without fail. While he can at times find the mannerisms of the lower classes amusing, like Thomas Hickey's unique way with words, he can also be dismissive of them. Like when he and Charles are walking through the streets of Boston and a thief grabs a piece of produce from a lady and runs off with it. He could easily have chased down the thief and helped the woman retrieve her property but instead he just turns to Charles and calls Boston a ‘lively city’ while the thief is allowed to make his escape. He didn’t bother to dirty his hands helping the lower-class woman stop the thief or assist her in the slightest by helping her pick up the other produce the thief had scattered all over the ground in his bid to escape. He just commented on the situation and kept right on walking. The difference probably that being Thomas was a Templar and therefore an equal while the woman was an unknown and therefore beneath him.
The Grand Master is poised and 'dashing as they come' as he would later be described by a member of the assassin order who saw him in his youth. Haytham dresses well and carries himself with an air of authority. Quick witted he is able to return any insult leveled against him and if words prove insufficient he is more than capable of backing them up in armed or unarmed combat. More than once Haytham has taken on, and defeated, a group of men who failed to show him the proper respect. When fighting isn't necessary Haytham is very well spoken and can often bring people around to his way of thinking just through the power of conversation. Haytham is unflappable whether in times of peace or times of conflict, able to quickly get a feel for whatever situation he is in and devise a plan that best handles it. He is able to easily infiltrate a fort with his men and free the captive natives being held there and seemingly just as easily done he would later some how manage to wipe out the Colonial Assassin Order leaving only one broken man alive from that group. Haytham prefers to be honest with the members of his order, and later also with his son, in that he will tell them the truth of things as he sees it. When asked about his past with Braddock by a member of the Templars Haytham relates the story without a pause. As he put it, "We are brothers now. There should be no secrets between us."
While he might not always go about it in the correct way, Haytham does try to shape the world into what he believes would be a peaceful place. He looks out for those who agree with him, tricks or eliminates those that do not, all with the thought in mind that eventually this will lead to the greater good, a world without conflict. He can be insensitive and ruthless but with a cause that important he sees the actions he takes as justified.

PROJECTED CLASS:
After looking at the classes I think Haytham would fit best with the Thief/Assassin class. He already possesses many of the skills of assassins since in canon his father was one and he passed on many of those skills to his son. He knows how to pick locks or pockets and is adept at blending into crowds to escape capture. Haytham can get close enough to targets to overhear their conversations without being seen or stealthily end their life. He is a master swordsman but can handle many other kinds of weapons with equal skill. Haytham is a accomplished free runner and can scale the sides of buildings, run across clothes lines with ease, and leap the gaps between roofs to traverse a city without ever touching the ground.

OTHER: Um, nothing I can think of.

[He had by now been able to at least become some what familiar with the workings of this... enchanted gemstone, so his first foray into using the item for communication could be done formally and with some measure of grace. He wouldn't be fumbling with the device over the course of the conversation.]

I am Haytham Kenway. As I have been told we have all been brought here as the product of some kind of legend. The result of a whim of a God resting on the castle's top floor.

[His tone suggested he did not care very much for the legend and his next words no doubt proved that.]

I have no intention of sitting around and waiting for some mythical divine power to show us the way. We might not know this world or the ways of its people but we do have our own skills. I would like to know what you have observed since you arrived. Did you all come through the castle? Have any of you managed to see past the wall to what lies on the other side?

And perhaps most importantly what you intend to do now that you are here? This city has it's own form of regulation, what with the guilds, but that might yet be improved upon. We might be able to shape this city into something even greater than it is.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE
Haytham moved through the marketplace for the moment unaware that he was being stalked. He was new and clearly looked the part. Clothing like his, the colonial style jacket and tricorne hat, did draw attention especially since there was no crowd out to mingle with today. The light rain had driven most honest citizens indoors. Those that were left were either in serious need of fixings for dinner, a new arrival, or up to no good.

The Grand Master became aware of the three men who were tailing him when he stepped around the corner of a booth and caught the reflection of one of their number clearly looking in his direction and sneering in one of the tin pots the owner of the booth was displaying for sale. Really, it was not the most subtle approach. These men were the clumsiest thieves he had ever seen. Still maybe they could be useful for something.

A few more twists and turns saw Haytham exit the market area. He walked slowly yet deliberately towards what he had noticed earlier as a small deserted back lot, casually checking occasionally to make certain he had not lost his tail. If those men were to make their move this deserted location would give them the perfect opportunity.

"Hold it right there! We'll be taking those weapons from you!"

Just as expected, these men were predicable. Haytham turned towards the three thieves and inclined his head to one side as he answered their challenge.

"So that's what this is about, you want the weapons I arrived with?"

The gentle hiss of steel leaving its sheath was followed by several swishes as the air around the blade was swept aside during its dance through the space between him and the would-be thieves. A warm up exercise as so far no blood had been spilled.

"You should be careful what you ask for."
