about applying
If you'd like to apply for a character, you're in the right place! As of June 24, applications are now always open. Fill out one of the two forms on this page depending on the type of character you're applying for and post it in the comments of this entry. While you fill out your application, here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Please read over the rules and FAQ before you begin to fill out your application—This will save you headaches later!
  • Check the taken and reserved pages to make sure that your character isn't listed on either (unless you reserved them, naturally).
  • Please check your application for spelling and grammatical errors. While we're hardly going to reject for a misspelled word or two, a large amount of errors makes us much more likely to reject an application.
  • Plagiarism is unacceptable. If we find an application has been plagiarized, it will result in immediate rejection and a ban from the game.
  • You may app ONE character per round, for a total of THREE characters in the game. You may have two characters from the same canon provided they have little or no interaction in canon.
  • If you're already in the game, all of your current characters must have passed the last AC to apply for a new character. If this is your first character, don't worry about this, of course!
  • When posting your application, please format the subject line of your first comment in some form of Character Name - Series - Reserved/Unreserved in that order. Do not link to your application.
  • Original characters are allowed, but their applications are judged to a much higher standard than canon characters. We want to make sure that the character and their world are thought-out and developed. This isn't meant to discourage such characters in the slightest, so all this really means is take care to explain the world your character comes from especially, since all we have to judge them by is what you tell us!
  • If we ask for a revision, don't worry! Usually we just need clarification on something before we decide on your application. If you are asked for one, you have five days to supply the requested revision.

application for canon characters:

CONTACT: email/aim/[plurk.com profile] plurkname/what have you
CHARACTERS IN GAME: put N/A if none

IC
NAME: Your character's name.
CANON: Your character's canon. Please note the specific canon if the character is from a large franchise (i.e. Marvel Comics vs. Marvel Cinematic Universe) or has different ways the canon can progress (i.e. Fate/Stay Night's routes).
CANON POINT: At what point are you pulling your character from?
AGE: How old is the character?
APPEARANCE: A link to a picture is fine! It's recommended to upload it to Imgur or a similar site to prevent pesky hotlinking images!
PERSONALITY: This is the most important part of your app, so take special care with this section. Describe their personality, and use canon to support this section as needed. While quality is of course more important than quantity, we're likely to ask for a revision if this section is less than three solid paragraphs.
PROJECTED CLASS: Which base class can you see your character having and why? This doesn't need to be more than a paragraph, but we just want to make sure you understand the class system and think about how your character will fit into it!
OTHER: Additional notes/questions about the character go here.

WORLD INFO: Explain the world that your character comes from. While we hardly want pages and pages of information, this does need to be a solid section. Relay the parts of the characters world that relate directly to them or have affected them the most. We're looking for evidence that this character is clearly thought out, and in absence of a canon, this section is how we'll be judging your character for consistency.
BACKGROUND: Your character's history/background. This doesn't need to be extensively detailed, but we need to know what made the character who they are today.

IC
NAME: Gaius.
CANON: Fire Emblem: Awakening.
CANON POINT: Pre-Paralogues where time shenanigans are involved, aka the children.
AGE: Unknown; he's an adult most likely in his early-to-middle twenties.
APPEARANCE: in the flesh.

PERSONALITY:

" A berry tart keeps me whistling no matter how hard the going. "
Gaius can fit the archetypal thief persona that is known and loved throughout RPGs of decades past. He's got a silver tongue that can dance with the roughest of the bunch in a conversation and the looks to match. Like the rest of the colorful cast in Fire Emblem: Awakening, however, he has something unique about him. At the bottom of it all, he's a simple thief who loves to put his hands to "good" use. All thieves require a price to do the job asked, with said price rising over factors such as risk and priority. He'll be more than happy to take gold, but it would be only to find the nearest candy shop and stock himself up to the brim with the sweetest things imaginable.

His sweet tooth is unquenchable and he has no shame in admitting to that. Every member of the Shepherds knows of his addiction, and most supports have his diet included in some ways as a form of comic relief. In the early beginnings of his and Panne's supports, she has to assist him getting down a tree he climbed for a mere pot of honey as she's of the more-agile taguel race. Instead of never doing such an embarrassing act again, he returns to a much taller tree that bears a fruit supposedly sweeter than candy only for her to assist him once again.

Without sweets in his blood, he feels like he's not at the top of his game. He says that "any moment I'm not eating sugar is an emergency" in response to the various treats hidden in his body as supposed rations. Towards more stoic members like Tharja and Panne, he refers to a piece of candy to boost their mood only to be denied left and right. Normally, he's a cool-headed individual who can compose a thought rationally and have a response ready at hand. Throw the topic of confections into the mix and his obsession will quickly come to surface.

That isn't to say that he's only good for making quirky one-liners about his favorite foods. He has a set of morals that he holds tightly around him and he never defers from it even when on the job. In the chapter that he's recruited, he is originally an enemy who has to be spoken to as Chrom in order to convert. He's very easy to convince as he is led to believe that it was supposed to be a simple robbery from the castle's treasury. Upon the revelation that they are there to assassinate Chrom's sister Emmeryn, he refuses to cooperate and defects to the Shepherds. It didn't hurt that Chrom uses Lissa's (his other sister) hand-made candy as a form of payment if he decides to help.

Another example of his ethical standing is with Maribelle in a support that delves into the past. Under the threat that his employers would kill Maribelle if he didn't comply, he had to break into her family's treasury and was caught doing so. He expresses guilt in admitting that he said it was her own father trying to steal, leading to a close call that almost had him dying by the hands of the magistrate. Gaius is once again forced to frame Maribelle's father. After a battle of conscience even if his hand was forced, he sent a letter to the court and saved her father's life. His desire to keep a then-unknown Maribelle from being killed shows that he has a big heart, and the fact that he still feels guilty for being pulled along in such a scheme brings a contradiction from the normal thief's mindset.

He's also a pretty big tease. Almost everyone he has a support with is given a nickname no matter the gender. Chrom is known as Blue, Panne as Whiskers, Tharja as Sunshine-- the list goes on. It usually has something to do with their physical appearance, though he can also be ironic with people like the brooding Tharja. Most find his tendency to give them a new name insufferable and he is often reprimanded. No matter how much they may disagree, he'll continue slinging around the new name as if that's how he's always known them. Occasionally, their real name will pop out of his mouth but it's not determined when and why it does. Even during serious moments like his discussion with Maribelle, he'll nonchalantly call her Twinkles throughout the entire talk.

Gaius makes use of his hands in more ways than picking locks and stealing treasure underneath the noses of the enemy. He is very into the idea of using his hands to make what he wants personally, which is probably why he picks up so many hobbies and exhibits skill upon putting them to use. A natural card dealer probably makes sense, but he's even been prompted into becoming a jeweler by how good he is at crafting things like rings. As a seasoned traveler of Ylisse, it makes sense that he's learned various arts and tricks. An expert in sleight of hand, he can make a card seemingly vanish from one hand to another and be accused of knowing teleportation. His own collection of candy is mostly hand-made by himself, revealing to be quite the talented baker. And if that's enough, he's shown enough prowess in sewing to fix the roughest of tears in people's attires.

He can also be a bit of a flirt. Gaius is a thief, after all! But he's not flirtatious in a way that most would imagine. He'd much rather be coy and laid back in his back-and-forth's with others of the fairer sex. Compliments get him showing all teeth, and he's always sure to take them in stride, never bashful or modest enough to reject or decline.
PROJECTED CLASS:
THIEF → GAMBLER.
It's fairly obvious that he'd make a good fit in Death's Toll. His starting class in actual canon is a thief, and while he's handy with a sword, he'd much rather be sneaking around and making some money than racking up bodies. He and the guildmaster, Firuze, seem to have a few similar personality traits as well. The question is on if Gaius is more into breasts or backsides!
