about applying
If you'd like to apply for a character, you're in the right place! As of June 24, applications are now always open. Fill out one of the two forms on this page depending on the type of character you're applying for and post it in the comments of this entry. While you fill out your application, here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Please read over the rules and FAQ before you begin to fill out your application—This will save you headaches later!
  • Check the taken and reserved pages to make sure that your character isn't listed on either (unless you reserved them, naturally).
  • Please check your application for spelling and grammatical errors. While we're hardly going to reject for a misspelled word or two, a large amount of errors makes us much more likely to reject an application.
  • Plagiarism is unacceptable. If we find an application has been plagiarized, it will result in immediate rejection and a ban from the game.
  • You may app ONE character per round, for a total of THREE characters in the game. You may have two characters from the same canon provided they have little or no interaction in canon.
  • If you're already in the game, all of your current characters must have passed the last AC to apply for a new character. If this is your first character, don't worry about this, of course!
  • When posting your application, please format the subject line of your first comment in some form of Character Name - Series - Reserved/Unreserved in that order. Do not link to your application.
  • Original characters are allowed, but their applications are judged to a much higher standard than canon characters. We want to make sure that the character and their world are thought-out and developed. This isn't meant to discourage such characters in the slightest, so all this really means is take care to explain the world your character comes from especially, since all we have to judge them by is what you tell us!
  • If we ask for a revision, don't worry! Usually we just need clarification on something before we decide on your application. If you are asked for one, you have five days to supply the requested revision.

application for canon characters:

OOC
NAME: Your name.
USERNAME: Your personal Dreamwidth account.
CONTACT: email/aim/[plurk.com profile] plurkname/what have you
CHARACTERS IN GAME: put N/A if none

IC
NAME: Your character's name.
CANON: Your character's canon. Please note the specific canon if the character is from a large franchise (i.e. Marvel Comics vs. Marvel Cinematic Universe) or has different ways the canon can progress (i.e. Fate/Stay Night's routes).
CANON POINT: At what point are you pulling your character from?
AGE: How old is the character?
APPEARANCE: A link to a picture is fine! It's recommended to upload it to Imgur or a similar site to prevent pesky hotlinking images!
PERSONALITY: This is the most important part of your app, so take special care with this section. Describe their personality, and use canon to support this section as needed. While quality is of course more important than quantity, we're likely to ask for a revision if this section is less than three solid paragraphs.
PROJECTED CLASS: Which base class can you see your character having and why? This doesn't need to be more than a paragraph, but we just want to make sure you understand the class system and think about how your character will fit into it!
OTHER: Additional notes/questions about the character go here.

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: Links to threads from previous games, memes and museboxes are allowed, but must be within the past six months.
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE Must take place in the game's setting. 300 words minimum.

WORLD INFO: Explain the world that your character comes from. While we hardly want pages and pages of information, this does need to be a solid section. Relay the parts of the characters world that relate directly to them or have affected them the most. We're looking for evidence that this character is clearly thought out, and in absence of a canon, this section is how we'll be judging your character for consistency.
BACKGROUND: Your character's history/background. This doesn't need to be extensively detailed, but we need to know what made the character who they are today.

Find a guild they said. Would be beneficial they said. Ha; if it were truly that simple. He was beginning, once again, to think he wasn't cut out for this. No, gentlefolk really weren't meant for the wild or any place beyond the Shire's safe haven. Nonetheless, stubborn at the worst of times, Bilbo had set out, in some way, to prove that wrong, but there was only so much a hobbit could do to change what could not be changed, or at least, shouldn't be. He'd believed they'd left the worst of it behind them and maybe that confidence had played some hand in this; with the lot of them nursing injuries and finding comfort in sight of Erebor in the distance, something must have happened. Suddenly. Without warning. He didn't remember a thing, but stranger things had happened. Well, wait, no. Waking up in the lobby of a castle was by far the biggest oddity of this adventure.

He needed to find Gandalf and Thorin and the company. If he was here, surely they mustn't be far, right?

Hmph. So far, the answer seemed to be no. Exhaling long and slow on that thought, he trudged on, glancing this way and that as he went, though perhaps, not so openly, because... – how had he found himself here? Surrounded by such folk? He'd been wandering for quite some time now, weaving through the streets and turning himself around more times than he could count; he had no idea where he was, but wherever it was, it was far less friendly than the places he'd been before. Bustling and rough around the edges, the street itself had numerous stalls lining it and as a result, too many bodies to fill it. He was small and crowded; spending most of his time avoiding being run into, he carefully shied from gazes and continued sidestepping, quickening his steps in hope that he'd find breathing room sooner. However, it was that impatience that got him into trouble.

A patron stepped back from a stall as Bilbo was breezing by and then he wasn't breezing by at all; they collided without any grace and clutching for stability in fear he would fall otherwise, Bilbo found himself with a fistful of the man's coat. It hardly lasted though. He was brushed off and he willingly went with it, swaying only for a moment, two, before regaining his balance. The apology was heavy on his tongue and as his gaze snapped upward, he soon found himself silenced with the glare the man was giving him. Perhaps he deserved some anger for his clumsiness but...

The man was patting his coat pocket though and then... – thief? Bilbo's gaze slid to the side and he was half tempted to look behind himself, because he couldn't possibly be referring to him, could he? He glanced upward again and— “Pardon?” The man's scowl deepened and then there was that word again, said with far more disdain than anything Bilbo had ever been on the other end of. It was the area. Dirty, low and wanting, the slums bred criminals and pickpocketers, and perhaps someone had gotten to this man long before Bilbo had crossed his path; of course, Bilbo was unaware of the mismatched blame and he could offer no explanation other than a silent, scandalized flop of his mouth, followed by a forced, “... No. No, no, I'll have you know, I have nev—never stolen a thing in my life.” The words were familiar in a way and once again, he was reminded that he really needed to find the company, especially because the words weren't as true as they had once been and he was quite certain his own realization on the matter was showing on his face.

The next few minutes were a blur.

The man had grabbed for him at one point and it was only sheer luck that Bilbo had lurched out of his reach by a mere inch or two; there was running, some scrambling and as opposed to before, his small stature came in handy. He'd disappeared between people and around corners, enough to gain a lead on his pursuer, but skidding into a much emptier street some ways away and the sound of nearing footsteps behind him, Bilbo was suddenly at a loss. He couldn't outrun someone twice his size. He wasn't even certain he could outrun someone his size, actually. Hiding was the best option and in a fit of panic, his eyes suddenly fell on a lid. A sewer lid. Dirty, dank, dark... he didn't belong inside there.

Except... – swallowing thickly, he glanced over his shoulder and then stalling for such silly reasons didn't seem any wiser. Adrenaline was the only explanation as to how he lifted the lid up and managed to get it back over himself as he hopped down into the hole. And yes, it was as dirty and dank and dark as he'd thought, but more fearful of what was above than down below, he climbed lower, just in case he needed to keep his lead, and...

Hm. This wasn't a sewer at all, was it?
