about applying
If you'd like to apply for a character, you're in the right place! As of June 24, applications are now always open. Fill out one of the two forms on this page depending on the type of character you're applying for and post it in the comments of this entry. While you fill out your application, here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Please read over the rules and FAQ before you begin to fill out your application—This will save you headaches later!
  • Check the taken and reserved pages to make sure that your character isn't listed on either (unless you reserved them, naturally).
  • Please check your application for spelling and grammatical errors. While we're hardly going to reject for a misspelled word or two, a large amount of errors makes us much more likely to reject an application.
  • Plagiarism is unacceptable. If we find an application has been plagiarized, it will result in immediate rejection and a ban from the game.
  • You may app ONE character per round, for a total of THREE characters in the game. You may have two characters from the same canon provided they have little or no interaction in canon.
  • If you're already in the game, all of your current characters must have passed the last AC to apply for a new character. If this is your first character, don't worry about this, of course!
  • When posting your application, please format the subject line of your first comment in some form of Character Name - Series - Reserved/Unreserved in that order. Do not link to your application.
  • Original characters are allowed, but their applications are judged to a much higher standard than canon characters. We want to make sure that the character and their world are thought-out and developed. This isn't meant to discourage such characters in the slightest, so all this really means is take care to explain the world your character comes from especially, since all we have to judge them by is what you tell us!
  • If we ask for a revision, don't worry! Usually we just need clarification on something before we decide on your application. If you are asked for one, you have five days to supply the requested revision.

IC
NAME: Lithuania
CANON: Axis Powers Hetalia
CANON POINT: May 2013
AGE: appears ~19, is actually ~1000-2000 depending on where you start counting
APPEARANCE: click
PERSONALITY: Lithuania is gentle and patient--maybe even a pushover at times, prone to placation and compromise, willing to and able to endure a great deal. However, beneath this is a proud, stubborn nation, comfortable with himself and his duties. He's the young, cautious, chivalrous knight all grown up.

Just about anyone first meeting Lithuania would find him incredibly easy to get along with. Lithuania is very polite and friendly, willing to help out when he can. He seems to have near-infinite patience when it comes to most people, and certainly tries to see the best in those around him. And, it should be stated, he really is like that. It's just not all of him.

Lithuania is introverted. Most of the time, however, you won't know this. Lithuania is old enough to know how to handle a social situation in spite of it often exhausting him, and as such of the three Baltics Lithuania is the best at dealing with people smoothly. Still, he's prone to sneaking off on his own to wind down, and most of his hobbies are solitary, quiet ones.

However, he's not perfect. Lithuania is prone to distraction and impulsiveness at times. Often he'll be off daydreaming in the middle of a conversation and end up blurting out something he doesn't mean for the other person to hear--usually something far more blunt and rude than he'd ever intentionally tell them. They're not untrue things, though; he's more likely to accidentally offend someone he dislikes, which doesn't make the situation much better.

Lithuania's patience and optimism regarding people is well-known. Poland is often bossy and difficult to get along with, but Lithuania somehow manages to maintain a friendship with him. Lithuania also maintains a crush on Belarus. While she strikes others as obsessively interested in Russia and terrifying besides, none of this seems to even register to Lithuania, even when she's breaking his fingers. Indeed, when Lithuania wants to see the good in someone, he will see it near-exclusively, past the point where others would give up.

That's not, to say, that he is actually a pushover. He does have that first impression, and he is willing to bend on various matters to make things easier. Really, though, he's quite proud, and there are things he will not budge on. When these limits are reached, Lithuania becomes much more difficult to deal with--often he will go out of his way to make things more difficult. Push Lithuania too far and he will fight you and not stop until he's gotten what he wants or he literally cannot fight. This doesn't always express itself as a physical attack, although it can; Lithuania is patient. If it seems as if he isn't fighting when he should be, he's waiting for opportunity.

Hanging over a lot of this application is the matter of Russia, who held Lithuania for hundreds of years, both as Imperial Russia and Soviet Russia. While he's free now, his time with Russia was not pleasant for him. He's scared of Russia, and for good reasons. Soviet Russia, especially, was not the most stable or gentle. Lithuania acted as something of a cross between maid and personal secretary for Russia (often Lithuania is seen in the strips trailing behind Russia with various papers), and while he did not enjoy any of this, there was little he could do at the time (of course, he did try; Lithuania was known for being quite rebellious throughout his occupation). It's little wonder, then, that Russia will cause shaking and nervousness. Lithuania's dealings with Russia are a bit complicated; there is a lot of anger and resentment there, but whether or not Lithuania will say he hates the other nation depends on the day and his mood.

Poland is also of importance in Lithaunia's personality and history in general. They've been neighbors for hundreds of years, and once they shared a Commonwealth between them. Poland is pushy and bossy, but Lithuania is patient and forgiving. Still, that's not to say they always get along. Saying they argue like an old married couple might not be entirely incorrect: when they do get into fights, and it does happen, they're often very dramatic ones. Poland is proof that Lithuania's patience is not actually limitless, but he's also proof that Lithuania is capable of a great deal of forgiveness at times. While they aren't as close now as they were once, they are still friends, although it's more a matter of Lithuania and Poland the people being friends, rather than Lithuania and Poland the nations. Lithuania is much less likely to put up with Poland's bossiness lately, and so this does lead to friction between them. Still, when they're not dealing with politics and serious issues, they can spend time together doing silly, inconsequential things. Still, Poland is very good at making Lithuania worry.

Worrying, incidentally, is something Lithuania does often as a general rule. He often complains of stomachaches, and these are a direct result of the stress of worrying about nearly everything. He can be rather fussy when it comes to people he cares about, even mothering at times, and when he decides something needs to be done he's going to worry about it until it's complete. It's when he's worrying about things he can't fix that he starts to make himself sick, and it often expresses itself in compulsive cleaning or general bursts of activity. Lithuania doesn't like not being able to do anything about his problems.

All of this does point to a person used to going out and accomplishing things, and this is never better-expressed than on a battlefield. Lithuania has what's best described as an "aura" during a fight. His normal mild, somewhat nervous attitude changes to one that's confident, in control, occasionally even vicious. Raising morale and leading an army into battle are things Lithuania can do as easily as breathing, and it's hard at times to believe he's the same person. It's the greatest expression of Lithuania's proud nature. He has a strong sense of duty to his people that guides everything he does, and a fight is a very clear, simple expression of this. He fights with all he has because his people need him to fight.

Indeed, duty and loyalty are very important to Lithuania. As a country he has been through a great deal of hardship, and in this time he's become very aware of what's important to him. He is willing to forgive because once someone has endeared themselves to him he will remain loyal. He has a very well-worn set of priorities that he adheres to. It's not something he thinks about at this point, it's just what he does.

Lithuania has been through a lot of difficult, troubling things. However, he isn't one to dwell on that sort of thing if he can avoid it. Sure, he worried about things that might happen or are happening, but he does believe in the future. Lithuania believes very strongly that if you endure and push and fight for it, things will get better. In times of trouble, this is what he falls back on--he will endure this, and it will get better. Whatever may happen, Lithuania will endure.

Lithuania's gentleness and pleasant nature is in part a result of this: you can't be miserable all the time. That's letting your enemy win, too, in a way. Lithuania can find happiness in bad places. That's not to say he's happy with the surrounding situation, simply that he won't allow the situation to take control of him.

Lithuania is indeed quite proud. Not selfish or mean, but he believes in his people and therefore in himself. It's why there are things Lithuania will not stand for: his people deserve happiness, he deserves what he has fought for, and he will not stand to see that taken unjustly. He will react very strongly to that sort of thing, and he will do what he believes is necessary to take back what he lost.

Lithuania is not a large country now, but there was a time when he was the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the largest country in Europe. Lithuania fought hard to reach that, an urge born out of his desperate need to defend his people from the attacks that were coming on all sides. Lithuania as a tribe became Lithuania as a country because of this; he formed a Commonwealth with Poland for similar reasons. His own feelings don't matter as much as those of his people.

At times Lithuania takes action that could be called selfish, and maybe it is. It's not a matter of selfishness, though; it's duty. Lithuania will serve his people above all else, and he doesn't hide that fact. If Lithuania does something that could be considered selfish or ruthless, it is because he has decided it's what his people need. It's not that Lithuania's moral code rearranges itself for his people, it's that Lithuania's highest code is "I will serve my people to the best of my ability".

Lithuania is the oldest of what could be called a trio: himself, Estonia, and Latvia make up the Baltic region currently. Occasionally they are mistaken for siblings, but they aren't really; if you were to call them anything, it would be cousins. And for quite some time they were more like strangers than anything, usually polite but occasionally clashing. It's the Soviet times that really taught them to work together as a group and support each other in gaining independence. Lately they have a great deal of interconnected systems, and even though Latvia is a bit lonely, Estonia would rather be considered Nordic, and Lithuania's often distracted by Poland, they'll be there for each other when it counts; they've learned there are times when they have to be.

Overall, Lithuania is a very nice person, easy to talk to and friendly to just about everyone, if rather nervous and unsure. Beneath this, though, is a confident nation when it comes to knowing what he wants. He's fought to get what he has, and he's proud of that, though there's no need to be rude about it. He's always thinking about how to increase and maintain happiness, which leads to his worrying. Still, he's very close to normal as far as nations go, and he's a good friend to have.
PROJECTED CLASS: I believe Lithuania's best fit is the paladin class. While knight would probably be more thematically appropriate as far as class names go, paladin fits Lithuania's style in a far better manner. Paladins fight with swords, are quicker on their feet, and in general seem to be more closely matching Lithuania's philosophy and style.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE Lithuania wasn't entirely certain what he'd expected out of "guild missions", but guarding someone's garden wasn't it. It wasn't even a particularly well-maintained garden, in Lithuania's opinion--though maybe he'd arrived at that decision only after the fourth or fifth hour of leaning against the fence observing it. Of course he'd been polite enough about accepting the job; the other options for his rank seemed about the same quality, so he doubted anyone else with his level of experience was having a more riveting time.

The carrots were so unevenly spaced, though, and it was starting to bother him a lot more than it really should be. He had the sudden, ridiculous thought to reorganize the plot of land entirely, but somehow he didn't think transplanting dozens and dozens of plants a few inches to the left or right of where they already were would be appreciated, even if the work would have given him something productive to do.

The rustling sound in the bushes not far off, therefore, is enough to draw his full attention. Nothing has happened for hours--maybe someone really was coming to steal cabbages or maim the cucumbers?

It was a rabbit. Which he could have expected, really.

"Go on, shoo," Lithuania said, sounding a tough exasperated in spite of himself. The rabbit, meanwhile, ignored him entirely--sparing him a wary glance before taking cautious inches toward the vegetables. "Hey! Go on, go get food somewhere else!"

Lithuania took a few steps forward and the thing ran off, finally. His adventure for the night, apparently. Maybe he'd wasted it too quickly. After making sure there wasn't anything else in the bushes waiting for his inattention, Lithuania returned to his previous post and drew his sword. The weight was familiar, even though this sword wasn't one he'd used at home. It was--interesting, to put one to common use again.

Not that he'd be getting into many fights worth using it with bunnies. Still, he began going through a few simple moves, fighting the air with ease and familiarity. A stab there, a sweeping strike here, a dodge and a shuffling sort of block--Lithuania's mind filled in his imaginary partner's steps and he reacted accordingly.

So he didn't notice the next rabbit until it was almost at the carrots. That was why he'd ended up tripping over the fence and landing face-first in the dirt. But that did scare the rabbit away.

NAME: Your character's name.
CANON: Shitsurakuen
CANON POINT: Post-Canon
AGE: 21
APPEARANCE: Pictured here
PERSONALITY: Koharu embodies many of the so-called 'princess' ideals. She's pretty, kind-hearted, mothering, self-sacrificing, somewhat servile and a fairly good cook. While she doesn't trust easily persay, she trusts completely. She has faith in Sora and she takes a lot of her strength from that. She's clearly the type of girl who is destined to be a follower, not a leader. She likes helping others and takes a good measure of her self-worth from that. Her affection for those who help her is clear and she has no qualms about showing that affection. In fact she can be a bit too affectionate at times, but that has calmed down somewhat at her age. Time has lent her a more mature charm and a grace she lacked as a teenager.

She was caught up in Sora's quest for justice not because she has the determination to right wrongs, but because Sora does and she believes in Sora and her ideals with all her heart. Since Sora saved her, every action Koharu has taken has to further Sora's ideas and to make life easier for her. Whether that involves looking up things, cooking, cleaning or producing her weapon for Sora when she is fighting, she has devoted herself entirely to her knight and will always defend what Sora does. Not having her friends here to help will make her falter a bit, but she'll just dedicate that determination to her new friends and hope they can find a way home.

It doesn't mean that she won't instruct Sora as she gives direction and tries to make sure Sora is hurt as little as possible. She doesn't mind when the backlash hits her though, because the pain is for Sora and can be beared. Her only true fears were men and the power they exerted over her in Exa Clan. But slowly, she has gained the strength of will to stand up to them, to fight for herself as she did after Sora's weapons were captured. Though, it appears she didn't really learn much about standing up for herself. In the end, she even blames herself for the way she treated her original 'owner' and apologizes to him. Though perhaps, it was her own way of standing up for herself. She had feelings that she knew others wouldn't approve of and she knew he would react harshly to her kind words. That he would most likely think her silly or naive. She admits that feeling wanted by him, in that he kept battling Sora to win her back, was desirable. It made her happy--like perhaps beneath the cruel way he treated her there was a real sentiment. After all the pain he put her through, Koharu was somewhat attached to him too. She can take risks, small ones, if she believes that her feelings are important and need to be heard.

Once she trusts people, she makes friends fairly easily, looking for their good points. She can even be completely blind to the faults, preferring the idealized image. If a friend was putting up a smiling happy front, Koharu would accept it completely. That isn't to say that she lacks empathy. Familiarity with her friends finds the cracks in their facades and she wants to know how they feel and if she can help lift their moods. She forgives easily, preferring to trust others as allies rather than hold grudges. It's easier to forgive and push things to the past, as she generally loathes confrontations and harsh words. In fact she may completely lack the ability to hold a grudge, seeing as she forgave the boy who abused her as a student.
PROJECTED CLASS: Merchant; While Koharu might be interested in a class that heals, like the oracle, a fear of holding others back from winning a mission or getting ahead in their classes will guide her towards a non-combat role. Being a merchant is similar enough to the jobs back home that she would settle into it easier than any other class. She would enjoy selling and interacting with people, though her nature would probably mean she wouldn't turn very much of a profit.
This is role isn't set in stone though, as anyone guiding or pushing her in the game towards a particular class will probably have a significant effect on what she comes out as. One of her flaws is her likeliness to follow others and a dislike of saying no.
OTHER: None!

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE Flipping a sign from closed to open, Koharu props open the door to catch the morning breeze. It's an old habit that make her sweep the stoop in front of her shop door and a new one that has her tilting the potions in her window to catch the light. It's a slow start to the day, like it always is, with the bustle waiting until the dew has dried.

She carries a little of everything in her shop, by necessity really. She's too new to specialize quite yet and it's easier to get things here and there than worry herself over finding all the types of a particular item. Sure, her potions sell better than the little selection of clothes, but the styles she like really doesn't sell well here. Things from home stand out. She doesn't mind. Someone from home might come and see and buy something that reminds them of what they used to wear. Cute skirts. delicate tops--really things only other merchants or the dancers could afford to wear with all the fighting outside the walls--but styles from home nonetheless.

She passes an hour rearranging the contents of her wide wooden shelves and with the door propped open, the small cough at her back catches her off guard atop a ladder with an arm full of scrolls. Glancing over her shoulder as best as she can, she nearly jumps to find a palading in full armor standing just behind her. Shoot, she has to put these down without messing up the order she had started--but she has to attend to her customer as quickly as possibly. She bites her tongue to keep from babbling and smiles.

"Oh, I forgot I didn't have the bell at the door to warn me. Give me just a moment." He waves it off as she quickly just pushes everything aside to climb down. He's in and out and off with a dozen potions--a very nice start to her day--and she gives the shelf a glance. A mess again, her haphazard throwing ruined what she had started. Smiling, even as she sighs, she lifts her skirt to start up the ladder again.

NAME: Bilbo Baggins
CANON: The Hobbit {Cinematic Universe}
CANON POINT: Post!Unexpected Journey
AGE: 50
APPEARANCE: Picture
PERSONALITY:
A Baggins of Bag End. Respectable. Usual. Never doing anything that one wouldn't expect, thus never, well, doing much of anything outside of living comfortably, quietly. Hobbits in general keep to their borders and shy away from the business of the outside world, much preferring to fuss over food and drink and their small town sensibilities than become involved in what the bigger folk are currently quarreling over. For the most part, Bilbo shares this sentiment by having long since buried his childhood fantasties of adventure and travel, but then a wizard and a group of dwarves infiltrate his home and well, he remembers, a little. A lot. Enough to have him running out his door.

There's quite a bit of spontaneity to Bilbo, even if he tries to say otherwise – and when it does show up, it's only a result of his Took side, thank you – and faint as it is to his own eyes, he has bravery in him. That isn't to say he isn't afraid – he is most of the time, actually – but when given a task, whether he likes it or not, he ends up playing along to do what needs to be done. Surprising, perhaps, seeing as he's quite stubborn and determined not to get involved in anything remotely dangerous or messy; see, he has backbone and isn't opposed to stating his opinion, but it tends to show up only after a round of pleasantries. He wants to be nice to others. He's been brought up to be polite and welcoming, but that sociability is easier to maintain with, say, other hobbits who harbor the same sort of hospitality. Bilbo, however, is finding that Gandalf and more so dwarves are more in-tune with saying what's on their mind much more bluntly. It takes some time, but Bilbo does have a habit of becoming riled up and while there is still that semi-pleasant flare to his words, he gets bossy and short and final. Not that anyone ever listens to him, but.

He fidgets and gestures a lot. Straightening his jacket. Fiddling with his pockets. Hand clenching. Pointing. Wringing his fingers. Shifting. He's very animated when he talks and he's quite fond of making faces to personify his thoughts, which in turn, makes him very open, unwilling as it is. He's forthright and easy to read, for the most part; it's very difficult for him to, convincingly, be dishonest. There is a small, smidgeon of a lying bone in his body, but his falsehoods are jumbled and awkward, only seeming to work on those not quite... intelligent enough to realize he's thinking on his feet – for example, his buying time with the trolls and stealing the ring from Gollum, though even Gollum figured him out. He's clever, but even then, he tends to fall into such ingenuity. It's almost as though he stumbles into it and then tries to run with the idea, even as he's stuttering and fumbling through the words. It's as Gandalf said; there's a lot more to Bilbo than appearances suggest, but without the experience to back him up, Bilbo's natural wit and resourcefulness may take time to develop and be fine-tuned. He'll get there, however. Hopefully.

For how sheltered those within the Shire are, Bilbo is quite trusting. Though maybe that's why he is. There isn't a great deal to fear in the Shire and for the most part, people get along well enough, so when dwarf after dwarf show up on his doorstep, Bilbo doesn't react as he probably should. There's suspicion and a great deal of unease, but he lets – when they barge in – the dwarves into his home and then proceeds to feed them – Dwalin, at least, the rest do it themselves. They're strangers to him; strangers with weapons, and yet his biggest fit shown is him, politely, trying to let them down easy and request they leave. Even so, when Gandalf shows up and everything is revealed, he still runs off to join these strangers on a quest. He puts a great deal of trust in them and becomes loyal to their cause – aside from a momentary hiccup – and despite how, brash the dwarves are toward him in the beginning, Thorin in particular, he doesn't let that affect his affinity. He risks his life, actually; foolishly throwing himself at an orc, he buys time for a wounded Thorin, seemingly willing to put whatever he has into the quest he shouldn't be so devoted to. It says a lot about his nature, and how despite how he feels incapable of doing great deeds or facing down anything remotely fearsome, his need to help others outweighs any ill-givings he's had to endure.

Following that thought, it can be said that he's very resilient. He complains at times – he still misses his handkerchief, okay? – but he does surprisingly well for someone who's lived in comfort all his life. Sleeping on the ground in a new place every night, walking all day, barely eating, living in the same clothes and giving up a daily rinse... yes, maybe the wild isn't for gentlefolk, but Bilbo tries. So maybe he'll become an adventurer yet; he just needs the time and opportunity to prove it.

PROJECTED CLASS: Thief; Gambler.

Bilbo is hardly a thief as he is now, but he has it in him. Well. Maybe. He's hired – or more heavily forced – into becoming a burglar for a band of dwarves; that foolhardiness, aided with the natural lightness in his steps and the cleverness of his mind make him, somewhat, qualified. I wouldn't say he's agile, but he has quite a bit of luck on his side and he's brave, or perhaps fearful of disappointing those who depend on him is a better way of saying it, because he's often coerced into completing tasks his otherwise “respectable” reputation would protest, such as stealing back ponies from a group of trolls. Now, Bilbo doesn't seem like the sort to want to join this particular guild; he's far too... not unsavory to be associated with such a place, right? Nonetheless, he doesn't seem to fit in the other guilds – aside from Academic – and seeing as he's meant to be a burglar for his company, he'd inevitably convince himself that learning how to be a better thief might not be such a bad thing. He is meant to, eventually, steal from a dragon after all.

OTHER:
Just double checking; the one ring to rule them all Bilbo has in his possession, it won't allow invisibility anymore? It's just a regular ring?

Find a guild they said. Would be beneficial they said. Ha; if it were truly that simple. He was beginning, once again, to think he wasn't cut out for this. No, gentlefolk really weren't meant for the wild or any place beyond the Shire's safe haven. Nonetheless, stubborn at the worst of times, Bilbo had set out, in some way, to prove that wrong, but there was only so much a hobbit could do to change what could not be changed, or at least, shouldn't be. He'd believed they'd left the worst of it behind them and maybe that confidence had played some hand in this; with the lot of them nursing injuries and finding comfort in sight of Erebor in the distance, something must have happened. Suddenly. Without warning. He didn't remember a thing, but stranger things had happened. Well, wait, no. Waking up in the lobby of a castle was by far the biggest oddity of this adventure.

He needed to find Gandalf and Thorin and the company. If he was here, surely they mustn't be far, right?

Hmph. So far, the answer seemed to be no. Exhaling long and slow on that thought, he trudged on, glancing this way and that as he went, though perhaps, not so openly, because... – how had he found himself here? Surrounded by such folk? He'd been wandering for quite some time now, weaving through the streets and turning himself around more times than he could count; he had no idea where he was, but wherever it was, it was far less friendly than the places he'd been before. Bustling and rough around the edges, the street itself had numerous stalls lining it and as a result, too many bodies to fill it. He was small and crowded; spending most of his time avoiding being run into, he carefully shied from gazes and continued sidestepping, quickening his steps in hope that he'd find breathing room sooner. However, it was that impatience that got him into trouble.

A patron stepped back from a stall as Bilbo was breezing by and then he wasn't breezing by at all; they collided without any grace and clutching for stability in fear he would fall otherwise, Bilbo found himself with a fistful of the man's coat. It hardly lasted though. He was brushed off and he willingly went with it, swaying only for a moment, two, before regaining his balance. The apology was heavy on his tongue and as his gaze snapped upward, he soon found himself silenced with the glare the man was giving him. Perhaps he deserved some anger for his clumsiness but...

The man was patting his coat pocket though and then... – thief? Bilbo's gaze slid to the side and he was half tempted to look behind himself, because he couldn't possibly be referring to him, could he? He glanced upward again and— “Pardon?” The man's scowl deepened and then there was that word again, said with far more disdain than anything Bilbo had ever been on the other end of. It was the area. Dirty, low and wanting, the slums bred criminals and pickpocketers, and perhaps someone had gotten to this man long before Bilbo had crossed his path; of course, Bilbo was unaware of the mismatched blame and he could offer no explanation other than a silent, scandalized flop of his mouth, followed by a forced, “... No. No, no, I'll have you know, I have nev—never stolen a thing in my life.” The words were familiar in a way and once again, he was reminded that he really needed to find the company, especially because the words weren't as true as they had once been and he was quite certain his own realization on the matter was showing on his face.

The next few minutes were a blur.

The man had grabbed for him at one point and it was only sheer luck that Bilbo had lurched out of his reach by a mere inch or two; there was running, some scrambling and as opposed to before, his small stature came in handy. He'd disappeared between people and around corners, enough to gain a lead on his pursuer, but skidding into a much emptier street some ways away and the sound of nearing footsteps behind him, Bilbo was suddenly at a loss. He couldn't outrun someone twice his size. He wasn't even certain he could outrun someone his size, actually. Hiding was the best option and in a fit of panic, his eyes suddenly fell on a lid. A sewer lid. Dirty, dank, dark... he didn't belong inside there.

Except... – swallowing thickly, he glanced over his shoulder and then stalling for such silly reasons didn't seem any wiser. Adrenaline was the only explanation as to how he lifted the lid up and managed to get it back over himself as he hopped down into the hole. And yes, it was as dirty and dank and dark as he'd thought, but more fearful of what was above than down below, he climbed lower, just in case he needed to keep his lead, and...

Hm. This wasn't a sewer at all, was it?

IC
NAME: Ada Vessalius
CANON: Pandora Hearts (manga)
CANON POINT: Post Chapter 54
AGE: 18
APPEARANCE: here!

PERSONALITY: Ada was born the younger of Zai Vessalius’ two children, but later became the elder after her brother Oz spent his time trapped in the Abyss. But Ada wasn’t so much raised by her father as she was by her Uncle Oscar. Nonetheless she was raised to be a proper noblewoman. That meant attending social gatherings and creating and maintaining a good image fit for the Vessalius Dukedom. In reality, Ada is a genuinely sweet-natured girl. She does not seem to allow herself to be personally affected by her social status either way personality-wise. Rather, Ada is an honest person whose face and eyes easily portray what she’s feeling. She is also rather intelligent; enough so to have earned the status of prefect in the private school which she attends. But it isn’t simply book smarts. Ada is also a very perceptive and empathetic young woman, who isn’t so easily fooled. The people around her mean a great deal to her and she worries a great deal for those who are closest to her. For those closest to her, she is willing to risk her life fighting for them even if she lacks the skills and abilities to do so. Even so, if there is a way to avoid fighting, that would be her preference, being a rather peaceful hearted young woman. That makes her also a rather ideal mediator when tensions arise.

Even when things are darkest, there is always a spark of optimism that remains with Ada, that drives her to try her best to do whatever she can in that situation to help. And while she is a fairly obedient young girl in most things, she continues to see the man she loves despite her family not accepting him, proving that she also knows when to stand firm in her own beliefs and for the sake of the things she truly wants. She doesn’t act blindly, but rather, wishes to act in the best interest of the people she cares about, as well as her own best interests, although she seems to often put other’s interests before her own.

She can be easily flustered by certain things such as close contact, flattering speech, and affectionate words or actions. But she is also a fairly affectionate young woman who sees and accepts both the good and bad in people. While she is rather perceptive of other people, she isn’t always right and can jump to conclusions when excited. However, she isn’t the type to judge people on appearances, first impressions, or the words of others. She looks at people closely and judges them for herself, looking deeper than the surface. While Ada tries to always see the best in others, she isn’t blind to people’s faults either, but rather finds ways of accepting those things.

But it is because her image is so important that her relationship with the man she loves and wishes to always be beside is not recognized and why she must hide her love for the occult. Her hobby of studying and immersing herself into the occult is a secret she shares with almost no one and her things are confined to the basement of the secondary mansion her Uncle gave to her; out of the eyes of the public. While it seems she receives things from her classmates on the subject, it seems to be something she hides quite diligently from most. She doesn’t even tell the man she’s dating despite having thought he was also interested in such things, until provoked to show her ‘true self’. And when he reacts badly at first, you can see that there is a part of her that fears her true self being rejected by the people she cares about, which could explain why she’s so reluctant to share it with others. But even so, it’s shown that she had always had some interest in dark, unusual stories even when she was a little kid, listening to stories that were normally meant to frighten children into behaving.

Because she worries for the people closes to her so and also because she lost her brother at such a young age, Ada doesn’t want to be alone. When her brother disappeared into the Abyss, even though she was young, she too did what she could to try and help find a way to save him. And when he returned the same age he had been when he left and she had grown older than him, she feared that he wouldn’t recognize her, or that he might reject her.

So despite being so strong willed, Ada is actually rather fearful of not being accepted. That and the fear of losing those close to her are probably her two greatest fears. While on the other hand, danger itself doesn’t scare her nearly as much, despite her lack of strength or fighting ability.

PROJECTED CLASS: Mage. Without question, Ada is meant to wield magic. Her love for the occult will drive Ada to choose magic first. In her mind, nothing else comes close. It will be a class that she will love and have great interest in and a strong desire to work at it and grow more proficient with it. It also suits her for the fact that she’s not strong physically, although her personality and canon point would drive her to want to choose something she can fight with. It’s likely she’ll choose Shaman when given the next choice.

FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: threads

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE The desk was covered with an assortment of books, all gathered single-handedly by the eager looking girl preparing to sit herself down behind the desk. At a glance, there appeared to be no less than ten books of varying sizes and titles at her disposal, but Ada knew the real number was twelve. In her mind, she was… ‘starting small’. But in all, she had already come a far way from the dazed and confused girl who landed herself in Castle Dyspros, blankly staring at the ornate doors and tracing the pattern with one finger as she tried to piece things together.

In the time between when she had gathered all the details and now, Ada had made a number of decisions. The first was that she wanted to be here for the time being. And the second most notable was that she wanted to join one of the guilds in order to strengthen herself. With her last memories before she came here on repeat in her mind, she knew that she wanted to do something… to change in some way so that she could go back just a little more able and a little less powerless. That was the wish she sought to see granted.

Simple it may be, but it was as important as anything to her. And it was as much for the people she loved as it was for herself.

And when she had the choice - she couldn’t say no the prospect of the Mages’ Guild. The moment she heard of it, her heart was decided on it. The giddy way she paged through the books on magic attested to her great enthusiasm. “I’ve studied this kind of thing for so long… but who ever imagined I’d really be doing this?” She giggles happily and turns the page once more, eyes scanning over the page with wonder. “Vincent would be so shocked if he knew.” Again, she giggles, but this time because she can almost imagine the look on his face.

Too bad she’s blind to just how much horror would be (poorly) hidden behind his surprise.

CANON: Homestuck.
CANON POINT: Act 6, Intermission 5.
AGE: 16.
APPEARANCE:
OFFICIAL ART. FANART.

PERSONALITY:
Dave Strider — to put it simply — is a cool kid. Whether it's a question if he was born with it and his "bro" (unironically called Bro) taught him the ways of the Strider (knowing he'll live up to his name, of course), or even if the cool come directly packaged in his diaper when he landed with that meteor on earth; we might never know, we don't care to know, we don't want to know, because Dave is the chillest kid there is and that's all there is to say on the matter, really.

...Only not exactly. No one can just call Dave Strider a cool kid and be done with it like so, for there is a lot more to this truculent boy than meets the eye. Supposedly, meet him in the eye and he'll flip you off in the most subtle way possible, anyway. The shocking truth that pertains to cool and all its surrounding factors, is that it is a protruding obsession. Should Dave Strider be the embodiment of cool, one can only assume his obsession with it, that has brought him thus far, is overwhelming as it is. Dave can be found in situations repeatedly in which he A) sweeps unsuspecting friends and acquaintances off their feet, B) slaps them in the face despite their intricate personality, or C) offending them like no tomorrow just to spite them for reasons of dislike/amusement. Examples for the aforesaid could stem from A = Jade Harley's constant pampering of his attitude, B = calling Tavros Nitram and his typing toolish, and C = annoying Karkat Vantas with his overall existence. He might not be the most hyper, emotionally-open teenager, but he is certainly not the most stoic and apathetic. He's found time by time expressing himself through various mediums, and his facial expressions should be enough to convince a person of his mood. His voice is most certainly loud enough to get his point across, without a doubt. The eccentricity that embeds itself in his text messages is obvious, if one has the chance to talk to him. Nevertheless, it's inevitable that one might feel intimidated by his speech, which is undoubtedly fine by him. Feeling winded? Good. Play along, and he'll absorb the positive feedback; his brain gathers all the swoons and '1S TH1S YOU's and practically tells his body to type words out accordingly, like it's all perfected in some "cool kid" manner. He might even smart-alec his way through a convo with anybody that's upset with him, shockingly. And yet, it's hard to believe that with such great cool-osity comes great responsibility, because frankly, it doesn't. Dave's just doing his thing, and if any of his decisions affect the future, past, or present, it's his own fault — fit with emotions that get in the way and people that misunderstand; and he knows it.
TG: i mean dont get me wrong i think its cool and all
TG: the semi-ironic puppet thing or whatever
TG: or semi-semi ironic
TG: man i dont even know
TG: im just starting to think some of this shit is going a little far and its kind of fucked up

What starts at the beginning of the comic as Dave continues to idolize Bro in a way which he's shrouded himself so far into the translucent irony, grows into something else. He starts to notice that maybe everything doesn't transpire on a one-way street, and cool isn't in total a hollow subject matter. While he does find himself glorifying the name of his Bro to his semi-unaware friends, he also sees that it's not necessarily what he wants. He strives for something more, to be better, to win. This all comes back to the later pages of the comic, when he admits that he's not a hero. Because the definition of hero is someone who sacrifices all for the sake of humanity, and he's just tried his whole life to simply win a dumb one-on-one battle. However, he denies himself credit. The fact that he cares about his Bro's death, and lets it affect him (Re: him laying on the ground and not getting up), shows that he's more caring than he puts out. And arguably, the true aspects of a hero lie within who they are, and not what they do.

In all of Dave's long-winded speeches to his friends, tinted with a hint of genuine feelings and aloofness, he attempts and succeeds to maintain notable attributes to his personality, such as being ironic. With irony (as expected by this metaphor), it's hard to know when he's laying his cards face-up or face-down. Dave Strider's got something underneath the caked layers of ironic attitude and cool persona, but he is not willing to unveal it right away. Most certainly not to anyone at random. Peck if one may, at the mask that holds him together, and one might find it slipping, just a bit. Should he be insensitive due to his elusiveness, note that he is not necessarily aware. People, by far, do not tend to discover that Dave's more than just an insufferable prick with a gorgeous look. Why? Because he does not let them. He would actually prefer not to, because deep down, he's a considerate boy. To stop people he loves from getting into the mess of things, cut them off at the source. Play it safe, play it cool. He'll keep to himself, he'll act seclusive. Oddly enough, music (for one thing) encourages this — he expresses himself with beats and raps and all those little Adam Young-like gadgets and gizmos; he'd purposely reach outside his boundaries that way than directly. It is said that he feels through the music, which is why he's so obsessed with rapping in everyone's face and not spilling his gut through his red courier text straight-on.
TG: no thisll be dope check it
EB: no, i have to go! bye!
TG: wait wait

However, despite the fact that Dave's nearly convinced himself he's cool, it is believed that he is — to put it straight — not quite. He can actually act like a astute dork. It's obvious through his wavering style — referencing obscure shit that nobody understands, rolling with the whole "douche kid" deal, making jokes that seem a little too forced, a little too dumb, a little too evasive. He's found himself under piles of puppet ass for pete's sake, and if a rapping white roof ninja called Bro can kick his ass by will, then Dave's still got a lot to learn in the way of the Strider.

There's (probably) a saying that every cool kid has their weakness. For Dave, the most obvious answer is death. Dave's continuous encounters with death have proved that not only does he not want to oscillate anywhere near bodies that prove to be rambunctious in his subconscious, but it's a question as to whether he doesn't exactly know how to cope or is just a bit taken aback with shock. He shares his grief in an odd manner, telling Terezi "fuck that" when told to get up after doing a literal flip off the ninja sword. He doesn't seem to want to explain any of his underlying feelings to his friends, adding to his indrawn nature.

TG: i am just saying
TG: if i see one more soft bulbous bottom being like
TG: kind of jutting out and impudent or whatever
TG: im gonna fly off the handle
TG: im gonna do some sort of acrobatic fucking PIROUETTE off the handle and win like a medal or some shit

Time to talk emotions. The boy's built himself up, and it is probably in question whether he truly knows it or not. Whenever Dave slips up, or makes a glaringly obvious mistake, he really sort of loses it — and it's usually to something that would deter his cool-osity, like puppets. He's usually a calm and collected 16 year-old boy, even when he deals with reality-altering situations like aliens, or just the general supernatural paranormal (or rather, what appears to others as he plays the game). Dave tries to claim a handle on most of this, trying to prove his level-headedness. He's quick to reject bullshit and he definitely tries to avoid falling short to others that don't believe in him. It's hard though — not being a kid and growing up, although that could be the case — it's hard standing tall and making time-loops, when, in fact, just sometimes; the bigger picture and probably the future, too, can be this pitiless despair of crappy deaths, provoking confessions, and moreover turmoil and havoc.

Which leads us to our next WHO 1S TH1S COOL K1D: 101 lesson, Dave's friends. Dave Strider really does value his friendships. It's normal for a 16 year-old boy like himself believe it or not, with that obnoxious cool facade he's put up and all. However, he does seem to keep his distance, preventing any mishaps between himself and others, once again being reclusive. His best friend would probably be John Egbert, this dorky, goofy, but all over OK guy. There was a time, when in fact, Dave had a close encounter with his quest bed, because Terezi was actually pushing him to beat John. The problem is, Dave Strider respects John as the sort-of leader he is, slow to respond to the whole charade. He could honestly care less about the fully-realized title that he's desperately reaching for, because he knows what's more important. The fact Dave and John share a relationship that of brothers, remarkably of the ages is the honest truth — the two tend to comfortably joke around. John has even called Dave dorky before — one would actually expect that, wouldn't they?

Now Dave's got this ecto-biologic sibling that we'll just call Rose Lalonde for the sake of being canonically correct. She's got this fantastic ability of extremely accurate (often debatable, as Dave might disagree) dream analyzing. She does have the capacity to be extremely sarcastic at times, and this sometimes translates over to her labeling oddly occurrences in Dave's dreams as simply phallic imagery, despite any protests. Oddly enough, Rose is one of the few people Dave can be as open as he possibly desires to under his apparent facade. Passively, of course. He's even bluntly told her (regarding the suicide mission they were to embark on to implement the scratch) that he would not ever want her to die. If he's ever had his guard up, he's certainly put it down for her.

With Jade Harley, another one his closest friends, Dave can be just plain chill with. She's got this default setting to her, acting awfully benevolent to nearly everybody she meets. Obviously, this is influential for Dave, considering how he views her. Dave does find her a bit reckless; someone who can't fend for herself. This certainly isn't true, but admittedly, Dave is soft on Jade. He's overly-protective in a way — because she's his friend.

Troll-wise, Dave's pretty close to Karkat Vantas. Yeah, they've argued quite a bit in the past, but coming to a mutual agreement regarding the troll girlfriend everybody's after these days was a pretty ironic way to settle their on and off feuds. Of course, one can't bring up Karkat without bringing up Terezi Pyrope — a troll whose relationship with Dave (originally filled with subtle flirting and a jpeg-doodle agenda), actually grew to be somewhat intimate. Of course, it's been called off since then, no thanks to what we'll just leave as "troll quadrants".

In conclusion, Dave's expressionless composure along with his Ben Stiller shades is the absolute cleanest mess you'll find. He's got style (miles and miles) but he's also just a one kid amongst his friends trying to stand out in the mess of things.

AGE: Technically 1,138 - just shy of 1,139. However, he is physically about 17.
APPEARANCE: Full body | Glamour shot | Boy band photo op

PERSONALITY:
Given his name, one might expect Iceland to be a bit cold in terms of personality. Upon first impression, that may be correct, but underneath Iceland's frosty exterior is a hot-blooded individual. Perhaps this goes along with the fact that he's a chilly island hanging out near the arctic circle, but happens to be made out of volcanoes. Either way, yes, he's typically apathetic towards people he isn't intimately familiar with. This is a facade of sorts, because really, Iceland is shy and quiet, and it's easier to seem cool and not embarrass himself if he keeps everyone at an emotional distance. He is not anti-social, however, and while it isn't in his nature to talk much, that doesn't mean that he dislikes people as a whole, or socializing. He just doesn't know how to do it properly beyond simple, topical conversations. He grew up with practically no friends, and given his introverted nature, he's not exactly equipped to take on deep and meaningful conversations upon first meeting with someone. So, the side of Iceland that most people see is one of supposed stoicism and lineface, although he's much more sensitive and insecure than he lets on. After centuries of practice, he's gotten good at hiding that. For the most part.

His hot-blooded nature comes out in one of two ways: Getting flustered or throwing a temper tantrum. Once someone gets past his cool facade and under his skin, it's quite obvious that Iceland isn't as emotionless as he acts. Expressions don't come easy to him, with the exception of embarrassment and anger. The latter is a little more random, sort of like a volcano; it can erupt at any time, without warning. Not without provocation, although the strangest things can set Iceland off and cause him to get upset. He reacts strongly to shocking and/or unpleasant situations, and sometimes ends up a bit moody when the situation doesn't play out in his favor. He does his best to contain those kinds of reactions so he doesn't lose face and become unliked, but he has no qualms about outwardly showing his annoyance. It's when his buttons get continually pressed that he tends to lose his grip and lets those negative emotions out. He gets flustered and fussy at times when his insecurities are brought up. As a teenager, he does have concerns over things that might be directly irrelevant in pretty much any situation - such as his body image and lack of muscles - but that doesn't make him any less touchy about the subject. When forced to strip down for the sake of the world's safety during the Christmas 2010 event, Iceland initially refused and was later traumatized by the event. He was that against showing off his skinny self, and made it clear that he was very upset that he had to. He was also a bit self-depreciating in the process, again, because he's that insecure about his appearance.

Of course, while the duality of his ice/fire temperament suits him well, there's more to Iceland than geography puns. Really. Despite being well over one thousand years old, he physically appears to be teenager, and acts as such on most occasions. He tries hard to appear mature in front of his peers, but since he isn't as grown up as he thinks he is, he easily slips back into childish behavior. Most notably the aforementioned temper tantrums. Funnily enough, the harder he tries to convince others that he's a mature adult, the more childish he tends to act. He is a little naive about the workings of the world, due to growing up in a rather isolated environment. He's fascinated by trends and technology, and does his best to keep up. He wants to be popular and liked, and keeping in stride with society's advances is a way for him to relate to others. Look at how cool and caught up he is! After his spectacular economic collapse and the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, Iceland made a point of monologuing (he seems to have a habit of talking to himself when he's feeling lonely) about how he needs to become popular once again. He doesn't need to be in the spotlight and the center of attention - in fact, that much attention would make him uncomfortable - but he wants others to generally have a good impression of him, even though he'll say otherwise.

He's very proud of his independence and the progress he's made from being the poor, backwater country he was for the majority of his life. Rather, a poor, backwater territory. He was very dependent on his brothers, Norway and Denmark, for centuries, and this is sort of ingrained in him whether he likes it or not. He tries to distance himself from them, but they're family; they're close. Iceland will never admit it, but he does have a soft spot for the both of them. In Hetalia Fantasia 2, he got lost after being separated from the two of them, and he couldn't help but sound upset when they eventually were reunited and he stated, "I thought you guys ditched me." This also goes hand in hand with the fact that Iceland doesn't like to be alone unless he chooses to be, but really plays into Iceland's subconscious belief that his brothers will always be there to depend on if he needs them. It's a habit to rely on them, he can't help it, but he consciously fights that because he wants to stand on his own two feet and do his own thing, and be more than their little brother (although they still see him as such; most notably Norway, as he's Iceland's biological older brother). While normally unwilling to yield to the requests of others if he doesn't want to, Iceland will do what Norway and Denmark tell him to do as long as they're persistent enough about it. Iceland is wary of strangers and people he doesn't know too well, so they typically need to present good reasoning to convince Iceland to do something. Norway and Denmark don't. They could have the flimsiest excuse for wanting Iceland to do something for them and because they're his brothers and he's quite fond of them, he'll eventually cave. Only for them. Although this could possibly carry over for friends he bonds with, given the opportunity for that to happen.

It doesn't take much to get Iceland to like someone. Underneath the layers of geography puns and moody teenage behavior, Iceland is really a nice guy. He doesn't like seeing people upset or unhappy. In the Hetalia Fantasia 2 drama CD, Italy gets a little down when Iceland bluntly rejects his offer for of food. When Iceland sees this, he changes his mind and states, “because you're offering it to me, I'll accept it,” despite saying he wasn't hungry mere moments before. He's straightforward and honest, but he never says or does anything with the intention of harming others in any way or spreading ill will. He's just a little awkward, but ultimately wants to be accepted by others.

PROJECTED CLASS: Scholar.
Iceland is well known for loving books and churning out a ton of authors (and a Nobel laureate!), as well as being a peaceful country with no military. While he's no stranger to battle, in a sense - he was born in the midst of the Viking Age, after all - he has never been much of a fighter; the only wars he's ever partaken in were about fish, and involved boats bumping each other and men screaming. There were no weapons and no one died. That being said, in the second Hetalia drama CD, which took place in an MMORPG, Iceland never fought anything, and when confronted with a monster, basically confessed that he didn't know how to beat it. It would not seem wise to trust Iceland with a weapon in any capacity. However, he would be beneficial as a support class, since he likes being an intellectual snob. Bring on the books!!

OTHER: Iceland has a funny accent.

PROJECTED CLASS:
Definitely a KNIGHT. Aside from the fact that his full title in canon is Knight of Time, Dave's idiosyncrasies probably correspond better to this class, compared to others. For one thing, the guildmaster's personality traits (especially "teasing", "diligent", and "loyal") matches up pretty nicely with Dave's own traits. Dave's actually a sword-wielder in canon, so being on the defense as his primary focus would be somewhat of a treat to see. Plus, it's kind of funny how him having low mobility in Dyspros works out — back home in Houston, he'd constantly lose to his big Bro in any particular strife session. And his Bro was fast.

The first thing he does is run.

He's imagined this moment once or twice upon his arrival to Goldvale, the birthplace of the greatest idea he's ever had, which was to steal (borrow?) a monkey from an unsuspecting pet shop. Ironically, being chased by a bunch of angry shopkeepers wasn't the ideal way to get away with the actual stealing — but it probably goes without saying that a man has to be pretty much out of his goddamn cranium to actually attempt a theft in the middle of town, primarily composed of mission-trained RPG-like guilds, ready to defend at a drop of a hat.

But, for one thing, he didn't actually wholeheartedly do it. "Stealing" was a bit of an exaggeration, to an underwhelming extent. Truth be told, Dave was more focused with the actual thrill of the expedition itself, rather than concern being on selling the exotic furry mammal on the Gold Market and making a profit. For one thing, he has never been, he never will be — blatantly put — a thief. He's sure of that.

Anyway, if he flashes back to the present, he can actually feel himself slowing down, every lengthy step he takes. He's jogging at this point, equipped with a strange unsatisfactory feeling with being assigned a Knight just like before and lacking the proper agility to back it up. It's not a matter of compensation, since his Bro was always faster than him. Instead, it was moreover a matter of wanting to be at a certain level. He couldn't help it.

He's only got a few more seconds of inner revelation before the shopkeepers close in, but he doesn't need it. He knows just what to do, what to say. He's ready. So he stops in his tracks, catches his breath, and turns to face the mustachioed men.

With an awkward, matted grin, he speaks.

Finally, it was completed.

After several months of badgering higher classed explorers to take him along, Iceland finally compiled the first volume of his Bestiary, complete with illustrations. It detailed each beast's weakness, strengths, and area where they liked to lurk, method of attack and defense (if applicable), in addition to the general overview. It was well worth the work.

Or it would be, if anyone would buy it.

Maybe it was poor marketing, poor advertising - Iceland was certainly a bit too shy to push his book on others. He'd set up a little spot near the Scholar's guild and try to sell of his written knowledge, but it was hard to attract a consumer base. Either people knew about the monsters already, or they had no use in such knowledge. He sighed heavily whenever people gave him a glance and just walked on by, ignoring him. Was it really not that interesting?

No. It needed a better sales pitch.

Although it's not in Iceland's nature to be very outgoing, he knows how to market his stuff to get money for it. That's the whole point of the tourist industry, and his is great! So, after formulating a basic pitch, he finally works up the nerve to get someone's attention.

"Hey, hey-- come here. Um, look. You want to know more about the world, right? Because-- "

He didn't get far in his pitch. The apathetic young woman brazenly grabbed a display book, flipped through it, set it down, and left, all within the span of 30 seconds. Iceland sighed, and sulked, although he tried not to make it obvious, because no one will want to buy books from a sad sack.

Although, by pure chance, another young woman walked by and stopped to ask if he was okay.

"Yes." Iceland responded, trying to straighten his posture and look more confident. It was a little difficult. The woman didn't comment on his state of being and instead went for the display book, asking if he had written it.

"Yes." Iceland responded again, although he started to blush. Maybe it was a trained response by now, as everyone else had walked away without much interest, and it was getting to be embarrassing.

The woman asked for the price. Iceland could only mumble.

Despite... most likely not hearing Iceland at all, the woman began to check her satchel for money. She had none, and quickly apologized, looking embarrassed herself. Iceland is able to force out an, "It's okay," while he looks down at his knees. The woman apologizing again, and, as Iceland hesitantly looks up at her, she smiles and says she'll be back tomorrow instead. She waves as she leaves. Iceland returns the gesture too late, when she's turned away and lost in the crowd.

Iceland puts his hand down, feeling like a dope. But after hesitating and fidgeting, wondering what he's supposed to do - he gathers his things, and goes inside.

He'll set up again tomorrow.

NAME: Latvia ‣ Raivis Galante
CANON: Axis Powers Hetalia
CANON POINT: May 2013
AGE: 600+ (existance) ‣ 15 (appearance)
APPEARANCE: click

PERSONALITY: Outwardly Latvia appears to be a quiet and submissive boy and he tends to get characterised as a cry-baby. While it is true that he’s extremely timid it isn’t his defining character trait. He prefers to be a pacifist, however even when he has declared neutrality in the past he often gets dragged into conflicts. To strangers and friends alike Latvia is extremely polite, if his mannerisms becomes more casual it’s a good indicator that he’s come to trust someone. Due to unfortunate events in his past he’s found it harder and harder to trust people. If Latvia is willing to bring down the barriers he’s set up around himself he becomes a loyal companion, concerned about people’s wellbeing even if he finds them difficult at times.

Latvia has expressed a want for siblings before, a subject that Lithuania and Estonia seem quick to avoid. Despite his withdrawn nature he has an intense want for friends or sibling like figures that he can rely on to treat him kindly. For a long time Russia has been a huge influence on Latvia’s life, but despite trying again and again he’s failed to cut ties with him. Because of that influence he’s felt unable to make friends with others and he gets excited when he has the opportunity to fraternise with those outside of Russia’s social circle. Latvia hasn’t exactly had the most stable relationships with people, which only adds to the desire for security and trust. While he wants to rely on others, naturally he doesn’t want to be taken advantage of and understands that he needs to do his best to keep a balance.

Being so small and pushed around so easily doesn’t come without its consequences and Latvia has somewhat of an inferiority complex. When he attempts to act as a mentor to Sealand he ends up dwelling over his own hardships and feels upset when he’s the one that needs to be comforted in the end. He may be proud of his culture and his people but on a personal level he feels overshadowed by those around him.

Even to those he may not particularly like he’s eager to prove his worth and usefulness. While his youthful face occasionally serves as a mask for the maturity he’s acquired over centuries of existence when he reverts to a childish state it only emphasizes it more so. Latvia is frequently plagued by tremors, ranging from a slight tremble to a strong quaking. The shaking tends to manifest itself with intense emotions such as excitement or anger but most notably with fear. He’s fairly twitchy and skittish and a lot of things in day to day life cause him anxiety. However, no matter how much he might shake and cry he never lets his fears paralyze him. When pushed into a corner

Latvia will fight back with all his strength for what he believes in and at his heart he’s incredibly courageous.
Being courageous isn’t the same as being noble though and Latvia has a reputation for being quite blunt. He’s the type to say things and do things the instant the idea enters his head which often leads him to say or do things that get him into trouble. It’s never his intention and half the time it is pure bad luck but Latvia frequently gets the short end of the stick. Russia often likes to bully him and he’s been crushed by a falling ceiling and almost eaten by animals before. Even actions with good intentions can wind up biting him in the ankles. He may not be physically strong but he can take a beating and still stay standing. It takes a lot to keep him down, that kind of scrappiness only adds to his hidden strengths.

As mentioned previously, when backed into a corner Latvia is capable of great feats. It doesn’t always end in fighting though. He’s been pushed to manufacture things he’s never made and the end results have been well crafted. He absolutely hates that kind of motivation though as it stresses him needlessly. On the other hand, having been pushed so hard in the past Latvia has become rather lazy in modern times, only working when it’s convenient for him and wanting to rely more and more on others to do the work for him. If his assistance is needed, he can be encouraged by gentle words and kind promises.

PROJECTED CLASS: Academic ‣ Scholar
Latvia tries to avoid conflict if he can help it. Even though he is more than willing to fight if needed the initial atmosphere upon arriving probably won’t make him feel threatened enough to immediately pick up a sword. From the desktop mascots Latvia displays a vast knowledge of various cultures and histories of other countries and it would not be surprising if he becomes interested in the culture and history of Reis Alureila as well.

FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: [For a while Latvia just stares at the wisps of smoke in front of him before he finally starts to speak]

Um… I’m sorry. I suppose this is all just a little strange to me. Can you hear me alright?

[He waits a few moments for a response but it doesn’t seem to come]

Testing.

Testing, one, two. Is it a bad signal? I’m sorry, I’m bad with modern technology as it is. Can you hear me now? Oh! That’s better.

I don’t mean to trouble you but I heard you were selling books on the origins of Reis Alurelia. I know they’re quite expensive but I was wondering if we could work something out. I do have a few things that I've collected recently, apparently they’re quite rare.

Would you like to see them for yourself?

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE He twirled the pen idly in his fingers as he tilted his chair back, staring up at the ceiling of his room. Writing a book had seemed like a good distraction at the time but actually following through on the action was another story. There were already books on plants and their properties, potions they were good for, which ones were poisonous and so on and so forth, so why was he sat here writing all that out again? Granted, if he could compile several tomes worth of information into one book it would be hugely convenient but less books meant less money.

With a heavy sigh Latvia lurched forward, the chair legs hitting the floor with a clatter. The texts strewn about in front of him seemed to meld together and the outlines of the diagrams flattened out into familiar and uninteresting shapes. He readjusted his robes and got

to his feet. Fresh air might help his concentration and without even bothering to clear up he left the room and stumbled out into the gentle sunshine.

Even something as simple as going outside seemed slightly thrilling, every time he stepped through the doorway it was like stepping out into a fantasy novel. Dusty robes and rusted armour as well as exquisitely crafted uniforms and newly forged swords bustled about with the people in the crowds. Seeing such a blend of the old and the new might have reminded him of home if it wasn’t all so unusual. Almost instinctively he started to make his way towards the Ironwall district. If he was having trouble with his work then surely one of the druids would be able to help him. Latvia had always been rather fond of their powers with his own love of nature and he couldn’t help but feel a little jealous. But even if he just came to discuss his book they might end up roping him in with a mission.

An anxious sort of excitement started to bubble up inside him.

IC
NAME: Yuri Lowell
CANON: Tales of Vesperia
CANON POINT: After breaking out of jail in Part 1.
AGE: 21
APPEARANCE: Imgur
PERSONALITY: At first glance, you may see Yuri as something simple; a simple basic person on the outside. But actually, he's quite comparable to a maze. A maze that seems like you could finish it in 4 minutes flat, but then you find yourself trying to figure it out for a good 3 hours.

Yuri's true intentions and motivations are always up in the air and hidden behind lies, deception, and coldness. This is the "Yuri" he shows off to mostly everyone, in attempts to avoid doing things he'd rather let someone else do, or to get himself out of things he doesn't want to be in. This "Yuri" also shows his own sense of humor, which is shown by teasing and snark. He'll tease just to see what kind of reaction he'll get from you, and depending on what that might be, he'll either keep going with it from time to time and laugh at you, or ease up on it--he knows when to stop and doesn't take it so far. If you hang around this "Yuri" long enough, you'll find yourself either pulling your hair out over how simple and outspoken he puts out to be, or noticing how easy he truly is read. He's honestly an open book, just that it's a book you have to get used to reading.

Lazy as he is, he's also a quite the show-off. And there's no point in showing off something if it's not all that impressive. Yuri is fit and active, exercising as a hobby more than a chore. His Bodhi Blastia helps his fighting skills during battles, allowing him to use Artes that he didn't normally learn through the knights. Although he's good with a sword, he CAN fight without it, as shown in some of his Artes, like Brutal Fang (Mash that attack button for a flurry of fists to the face!). He can hold his own in a fight, even if the power difference is highly noticeable.

Bringing it up, Yuri also has a good idea of battle techniques. If Yuri sees an example of whatever it may be, chances are he'll pick up on the move if it proves of interest to him. In a matter of seconds. It's how he learned Fatal Strike from Clint, without him even knowing he taught it to him. He sometimes doesn't even need to see it, give him some notes on the arte, and he'll learn it through trial and error, or just Wild Mass Guessing. (See: Tiger Blade.)

He picks up information easily and is also capable of noticing things others don't.

With this "Yuri," anything that requires way too much thinking, he doesn't do unless he really has to. Although I say "this Yuri," this is probably where his true being is actually at. He doesn't like thinking too hard about things, and can't stand looking at something too long. He's not exactly book-smart either, as said by he himself during a sidequest with Giganto Monsters. If he doesn't completely understand something, he'll ask about it.

As strange and cynical as he is, there's another side to our current "Yuri" that may catch you off--he's oddly optimistic. Rarely. Given the situation and if his friends/people close to him are feeling down, he won't mind giving a pep talk or two. He's not full of happy and cheer, but he'll give you the good side of things in attempt to cheer you up. Of course, this is if he likes you enough.

It is also really hard to break this guy. At the most, you can anger him, but it'd be a hundred years before you could break him. He doesn't let most things try to drag him down, and instead pushes forward. What's done is done, and we have to move on. He also can be pretty happy during the most darkest things, as Duke even comments on that during the final moments before the final battle begins.

Although he may do things like that, this actually leads into another part of Yuri to delve into. This "Yuri" has a large self-esteem issue, placing others as far more important than he himself. This is the "Yuri" that you find beyond the slacker he plays, and isn't shown to much of anyone. He can't take a compliment without completely handwaving it, and he doesn't like it when people are worried about him. He thinks that there's bigger and better things to worry about than someone like him, but despite all this, he's actually quite the worry-wart himself. Of course, he won't show it, but if he were to ask if you're okay, he probably actually means "Oh my God, are you alright don't do that again god you're an idiot let me find some bandages for you are you hungry here I'll carry you you didn't break anything did you"

Funny enough, taking our Yuris into account, there's one more hidden "Yuri" that isn't ever seen to light unless under heavy circumstances. This is the dark side of himself, or rather the "take matters into your own hands, may it be just or unjust" side of him.

There's no bad intentions. Yuri believes that the corruption and power of the royalty/empire has gone on long enough. He has decided to take matters into his own hands if need be. He's seen what laws can do, and how people who're evil can just get away with being evil. They can do whatever they want--punish the innocent knowing that they can't do much to them. Yuri absolutely despises that, driving to "dirty his hands" by killing the evil that the law doesn't deal with. Although he knows that he's becoming what he hates the most, becoming a criminal in the eyes of everyone is something he doesn't care about. The only thing he does care about are the people. If someone can be saved by his actions, he'll be okay with whatever happens to him afterwards. You could say he has a strong sense of justice, even if it is a sort of an "out of whack" kind of justice.

"How would you go about punishing the villains that the law can't touch?"

As weird and dorky as this guy is, we can't forget that he's bone and flesh. Although he's not going down without a fight, you CAN indeed take this guy down. He's no monster or beast. As a human, taking him on under certain conditions around him do matter, as shown after the Outbreaker fight in the desert; the whole cast couldn't stand from it due to heat and drought, including Yuri himself.

All considering, he really, really cares about the people around him. The happy face he puts up is a huge facade, and you rarely ever know if Yuri is truly upset or not. He just doesn't want anyone worrying about him when there's bigger problems to be worried about, and usually, he doesn't need anyone worrying. He can solve his own problems himself he thinks, and if he can't, he'll keep it to himself. Or maybe even do both (See: I killed Ragou and Cumore and none of you have to hear about it.). Man's got a lot of pride, and he'd be damned to let go of it easily.

PROJECTED CLASS: Warrior ↠ Punisher

This one's an oddity, as not only is Yuri a speed+strength guy, from his canon point he's not going to be entirely interested in guilds unless someone gives him more information about them. Yuri's fighting style is rather unique, so it goes without saying it would be tough to classify it. However, Yuri has a strong sense of justice and protecting people, but in his own way. He is weak to elemental magic for sure, but he's not a magical type, so learning skills as a Punisher will likely not happen. I've plotted with Asuna-mun to be dragged into Warrior's Guild, so I've decided to take him on as is with planned subclasses to fit his style of battle.

FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: Thread from Haven!
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE "You've gotta be kidding..."

It was the dead of the night. The first night of his initial dragging into the Warrior's guild. And his first mission as a initiate.

He didn't really like this day, to say the least.

Yuri was guarding the garden, right in front of the cucumbers since apparently that was the most important. However, to say guarding is probably the least descriptive thing to say, as Yuri was doing that as much as the air passed through the crops. His blade sheathed and adjacent to him, he lays down on a patch of grass, not even facing or catching a glimpse at the "protected" cucumbers. "So they got me on vegetable duty, huh. Geez, this is just like the knights, isn't it..." he yawns. First impression of guilds, not so good.

"Not too much I can do about this, huh," Yuri contemplated, considering how the place works, it's like it's run by guilds. A sigh completes, before he drifts off into his own thoughts. A castle that grants a wish if you reach the top. He wonders if that's what everyone is after. While he remains neutral and uninterested in the gift atop of the castle, he definitely knows what comes with something as divine as that is. A person should never have the power to have anything they'd like to come true, as only bad could come out of it. Corruption due to power. A special talent to make them above all others.

"Heh," A scoff, "Wonder if it's actually up there though. Love to see the look on that guy's face." His voice then switches, almost comically, into something very high pitched, "'Thanks for playing! But your wish is in another castle!'"

"Or something like that."

Switch: off. Yuri returns back to slacking off, realizing that he was this bored to do something so...ridiculous.
