about applying
If you'd like to apply for a character, you're in the right place! As of June 24, applications are now always open. Fill out one of the two forms on this page depending on the type of character you're applying for and post it in the comments of this entry. While you fill out your application, here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Please read over the rules and FAQ before you begin to fill out your application—This will save you headaches later!
  • Check the taken and reserved pages to make sure that your character isn't listed on either (unless you reserved them, naturally).
  • Please check your application for spelling and grammatical errors. While we're hardly going to reject for a misspelled word or two, a large amount of errors makes us much more likely to reject an application.
  • Plagiarism is unacceptable. If we find an application has been plagiarized, it will result in immediate rejection and a ban from the game.
  • You may app ONE character per round, for a total of THREE characters in the game. You may have two characters from the same canon provided they have little or no interaction in canon.
  • If you're already in the game, all of your current characters must have passed the last AC to apply for a new character. If this is your first character, don't worry about this, of course!
  • When posting your application, please format the subject line of your first comment in some form of Character Name - Series - Reserved/Unreserved in that order. Do not link to your application.
  • Original characters are allowed, but their applications are judged to a much higher standard than canon characters. We want to make sure that the character and their world are thought-out and developed. This isn't meant to discourage such characters in the slightest, so all this really means is take care to explain the world your character comes from especially, since all we have to judge them by is what you tell us!
  • If we ask for a revision, don't worry! Usually we just need clarification on something before we decide on your application. If you are asked for one, you have five days to supply the requested revision.

PERSONALITY:
"If someone tells me that it's wrong to hope, I'll tell them they're wrong every time."

For a girl who has so much potential, Madoka Kaname is someone who looks down on herself a lot.

At the start of the series, Madoka is an average 14 year old girl who only had mundane things to worry about – grades, friends, love letters and the likes. Her life was incredibly average as she lived with her successful mother, her stay at home father and her baby brother. While it was mundane and average, Madoka enjoyed it for the most part, until one faithful day she met a girl trying to kill some weird creature.

From her child-like appearance, it’s safe to say that Madoka is a gentle and friendly girl who would give up her soul to protect others – literally. Due to being a young teenager, Madoka is rather naïve when it comes to growing up, often asking her mother for advice, and she’s rather naïve about the truth of magical girls. She may show signs of naiveness, she isn’t dumb. She’s certainly not the type of girl to rush into things, and usually makes level-headed decisions about certain things, such as what her wish should be. While Mami Tomoe says she should make a wish for herself quickly, Madoka prefers to have more time to think it over. She was able to act fast by taking out a violent Mami in the third timeline when she was about to kill Homura. She may make some level-headed choices, but even Madoka can make some bad choices, such as throwing Sayaka’s soul gem away and caused her body to become comatose (to be fair, she had no idea that would happen, since no one knew what soulgems truly were).

While she does show signs of being naïve, Madoka does have an understanding of humanity. She states to Kyuubey that “even though Incubators have a good reason for collecting energy, they are still humanity’s enemy”, because Incubators use humans for their own good. Madoka has the mentality to deal with the truth and does not fall into despair easily unlike her best friends, who fell slowly into despair and turned into a witch (Sayaka), and who tried to kill all the other girls to make sure they never suffer the terrible fate of becoming a witch (Mami), making her a good representation of hope.

Madoka is a good girl – never causing any trouble, is the aid for the nurse, and is simply quiet. She treats others with respect and gentle care. As stated by her mother, she “never lies and doesn’t do anything bad”. She’s “always doing the right thing” as well, even if she has to make some sacrifices along the way. She is the first one to show kindness towards Homura Akemi, the new transfer student, and would sacrifice herself for her best friend Sayaka Miki if she ever got into any trouble.

While she’s friendly and open to people, the young middle school is rather shy around people. It’s shown that she’s more open and outgoing around other girls her age, calling them by their first name and adding a cute honorific, such as “-chan” or “-san” at the end. When it comes to males, she simply calls them by their family name, attaching the honorific of “-kun”. She tends to get flustered about things easily, such as when Mami and Sayaka gave a friendly laugh at her cute doodles of her as a magical girl and when Sayaka said she would make Madoka her wife.

IC
NAME: Spain (Antonio Fernandez-Carriedo)
CANON: Hetalia
CANON POINT: 1588
AGE: Old as Spanish dirt. Physically a dumb 18 year old.
APPEARANCE: note: in modern clothes but still the same loser
PERSONALITY:
Representing the country of eternal sunshine and good spirit, Spain is a warm hearted and cheerful man, renowned for his carefree optimism. With a little bit of hard work and faith, Spain believes that anything and everything will work out in the end. However, there are times when things become so hopeless that even Spain becomes a miserable character. When his economy hits a new low, he succumbs to illness and becomes convinced he's going to die. Dramatically, he begins to make his last wishes and cries pathetically in bed. But hey! In the end, everything did get better and wow, what do you mean he was dying? Everything is completely fine!

Even if things don't work out in the end though, he's the type of person who still keeps fighting until he can't fight anymore. Well, it doesn't help that he's also a very stubborn and competitive spirit too! Spain's the type of guy who will fight 80 years if he thinks he's right and will refuse to talk to someone for almost a century because they wronged him in the past. Just because he keeps fighting though that doesn't mean he always wins. In fact, Spain's history is filled with miserable endings. In the 1500s he's defeated by the young British Empire, in the early 1600s he's tormented by a newly independent Netherlands, and in 1898 his entire empire is defeated by a nation barely over a century old.

Another notable trait of his is his obliviousness. It is said that Spain is so oblivious, he's completely unable to read situations. He doesn't even try to read the atmosphere anymore. As a result, many things go over his head and it's very easy to run circles around or play him. It's so bad that people will use it against him to get him to do what they want. During one April Fool's event, France convinces him to host April Fool's by bring havoc to the world. In the end, he's convinced (again, by France) that he's done a horrible deed and that the only way to correct it is to strip naked. He willingly does so without a second question. At least you can say he did it for selfless reasons-- the fate of the world was at risk of being attacked by massive tomatoes! He had to strip! Unfortunately, he also never really learns and can fall for the same trick over and over again so many times. At the very least, he's learned not to completely trust certain characters (France, England, etc) but it also doesn't take much convincing for him to change his mind.

Coming from the year 1588, there will be some differences to his personality but overall, he is the same character. He's still optimistic and oblivious to a fault but in his younger years, his stubbornness and competitiveness are at it's highest. In 1588, Spain is the strongest empire and greatest empire in the world. For a very long time, his strength has gone unchecked and he has support from another great power, the Habsburg Dynasty. The Habsburg Union is an important thing for Spain and as a result of the union, you can rarely see Spain with an empty "house." He gets along with Austria whom he was in a union with for several centuries before a rather messy fall out. However, strips that take place in the future show Spain and Austria in modern time helping each other out when their economies hit a low and they have to make flowers to raise it. Other strips show Spain as reluctant to fight against Austria at times of war. Aside from Austria, there are the Italy brothers whom Spain absolutely adores. He claims that his ultimate wish is to live happily ever after with the two of them to which Austria scolds Spain claiming he will not share the union with anyone else. He also gets along with Belgium who helps take care of the house but his relationship with her brother is a complicated one.

Of the Italies, Spain is very close to the older brother, South Italy. Spain gained control of South Italy after a series of battles against France. Italy came under Habsburg domain and the southern half was given to Spain to control. Excited over the idea of "having a lackey too" Spain is quickly disappointed to learn that he has inherited the lazy, clumsy, and foul mouthed Romano. Though Romano is nothing but trouble in Spain's house, Spain still spoils him terribly even when he can't afford to do so. However, Spain is also very strict and scolds him when he acts up. He also loses his patience easily and due to his inability to read the atmosphere, he some times says hurtful things. In one instance, he sends Romano running away after the things he says. Gradually, Spain has begun to learn more about Romano since then and has been more careful about what he says. His love for his henchman is so great that when Italy is in danger, Spain transforms from a lazy country boy to an active, protective, and serious guardian.

While many nations have tried to fight him for one reason or another, very few have succeeded against him. At the time, many of his current opponents have yet to reach their potential but gradually, they have begun to leave dents in his empire. This has resulted in a very complicated relationship with several nations, most notably: England, Netherlands, and France.

France is a rather questionable addition to the Romance family. Though France is Spain's traditional ally, France seems to cause more trouble for Spain than good, especially with the way France is eying his Italian territories. Still, the two share a boarder and they share a tolerable but unwanted relationship.

Spain absolutely abhors England at the moment. England has tormented him at sea in recent years and the fact that the island nation is helping another one of Spain's enemies (the netherlands) doesn't help. At Spain's current canon point, Spain has just launched an all out attack and ill-fated attack against England. The event known as the Spanish Armada is a critical point in Spain's history which can be considered one of the first steps towards the fall of the Spanish Empire. The effects of the event won't be known to Spain but needless to say, the absolute defeat will take a serious toll on Spain's pride.

Despite the loss though, he is a nation and for his people, he will stubbornly fight and never give up. In order for his people to be happy he must keep fighting and try to win every thing he can for them-- every war, every foreign land. And, well, to be honest, when he wins, he benefits too. Spain is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, rich with gold and spices reaped from his overseas possessions. He has enough gold to drive the other nations mad with jealously (and to an extent, it does). However, he's horrible with money and the excess wealth he's acquired has led to inflation and a rather poor economy. In Spain's case, there is definitely such thing as too much of a good thing (though, he's unaware of this).

PROJECTED CLASS:
♔ Cavalier

I want Spain's base class to be a cavalier. His original weapon in canon was a halberd like weapon. While he isn't shown with any horses in canon, Spain has a rich history when it comes to horsemanship so it wouldn't be a stretch to say he has the appropriate skills. While the paladin class could work for him as well, I definitely see him as a more physical and aggressive fighter class like the cavalier.

OTHER: Spain will be arriving with his sword which was at his side. His halberd, however, did not make the trip.

"What do you think you're doing?" Spain yells as he picks himself up from the ground. His body is sore from being knocked onto the ground so many times but he isn't deterred.

Dusting off the back of his clothes, he begins to complain, "What is your problem? You know, I didn't ask for this mission but we have to do it! Do you understand?" He leans closer and jabs his companion in the rib with his finger. "We're in this together. You can't leave me and I can't leave you."

There's a huff and Spain's companion turns around, beginning to walk away.

"Were you listening?!" Spain exclaims in disbelief. He watches her back as she walks away and he doesn't move.

"I told you!" He yells.

(She'll come back)

"You can't leave!"

(She always does.)

"H-hey!"

(Except this time.)

He breaks into a run after her, tripping over his own lance which he forgot to pick up during his argument. Quickly, he kneels down to grab it and catches up.

"Ay!" He yells, trying to get her to stop. This is embarrassing. Things weren't supposed to go this way. He was Spain! He was famous for dealing with these sort of things! And here he was, in the middle of the marketplace, having an argument loudly in public. Now aware of the stares he was getting, he tries to calm himself down. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. He was the Kingdom of Spain. The greatest nation in the world with the greatest empire in all of history. He did not pick fights and throw tantrums in public. He was a better nation-- a better man-- than that.

"…I never had this problem at home, " He mumbles, walking alongside her. "Back at home, I'm a natural. Everyone likes me." Well, except for his enemies but hey! You win some, you lose some.

He waits for a response.

Nothing.

"Now we aren't talking at all?" In response, he gets an annoyed huff and a turn of the head.

Spain rolls his eyes and tries to take her by the reins.

Why did he ever decide to link with such a difficult horse?

NAME: Masrur
CANON: MAGI: LABYRINTH OF MAGIC
CANON POINT: After they say their goodbyes to Morgiana and the others. When they leave to train or other things.
AGE: 21
APPEARANCE: A lot of man here
PERSONALITY:
Masrur is a character from Magi that we know a good deal about, and yet know too little of. His full past has yet to be revealed or his full relationships with certain people. From what we do know about him, there are certain traits that define him as a person, though there may not be many.

Masrur is an excellent example of a strong, silent type of man, much more action-based than spoken. He is perfectly content to be in the background, not having a great deal of attention focused on himself. Although, this proves in vain in some cases because of his race, size, and overwhelming presence.

However, some of this unsociable appearance can be related to his past when he was a slave and gladiator in the Reim Empire. It's common for Fanalis to become slaves or even gladiators because of their superior fighting and survival abilities. Because of this past, it can be assumed that his words weren't really valued and so he didn't really make a great effort to speak out unless he was spoken to. It's a good example of old habits dying hard. Even with his freedom now and being one of Sindria's eight generals, Masrur just doesn't really talk unless he is spoken to or he finds something of interest to speak about. He can be social; he just chooses to not be most of the time, even if he might still be quick to point something out or correct someone on something if need be. Just because he is strong doesn't mean he is stupid by any means.

When Masrur does speak, he comes off as rather blunt and to the point. He doesn't really dance around subjects or think over words greatly. With this fact he can seem rude at times, or spark some arguments; such as the ones he can get into with Sharrkan, one of the other seven Generals. These mostly end with Ja'far stepping in and punishing Sharrkan while Masrur stands behind Ja'far. The habit of running to Ja'far seems to be a common one for Masrur because despite his size, Masrur is still one of the youngest generals of Sindria, only being older than Pisti. Still, Masrur seems to get along with Ja'far the best, and this might be from them going with Sinbad and having to deal with his special nature at times.

Despite being rather blunt, Masrur is also respectful of his comrades, and fiercely protective and loyal with those close to him, showing he cares a great deal about them. Once again with his past, Masrur isn't afraid to use his strength to protect those around him or the Sindria kingdom. If he can use his strength for anything, he shows that he wants to do so to protect instead of for others's entertainment or profit. Most of all, he wants to use his strength to protect the kingdom that Sinbad had created. Like all of the other generals, Sinbad has had a great impact and influence on them and they are extremely loyal to the king. Masrur shows he will fight whenever he is called to do so for the king. For Masrur, once you've earned his loyalty you've earned his trust and himself completely.

Masrur, while he can be a fierce fighter, does have a soft spot for some things. One of his biggest soft spots is for children; this is shown when he first meets Morgiana and Aladdin. Even though he is still silent, he indulges speaking with Aladdin to the point of Aladdin showing him Ugo. A lot of his care seems to be directed towards Morgiana, though, since Fanalis are rare. He is surprised when he first sees the girl and through talking to her more he eventually becomes somewhat of an older sibling to her: training her, and looking after her like she's his little sister, giving her guidance for different things, and even making sure she eats properly.

This big brother mentality goes into the realm of his protectiveness, too. When Morgiana and the others were brutally attacked and beaten by the Al Sarmen while exiting the dungeon, Masrur became enraged enough to use his household vessel even if it does take a toll on his muscles. He wanted to make the man pay for what he had done.

Besides his soft spot for children, it's also mentioned that Masrur has a thing for women with large breasts. Though any interaction with this has yet to be seen, it is something that more than likely will be revealed in time.

Another thing that is part of Masrur's personality is his how he is prone to pouting, or even being unsure how to completely take compliments about himself, similar to Morgiana in this sense. There are a few times that when he is being teased or complimented, the larger and normally stoic man will puff his cheeks out or even turn away from the person and source of the comment. It's clear he is embarrassed, but instead of overreacting he simply adverts himself from the comment. When it comes to some people, he will answer back with something embarrassing about the other person, too.

Aside from his core personality traits, Masrur has interactions with some characters that help to shape him into the person he currently is. Though there aren't many to be shown, there are is still a handful that can be noted on that are important to him.

One of the first people would would Sinbad, the king of Sindria. There isn't a lot known about their meeting except the fact that Masrur faced against the other in the gladiator stadium. After this happened, he somehow joined the man and became a general of Sindria. For Masrur, Sinbad is someone he trusts and has loyalty towards, but more than anything he owes for his freedom. Like most of the generals, Masrur's relationship with the King is much like a sibling relationship. He gets along well with him, being seen with the man a lot of time regardless of whether they are traveling or not. Still, Masrur does have to deal with some of the other man's less than savory habits and is even roped into some. Instead of fighting, he just goes with the flow of it, knowing Sinbad will tire out sooner or later. Because when all of is said and done, he loves Sinbad in a way and without the man there is no telling where Masrur might have ended up.

Being second to Sinbad would have to be Ja'far. Like Sinbad, Masrur is with Ja'far a great deal of the time. They seem to have a pretty good relationship and they are capable of spending time with one another with no kind of problem. Masrur is content to just be around the other man, not really needing to talk a great deal, instead just spending time. They both seem to deal with a great deal of Sinbad's habits, only Ja'far usually gets on Sinbad's case about them while Masrur will only do something if asked by Ja'far in order to get something done.

As far as the other generals go, Masrur seems to have pretty good relationships with them all, though a lot of them it only shows basic interactions. However, Sharrkan is one specifically that he is shown having more interactions with. Even though he isn't extremely chatty, Sharrkan seems to be able to talk enough for the two of them, dropping some comments towards Masrur - some are rejected by Masrur answering him bluntly. Regardless, Masrur remains the same; he will tell the other man when he is being a bother or when he's wrong. Other than this almost arguing sibling-like relationship, they do get along well.

Outside of the Sindria, there are some that he's shown interacting with, though it's nothing extremely great to comment to except his relationship with Morgiana. Like already mentioned, he has a soft spot for the girl acting like a big brother and becoming her trainer. Shown as regularly training with her, he cares about her and wants her to have some peace of mind. When she did ask about the dark continent, their homeland, he told her the truth of what he saw and what was no longer there. Still, he knew that just hearing words wouldn't be enough so he encourages the young Fanalis to set out and see for herself. Although unspoken, he does show some want for her to return, but only when she is ready and has found the answers she craves so much.

PROJECTED CLASS: Fighter - Berserker: I feel that this class would be best for Masrur considering his fighting style and race. Being a fanalis he is already gifted with extremely heightened senses as well as strength. He can easily break through a wall and more. This coupled with the ability of his household vessel is similar to the Berserker trait. It allows him to use electricity to enhance his body's ability and break past the normal limits, though it leaves him drained afterwards. With this I really feel like Masrur would be best suited int he Berserker class.

OTHER: Canon Abilities:

All Fanalis are gifted with enhanced physical strength. He has been shown to be able to crush ground under his feet and to be able to ram through a huge group of soldiers, sending them flying through the air while he stays firmly on the ground. Along with that, he has enhanced speed and senses, speed added to his strength is is able to quickly get from one area to another in a short amount of time. His senses enhanced, he and Morgiana were quickly able to tell of Sinbad's return from a large distance away; this is a trait needed by a tribe of hunters like themselves.

Besides his own enhanced abilities as a Fanalis, Masrur is a trained martial artist. Since he doesn't favor using a sword, though he does have some basic skills with it, he is more of a hand-to-hand fighter and prefers to learn more in that area. In a serious fight, his true fierceness as a fighter can be seen when he easily avoids injury and even removes the opponent's hand and ultimately defeats him.

As far as magical abilities, Masrur isn't gifted in it. The only thing that falls into that area is his Household Vessel: Balalark Kauza. A Household Vessel is one that is connected to an original Djinn weapon - in this case: Sinbad's Djinn, Baal. The Djinn's strength focuses around electricity, so Masrur's Household Vessel gives him the ability to use electricity to bypass his body's normal limits and bring out its full potential. Which - in the case of a Fanalis - means they are damn near unstoppable. However, this kind of power comes at a price: it takes a huge toll on his body, and afterwards he is unable to move for a span of time, so he rarely uses the weapon. The only time he really uses it is when he absolutely has to, or when he becomes enraged.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE

Masrur was still getting used to his new guild. Compared the building and training halls of the castle in Sindrian, this place was a little more than run down looking. It was dark and the strong musky odor, it was enough to give him a headache. Times like these he really wasn't fond of his heightened scent of smell. But despite how rough it looked the people here were actually pretty nice, more anyway. These were fighters like himself and he could only assume that their money was better spent than fixing it up. It was their choice in the end. This was the Ugly Jackal, a fitting name in some sense. It was still better than being in chains, so he would take what he could get.

Leaning on a back wall, the fanalis remained still eyes focusing on different items withing the guild. From people to objects, he took in everything making mental notes as he did. If this was to be his new home then he was going to make sure to know all the in's and out's of it. He appreciated the men that were here, they were fighters and many seemed to use weapons besides swords...that meant that the likely hood of Sharrkan being here was slim to none, that was a perk. On the topic of the generals he did have to wonder where they were and how they were doing. Just arriving here had made him more on edges and while he didn't talk a lot before, he barely spoke a word now. Unless it had something to do with gathering information on who he knew might be here. No luck so far he settled into the guild, though his ears were always open for any hint that someone arrived.

After remaining against the wall he soon moved to a table the alluring smell of food too tempting to let pass. He hadn't eaten just yet today. The large plate before him he reached out to grab a leg of meat, bringing it to his mouth and tearing a piece out. He assume he did something comical when the men around him started to laugh. Slowly he wiped his mouth, before he smiled a little but for just a moment. If this was going to be home for a while...maybe it would be so bad.

PERSONALITY:
"Perfect in every way besides her personality, Kashiwazaki Sena has few friends."

These are the most accurate words ever written in the history of accuracy and words. Sena Kashiwazaki, name often preceded by self-given phrases like "the great" or "the divine goddess" or "you should be grateful to have my presence", has it all: good looks, intelligence, athleticism and an uncanny ability to be irritatingly good at things on the first try. The problem is? She knows it. Flaunting is an understatement; if she could hire an actual herald to announce her presence whenever she enters the room, she would, she so would.

As a result, the only thing she's not good at? Socializing with people.

As popular as she is with boys (due to her looks), Sena is just as unpopular with girls her own age. This pushes her to join the Neighbors Club, a school club with the avowed purpose of making friends. Participating in various activities that will supposedly help them get better at making friends, it only serves to highlight just why they need the club in the first place. While it is a little unfair that girls tend to shun her because of her popularity with boys, Sena does absolutely nothing to help her case with her arrogant attitude. She's the first to proclaim herself as perfect and whenever embarrassed or flustered, she defaults to bragging about her superiority. She also has an air of entitlement to receiving compliments and attention. She treats boys like her servants and because their positive attention to her comes easily, she discounts it as being worthless. Sena, contrary as ever, desperately wants female friends. And if she can't get them in real life, she'll chase after the experience in a virtual one.

Like your typical otaku stereotype, Sena vicariously enjoys popularity with girls through dating simulation games and eroge. She's alarmingly invested in them, playing constantly in her free time, getting into flame wars over characters in message boards. She even attempts to get real life experience in activities that happen in the game (such as swimming) not to apply them to real life interactions with other girls but so she can have a more authentic experience while playing the game.

Sena's extreme personality expresses itself in everything that she does. She has the tendency to view the world in absolutes, dividing people into those who she can get along with and those she can't. Either she cares or she doesn't. She's either completely invested in something that she throws herself into it completely or she's completely indifferent to the point that she barely recognizes their existence. For the things she cares about (even if she might not consciously admit to them), she has no mental or emotional brakes. She's easily emotionally moved, frequently driven to tears over her videogames and Yozora's verbal abuse. She acts like an actual pervert over Kodaka's younger sister who resembles a character that she likes, frequently and publicly eheheing at her and squealing over her and trying to lure her into spending time with her. She even appears to like Yozora's treatment of her, however unconsciously she may reveal it, accepting and even liking the derogatory name Yozora uses for her: meat (in reference to her breasts) because nicknames are something to be used between friends.

Despite her natural gifts, Sena is extremely hard-working which is a key point in her character. Rather than relying on her natural skills and coasting, Sena is driven to be the best at everything, even something as mundane as a video game. She spends hours level grinding and gathering the best equipment. Her naturally competitive spirit often puts her in conflict with Yozora and they end up attempting to best each other in PSP games and karaoke. She always wants to have the last word, even during confrontations when it would be better for her physical safety and dignity just to walk away as when she was being harassed by delinquents and provoked them after Kodaka (the series protagonist) had driven them off.

During their school's athletic festivals, Sena was the most enthusiastic competitor to an off-putting point for her female classmates. Even knowing this, Sena admits that she's incapable of holding back however it may alienate other people from her and that is another key point in her character. It's not in her nature to hold back, to try to conceal her feelings due to insecurities or for fear of making mistakes. Sena is also very decisive, quick to snap to judgments and make her choices. Kodaka praises this as a forward-thinking trait, that she does not hesitate, that she rarely gets bogged down by regrets and looking back to the past.

Lastly, Sena likes to be challenged. As stated earlier, she's not inclined to hold back on anything especially in personal conflicts and that includes using every bit of power and influence to which she has access. This is something her father taught her but that Sena has taken to in her usual extreme way. When facing down a student council member who tries to shut down the club, Sena uses her father's position to block their attempt and even threatens to use said position against the student council member. It's a dirty move but one she doesn't have any qualms in using. While she may dislike that tactic, she's not going to hesitate in doing whatever she can to remove any obstacles in her way and to protect the club. And not only that, ultimately other opinions don't matter. As she says, "...Anyway, I couldn't care less about someone who'd back down just because I flashed a bit of my authority. People with real backbone wouldn't even give it a second thought." It's an especially revelatory character moment for Sena. For all of her misguided views on friendship, Sena looks for people who can go blow for blow against her. For someone so prideful, it may seem strange for her to pursue people who'd want to knock that pride down but for Sena, those are the only kinds of people she's willing to acknowledge. Someone who'll go against her as her equal for everything that she is.

Some of her social missteps are due to how sheltered she is. She's surprisingly gullible; she is frequently tricked by Yozora in part due her pride and not wanting to admit to things she doesn't know. However, Sena's main flaw that prevents her from interacting amicably with other people is that she seems incapable of viewing things from another person's perspective. Even to something as trivial as naming the protagonist character in videogames, Sena will input her own name even if the character is male. She constantly degrades other people (usually boys) by comparing them to and treating them to furniture or being automatically servile to her and it's less that she's innately without compassion as it is that because she can't seem to grasp how they would feel about the situation. She treats Yozora's hypothetical heartache in the same callous manner, saying that since she'd never been dumped, she didn't understand why it would be a sensitive topic at all. She has the mindset of a natural born princess (as described by Kodaka), the assurance of someone completely confident in her choices and actions so much so that the viewpoints of others barely exist on the periphery of her straightforward vision. It's this same mindset that makes her carelessly generous with her wealth. If there's something needed for a club activity that her family's properties can provide, then she'll be quick to volunteer it.

Despite all her flaws, Sena's case isn't completely hopeless. She is sincere in her desire to become friends with other girls. It's in her interactions with the Neighbors Club that slowly teaches her how to treat other people, how to humble herself, to realize that keeping her pride is less important than the time she could spend with people who are just as dysfunctional as she is. It'll take some time and some effort but let's remember this about Sena: she's not afraid to chase after the things that come least easily to her.

NAME: Robin
CANON: Fire Emblem Awakening

advisable: (Default)

[personal profile] advisable 2013-05-10 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY:
The first, and probably most important fact about Robin is that even though she is customizable in name and appearance, she is not a silent protagonist like most RPG player characters are. She is very vocal within the story, playing a prominent role with both her actions and words.

Despite not remembering much about her past, Robin is a very experienced and skilled tactician. The presence of a war planner that can create strategies on the fly and also defend herself very well is seldom seen in armies, and the Shepherds use that to their advantage when they take her in. Her plans, although "reckless" at times, almost always turn out with the outcome that she plans for. She has proved herself to be very cunning, but also very cautious; although she can't see the future, she always thinks of the best or worst-case scenario and has a plan ready for them, both on and off the battlefield. She always tries her best to prepare for the unexpected, but also follows a code of honour in her strategies. With the warnings of the future delivered to her and Chrom by Lucina in the future, she was able to avoid a timeline where the Fell Dragon, Grima, brought destruction to the world.

However, Robin is not all planning and seriousness. She might have an affinity for studying tomes, but she very much has a sense of humour and fun. She can appreciate a good prank or two, and also enjoys poking fun at her friends every once and awhile. Her silliness tends to manifest itself when she is around people she knows and trusts, which, to be frank, is almost everyone. Robin is a very friendly and accepting woman, and her ability to have a support with every Shepherd in the game is proof of this. She is even able to create bonds with characters previously fought as enemies such as Walhart and Gangrel, even to the point of forming a romantic relationship with them. Although she is not always able to agree with their points of view, her personality instills a certain spark in them to change their ways.

Expanding on this, an important trait to note about Robin is her enhanced sense of empathy. Her ability to befriend (and potentially romance) every playable unit is backed up by a firm belief that a war cannot be won alone. She holds a strong belief that forming bonds with one another will make the army stronger as a whole, and she definitely walks the walk. This is also seen through her conversations with her children - from the point that I am taking her from, they would be Lucina and Morgan. She takes on the sudden responsibility of motherhood quite gracefully, not batting an eye at the fact that these very children are an infant and not even conceived yet respectively from her perspective. After getting over the initial shock, she settles into her new maternal role quite comfortably, offering them comfort, support and wisdom. As most mothers are, she is even willing to give her life up for the sake of her child, as demonstrated when Lucina confronted her with intent to kill her.

In certain supports, we can also see that Robin is very curious about the world and people around her. As a recovering amnesiac, there are many things that Robin doesn't know about. She is very much an academic in this sense, taking every opportunity possible to learn and improve her knowledge, whether it's from a book, hands-on experience, or poking her nose where it shouldn't be. This curiousity can venture into the territory of nosiness at times, but she respects the other party's privacy if she is told that she has stepped out of line. Still, the information that she gathers and secrets that others entrust her with are never used to gossip; she is a very trustworthy person despite her status as an "outsider".

In addition to being able to use her head on the battlefield, Robin is also very proficient with both swords and tome magic. She can be a very formidable unit, and will use everything in her arsenal to protect her friends and fight for what is right. She cares for every Shepherd's life as if it were her own and she will do everything in her power to make sure everyone makes it home safe... Even if it means sacrificing herself.

NAME: Hiling Care

CANON: Gundam 00

CANON POINT: Season 2, Episode 24

AGE: Ageless, appears around 18

APPEARANCE: link

PERSONALITY: Hiling's loyalties lie strongly with the Innovators and their leader, her twin, Ribbons Almark. She will argue with anyone who disagrees with his ideas, using a condescending tone to explain to another Innovator how everything was going according to plan and they didn’t need his interference. More than anything, his approval is important to her. She easily becomes jealous towards anything or anyone that would take his attention away from her. By virtue of being his code-twin, Hiling is Ribbons’ favorite and she knows it. To her, this makes her superior to the others and entitled to their respect.

Despite the fact that combat-type Innovades are said to have no sexual distinction, Hiling chooses to identify as a female out of convenience and has a tendency to behave in a cute, girlish manner. Being the only girl of the group (until Anew comes along) and one of the few in the military doesn’t seem to bother her. Of all the Innovators, she is the most bold and energetic. She is often very animated, gesturing when she speaks. Her presence is not easily ignored, although she is the smallest.

It is during battle that her true aggressive nature is revealed. Hiling is very much Ribbons’ pet, well trained to attack when he gives the command. He channels her destructive force for his own purposes. She obeys without question, eager to go into battle where she feels she'll be of the most use to him. It’s what she feels gives her life meaning. She laughs at the carnage she wreaks, having herself a good time as long as things are going her way. Hiling has all the enthusiasm of a new recruit, with the skill of a veteran. Upon her entry into the A-Laws, she was granted a special license, effectively allowing her the freedom to act independently. She is more than happy to make use of and flaunt her privileges.

With the exception of Ribbons, Hiling cares little for anyone but herself. She enjoys teasing her comrades, Innovade and human alike, and mocking her enemies in battle. When it comes to other people’s feelings, she has no tact whatsoever. For her own amusement, she would congratulate a fellow officer on a promotion he obtained by killing his father in front of another that had lost her parents. She would even tease a grieving comrade.

Though Innovades were originally meant to work alongside humans, she shares Ribbons’ attitude that they are an inferior species. Her commanding officers are no different. She will follow their strategies like a good soldier, as much as she resents it, but they will never have her respect. She comments on how hard it must be for humans to understand one another, unlike her kind, but makes no effort to understand them.

She doesn’t handle it as well when things turn out differently than she expected. Confident in the superiority of her kind, she is shocked when they are defeated at the hands of mere humans. Though she doesn’t have much in the way of feelings for her fellow Innovators, she is disturbed by their deaths. She can’t accept that everything she knows is wrong. Her unwillingness to think for herself, underestimating her opponent, and her reliance on technology eventually cost Hiling her life.

PROJECTED CLASS: Hiling does not specialize in any specific style of combat. She has been shown to be good at whatever she needs to do. However, no matter if she’s handling long range assault or close quarters combat, it is always with extreme aggression. She is a soldier who enjoys what she does and makes no secret of it. That’s why I would put her in Berserker class. She is a fighter at heart and gives her all, nearly to the point of recklessness. She would enjoy the kind of fighting where she doesn’t have to restrain herself.

OTHER: Hiling has enhanced senses suited for combat and does not age as a result of genetic engineering.

SAMPLES

FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: sample

I know the truth hurts, but the fact is, some of you, you know who you are, do not belong in the guilds you have chosen. You’re just getting in the way. I sure don’t have the time or patience to hold your hand and teach you how not to be a liability. Because that’s what you are. Stay stay out of my way until you manage to stop being such a failure. You’ll never make it to my level, but any improvement is better than nothing I guess.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE

"Yes, sir!" Hiling saluted automatically and then readied herself for combat. The city was under attack and it was up to her and the others to be the first line of defense.

In this situation, there was no thought given to what she wanted to do. Her orders were clear: subdue enemy forces. Energy pulsed through her body at an alarming rate. That newfound ability, the force of nature inside of her which she could call upon in battle, was eager to be released. She gripped her axe with a strength unusual for a young woman her size. None of her comrades were even necessary in her opinion. She could take out all the monsters herself, but then again, it was more fun when there was someone she could show off in front of. Someone to impress so that she could prove how much better than them she really was.

The one person she cared about most would be waiting to hear about how she did in her first battle. She wanted to have a good story to tell him, to see his face and hear him praise her. That’s what gave meaning to everything she did. She had come to compulsively crave that sort of validation. It let her know that what she was doing was right and she fully expected to be punished for straying from the path he set for her. But that would never happen so long as she could help it. Without him, she would have no direction, and for someone like her with this much power, that could be dangerous to both others as well as herself. He offered her order to temper the chaos that made up her being. Her loyalty was the one thing she took very seriously.

Everything else, however, was just a game. She was never good at forming bonds with her fellow fighters, instead choosing to taunt and provoke them at every opportunity. It was entertaining to her. Should there come a time she needed their help, she might be out of luck, but that wasn’t something she ever considered. Her needs and wants always came first. Perhaps someday she would learn, but she had gotten away with that sort of behavior for so long it would be a hard habit to break.

"Let’s head out," she said, glancing back at her fellow guildmates. There was a gleam in her eye and a grin across her lips as she thought about all the enemies she would cut down on her mission. She would not lose.

IC
NAME: Dio Eraclea
CANON: Last Exile
CANON POINT: end of Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing
AGE: 18
APPEARANCE: here
PERSONALITY:
Dio is flighty (the joke is he's a pilot). He's described as whimsical and prone to slacking off and running off to do his own thing when he should be working or doing chores or whatever, and it's... well it's true. Very 'beat of his own drum,' that Dio. He generally behaves in this flighty, eccentric way because he somehow manages to have fun all the time. Almost everything is fun for him, even (perhaps especially) boring, mundane things like carrying food around. This is generally because he's incredibly spoiled. Having lived for most of his life in more luxury than literally anyone else in the world (other than his sister), he has been raised to do whatever he wants and have a great time while doing it. It's only been about two years since he made a Great Lifestyle Change, so while he has adjusted well to the obvious less-luxurious changes (he's spoiled but he has so many Issues with his childhood that he was very eager to get away from that life), he's very excited about... chores. Taking orders. Being a "normal" guy. Ordinary things make him extraordinarily happy, and he can and will find something to be joyous about in the most boring of activities--like engine repair. Engine repair is so fucking fun you guys!!

Despite the fact that he is pretty out there and runs off on a whim without saying anything (he left a crew of friends for six months without a word and joined a new crew of new friends; they didn't seem too upset about it), he is a smart guy. You wouldn't expect it from how he acts - in fact, all of his friends think he's super weird and one of them even says to his face that "[his] interesting news is always stupid." He sings these little made up songs and yells about flying!!! so much that some of his friends don't believe he's even capable of being a serious double agent type (which he kind of is, incidentally). Dio likes sharing miscellaneous, useless information, but he's not doing it for any reason other than he is genuinely interested. He is very smart: he plays chess super well!! and he's been an indisposable aid in both airship fleet battles and political strategy meetings, and he knows his way around a ship engine. But being smart isn't very important to him; given the interactions with his sister and the admission that he's had, like, one friend by the time Last Exile starts, it's pretty likely that he had nothing better to do with his time than study. Dio is (was) a member of the Guild, which, on this space-colony-fake-planet called Prester, is supposed to act as mediator between the two nations of Disith and Anatoray. This means that, before the Guild's eventual downfall, they were In Charge. Dio's older sister, the now deceased Maestro Delphine, was even more In Charge than everyone else, and groomed (or attempted to groom) her precious baby brother in her image as cunning, ruthless, and brilliant. Dio is cunning and brilliant. For a while he's ruthless at first, but it turns out to be because he doesn't know anything else - he is actually a big softie and he loves everyone and they love him.

As for cunning and brilliant, worth mentioning is the Thing with the Ships. Dio is a Vanship pilot; in Last Exile, this means he pilots small, two-man ships. And he is very, very good at it. The best pilot in the series, legitimately. On top of his brilliant flying skills (he flies a two-man ship by himself, without the help of a navigator which you really should have, technically, but) he is also gifted in hand-to-hand combat, like most Guild members. In the Guild they prize superiority and intelligence over hard work, so Dio has turned out a little bit lazy but quite good at the things he does bother putting his back into. His laziness extends to his interactions with Authority, mainly in the way he goes out of his way to reject organized military-type things. He loves taking orders! -- but only sometimes, and only from his friends. Organized military action bothers him and he doesn't like putting up with all the posturing and uptight, rigid rule-bound stuff. It just wouldn't go well with his habit of doing anything he wants, you see.

Dio's interactions and relationships with other people come in three flavors: friends!, crushing & paralyzing guilt, and his sister. But in reverse order: first, his sister. Maestro Delphine is the Big Bad of Last Exile, and long story short she was not a very pleasant person to be around. She was also very, very attached to Dio, in a bizarre fashion where she treated him like an exalted precious sibling and also her favorite pet. It was creepy. This didn't get to Dio until he was about 6, when she murdered their parents in order to take control of the Guild. Dio saw her do it; she didn't know, and so she thought that his sudden discomfort and sadness was about being lonely without their parents around. This actually sparked a deep and terrible fear of his older sister, as Dio never really managed to shake the feeling that she was going to kill him, next (hence his eagerness to get away from the Guild and talk to normal people). Although Delphine has since died and it's been two years, the problems Dio has involving his sister still haunt him and he is profoundly uncomfortable even thinking about her. He is additionally traumatized in a way tangentially related to his sister, which involves his birthday and his best friend Lucciola. Lucciola was "given" to Dio by Delphine after she killed their parents; he is essentially Dio's servant, although Dio adores him and they're best friends 4evr. Until Delphine kills him, too. There is a lot of complicated Guild stuff involving Dio being ceremonially brainwashed and Lucciola finally deciding that he valued Dio more than Delphine and having their other friends take Dio away from the Guild, and in the end Lucciola sacrificed himself for Dio's freedom.

This, along with some other interactions Dio never got a chance to apologize for, absolutely destroys him. Lucciola is the most important person in the world to him (he basically starts screaming and crawls out of his ship in midair when he breaks his brainwashing and realizes Lucciola isn't there) and still is--the reason he flies a two-man ship all by himself? The backseat is Lucciola's seat. He won't let anyone touch the controls and he talks to the empty seat sometimes, and basically he is not over it. The guilt of letting that happen to Lucciola is enough, but Dio also has to live with the fact that he took Lucciola's presence for granted and has to live on without him even though it feels really pointless to do so. He's learned from it, at least, that taking people for granted is a bad thing, and so every time he makes a cute new friend he treasures them dearly and is not a stranger with his affections. Which brings us to friends: Dio wants to be everyone's friend. Unless someone starts stabbing his friends or something unforgivable, he wants to be friends. On the sliding scale from total stoic to that guy who's in everyone's business, the range of people Dio wants to be friends with is all of them. Whether or not he lets people get really close to him is another story; the whole Lucciola problem and his general inexperience with close friendships makes up unconsciously put up walls sometimes, but friendly acquaintances? Oh yes. All the time. Everyone.

When it comes to the subset of Dio's friends which is everyone, he has a very strong protective streak. He will do all manner of reckless and dangerous things to protect his friends, especially those who are younger than him. Dio likes kids and kids love Dio. He has that kind of open and friendly demeanor that might make Serious Adults get tired of his antics, but kids flock to him and he is totally okay with that. It helps that kids are also more receptive when he shows off, which he does all the time. Put him in a ship and be prepared for him to do a bunch of loops and unreasonably difficult turns just for the hell of it, even if he should be doing something related to an actual mission.

A final note is that he is super tactless, because he finds it funny. He will point out that dumb thing you just did, and he will totally do it in front of everyone. But he means well.

PROJECTED CLASS: Probably Performer. Dio already has considerable martial arts skills and so wouldn't feel the need to join a guild that focuses on more weaponized combat, and on top of that he is really thoroughly disinterested in organized military-type obligations, so anything that sounds like it will be rigid combat training (whether or not it truly is) will put him off. He's not a scholarly type or a thieving type, and genuinely just likes to show off, so performing would keep him entertained. Also he really likes to sing, although not necessarily well...
OTHER: none!

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: a test drive yonder
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE
Truthfully, Dio had signed up with a guild that sounded the least strenuous. Or the least strenuous while also not being boring, like reading books all day. He hadn't meant to, initially, but when he was loitering in any location that would let him sit there long enough, singing loudly, enough people stopped and asked him if he was with the Performers Guild that he eventually had to ask one of them what they were talking about. Having more than one Guild--it's still strange to him, although he knows that even at home there were Guilds besides the one he'd been a part of. At first he's wary, when he gives the recruiter woman a nervous smile and laughs and says something stupid about songs for birthday parties, but he's welcomed in readily enough. While he's here, he figures, before he goes back out into the crowded streets to stop more people just for a chat - he ought to look at the rooms. He hums all the way there, and when he stops in the doorway to the lodgings his humming hits an excited crescendo. Bunk beds! He all but swan dives into the nearest one.

The thing about bunk beds is Dio loves them. His favorite part about being on any manner of large ship had always been the rooms, for how small and cozy they were (he'd had many a one-sided disbelieving conversation with crewmen on the Silvana, in particular, who didn't seem to understand his fixation on tiny and cold metal rooms). This room, in comparison, is spectacular. Dio spends five minutes rolling back and forth between the edge of the bed and the wall. He hums again. Then he vaults himself upright and out of the bed, looks around, then skips two rungs at a time to get up the ladder onto the top bunk.

They aren't labeled. Surely no one will object to him trying them all out. He doesn't roll around this time, at least, but is so overcome with excitement! that he grips the side of the bunk and hangs his whole upper body over the side to exclaim just how excited he is -- before remembering that, ah, there isn't anyone... in the room. Dio pauses.

"Oh," he says to the empty mattress. It's rumpled from his messing around and almost looks like someone other than him had been in it recently. Somehow that makes him feel profoundly lonely. He pushes himself back up to the top bunk and shifts to hang his legs over the side. He swings his feet and sighs. "There's no one here..." Something itches in the back of his throat, threatening to make his eyes water and his nose burn, and he laughs and looks down. His hair falls in his face and he thinks of the people who aren't with him, who would love this place, surely--certainly not this place, this guild where they'd surely say he truly belonged, him and his singing, and if only they had a Vanship for him it would be perfect for keeping him out of their hair...

Dio takes in a sharp breath and tugs at the goggles around his neck, pulling them up to cover his eyes. As he looks around the room he says, "What do you think, Immelmann? Isn't it--interesting?" His voice cracks on the last word and he sighs again, flopping backwards onto the mattress and raising his arms above him. He moves his hands, in rough approximation of a ship... "Immelmann turn!"

Then his hands drop to his chest and he lays there, looking at the ceiling, bored and lonely.

NAME: Thorin II Oakenshield
CANON: The Hobbit (films)
CANON POINT: End of the first movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
AGE: 195ish (he's middle aged for a dwarf, about 45-50 in human years)
APPEARANCE: Here you go. One dwarf in all his majesty!
kinginexile: All icons by this journal. They suck. (Majestically stands alone with ponies.)

[personal profile] kinginexile 2013-05-11 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY:
At first meeting Thorin Oakenshield one could find him serious, stubborn, rude and rather cankerous in nature. If you're an elf then expect any of this in threefold. He is also a prideful and honorable sort, that being most dwarves, finding favor with those who are loyal to him and his company. He has no room for traitors or those who show any ill will towards his kin and can hold quite the grudge for anyone daring to be either. Though he is all of these things, he is also caring and has his softer moments, though they are few and not often seen.

Why Thorin is such a grumpy and hardened dwarf starts back to Erebor with the taking of his home by the dragon Smaug. He was a wee dwarf of only twenty-four when the dragon attacked and kicked the dwarves out of their mountain kingdom to keep their hoard of gold, prompting Thorin to have to grow up very quickly. Twenty-four is an adult for most humans, but he was younger still than his nephews Kili and Fili when this happened, still just a boy by dwarven standards. Exiled from their home the dwarves traveled long and hard to build a new home in the Blue Mountains, Ered Luin. He had no time to live the more carefree life he could have before in Erebor, he had to work and strive for his people, along with his grandfather and father.

Not even some thirtish years later, just a young dwarf prince just over the age of fifty, and still younger than his nephews mind you, Thorin joins his kin in trying to take back the dwarven home of Moria, in the Battle of Azanulbizar. His grandfather, the then 'king' of the fallen Erebor was slain, beheaded by the pale orc, Azog the Defiler. His father is said to have gone mad with grief and never seen again and his younger brother Frerin is also slain in battle. Thorin loses most of his immediate family in this one battle, becoming the direct heir to the throne of Erebor, further cementing him into a very early adulthood for one of his age.

Stubbornness and pride are merely something born in dwarves, but he takes it to a whole other level, along with holding grudges for over a hundred years. At the fall of Erebor the elven king Thranduil held back on helping the dwarves, most likely in fear of his own kin being slain by the dragon Smaug, but Thorin took this as a slight against his kind that he's let fester and grow for years. His hate and dislike of elves is one that almost costs them their journey, if not for the guidance of Gandalf, they would not been able to find out information that greatly effected the whole quest. At first meeting the elven ruler of Rivendell, Elrond, Thorin is quite rude to him, even though Elrond is nothing but pleasant to him and his company. Even more still when Elrond offers them food and his home to rest in, he does not trust letting the elf help them with their quest, brushing off his advice as if it were nothing. The mere mention of elves or anything of their kind has the dwarf in a poor mood easily, though Gandalf is quick to chide him for it.

What Thorin seems to value above all is loyalty and honor. Though their company is made of few, he states he would rather them than all the armies of the Iron Hills for they came when he called. They were the few loyal to the line of Durin who would join him on this quest to reclaim their homeland of Erebor and that was more important to him than an army that would not have their hearts set into their quest. It is a huge reason that he distrusts and doubts Bilbo for the large part of the beginning of their journey. The hobbit is nothing but uncertain and waffling about the quest and much of an inconvenience being that he can't fight and has little use in their company until Erebor. He has no reason to believe that Bilbo is loyal to their cause until the hobbit risks his own life to save Thorin from losing his head in the failed stand off against Azog.

It leads up nicely to something Thorin is poor at showing most of the time, or feels he can't afford to as he must be a strong and determined leader for his people, the softer side of the would be king under the mountain. When he realizes he's been quite poor to Bilbo and doubted him for nothing all this time he is quick to apologize and show his appreciation for what the hobbit did for him. He even manages to crack a smile, rare as that is for the dwarf. It seems he only relents his hard demeanor around those he really trusts, Balin being a good example. They've both been through the loss of Erebor, the battle at Moria and the loss of the king and the hardships of their kind as they made a new home in the Blue Mountains. They've grown up with one another and been there through it all and Balin knows that Thorin carries everything on his shoulders, never relenting, never giving up. When Balin tries to suggest to Thorin that they don't have to go through with taking back Erebor, that their new home is good and Thorin has done well by them all, the would be king looks saddened. The usual sure and hard outer shell of his person let down in front of one of his closest friends as he seems to consider this, but knows that he cannot. He believes there is nothing better for his people than to return to Erebor and that he must do this. He states himself that "There is no choice Balin, not for me." Thorin would do anything to restore the glory of his people, to let them live as he remembered back when he was but a young dwarf himself.

Above all else he would do whatever it takes to protect those he cares for, friend and family alike. Even facing down Azog the Defiler. Having done so once back as a young dwarf in the battle of Moria and fatally wounding the orc, or so he thought, and once more when his company were hanging on for dear life and cornered by the orc and his warg riders. Azog had the advantage and still he stood and faced him head on and alone to protect his company as it seemed there was no getting out of their predicament, then he would die trying to save them. It is his unyielding bravery that has spurred on many of his kin to take up arms and fight till they could no longer fight any longer. Winning battles that they had thought lost.

PROJECTED CLASS: Out of all the classes I find myself gravitating towards Paladin for Thorin. He's able to use more than just swords in his canon, but seems to rely more heavily on them, he can wield them one or two handed, which works well for the grip spell. While dwarves have no magic prowess in his canon, I do find the offensive spells good for someone like Thorin who would be in battle among others, ones that would help him protect others, take blows for them and heal them if he can. Even when battered and beaten down, there is a spell that will help him prevail, which works well for Thorin, as he isn't one to give up easily.

OTHER: Being a dwarf he's very hearty and can take quite the beating. He's also musically inclined, though most dwarves enjoy singing and playing instruments to some degree, even if they aren't always the best. He stands at 4'10" which is actually tall for his race, most being average of 4'6ish.

PERSONALITY: Shizuo is introduced as the personification of violence and, for a good while, we have a ton of evidence to support this portrayal.

Someone who is referred to as one of the most dangerous people in Ikebukuro and tosses vending machines and street signs around like they're made out of papier-mâché doesn't exactly put forward an image of peaceful serenity. Punching a man clean out of his clothes - fandom will never forget that one - doesn't hurt his violent image. The root of his infamous violent nature is the poor guy's uncontrollable and frighteningly short temper; short to the point where it becomes more and more impossible to avoid setting him off as any given conversation drags on. Whether this is with a stranger - a journalist who wants to interview him for a magazine - or one of the few people he has allowed himself to get close to - Simon, for example - doesn't seem to matter.

Shizuo's tantrums, for lack of a better term, often stem from his simplistic ideas of right and wrong. His brother stealing his pudding, a grown man who claims he loves a woman he stalks, a stupid teenager who doesn't know anything about the girl he claims to love, putting innocent people in harm's way. Y'know, the usual. Although that's not to say he doesn't flip his shit at pretty much anything and everything else, because he does. Frequently.

Only one thing tends to set him off without fail - Izaya Orihara. Either the man himself or just the name. Both work. Their relationship boils down to one of mutual hatred - Shizuo didn't like the feeling he got from Izaya since the very first day they met. This was cemented when Izaya attacked him with a knife minutes later and things would only get worse between them over the years. Shizuo seems to judge his hatred of and anger at others by using Izaya as a benchmark. He tells Seiji that he'll let him off with a swift headbutt - in return for multiple stabs - simply because he "likes [him] more than Izaya." I won't go into too much detail about their relationship, but it should be noted that while Izaya would be happy is Shizuo dropped dead, Shizuo would be happy if Izaya stayed out of his life for good. There's a fine line there, sure, but it's an important one because it reveals a key fact about Shizuo's personality.

Whenever he subcums to these bouts of rage he enters a super-human state and leaves a trail of destruction behind him. Street-lamps ripped out the ground, fences buckled and bent, whoever pissed him off left in a beaten heap. But the thing you've got to understand is that Shizuo hates violence with every fibre of his being. Since he didn't grow up reading violent manga or playing mature video games, he feels as though his freakish strength and hair-trigger temper are his own fault. There must be something wrong with him if he ended up as such a monstrous kid while his brother was so calm and stoic. After his attempt to save a grown woman who was kind to him from some Yakuza thugs ended with her being caught up in his violence, the young Shizuo grew to develop a complex about his own strength. He distanced himself from other people because he hates the thought of them getting hurt by him, because he couldn't stand to be around people who feared him for his strength. Celty, Simon and other unconventional types found in the city are the kind of people he allows himself to get close to - even these characters can't be considered normal by any stretch of the imagination.

While the first of his violent outbursts resulted in an attempt to attack his brother, Kasuka, with a fridge, Shizuo has grown into the kind of guy who’ll do whatever necessary to keep his brother safe and happy. This might be because his brother was never scared of Shizuo’s extreme strength; but it might also have stemmed out of guilt. The relationship he has with his brother shows us that Shizuo actually has a pretty poor self image. Kasuka comes off as emotionally dead, to put it bluntly, because he grew up controlling his emotions in an attempt to make up for Shizuo’s lack of control and ease the burden on their family. Although Shizuo looks up to him and cares about him more than anyone in the world, he feels inferior to the point where he considers it an insult to Kasuka when people compare the two of them. Even the suggestion that Kasuka is disappointed in him can send Shizuo into a little bout of depression. His desire to be someone his brother can be proud of can be seen in how he still wears the bartender outfits Kasuka bought in bulk despite having lost his bartending job. Oh, and any clothing damage tends to send him into a blind fury because he doesn't want a gift from Kasuka to get ruined.

Shizuo is so fixated on his inability to function as a normal person that he’s blind to all his good points. Not everyone sees him as an unstoppable monster, some people see him as a reliable and friendly enough guy, but this is the image he’s stuck with. He thinks of himself as lonely and monstrous despite how many good friends he has and has let this get in the way of his social abilities. It isn’t until a swarm of cursed sword possessed zombies attack him because of how much they love his strength that he can even begin to see himself as something other than brute strength given form. Which is a shame because, underneath the yelling and the smashing up public property, Shizuo is pretty much a huge dorky loser in a bartender outfit. He’s the kind of guy who prefers milk and sweets over beer and curry, who remembers dorky lines from action movies and waits for the perfect chance to use them, who thinks two serial killers brawling in public are common thieves because they swiped his briefcase.

Basically, Shizuo's personality has been shaped by his unfortunate strength. This makes other people think of him as a monstrous man, often before they've even had a chance to meet him face to face, rather than seeing him for the calm and reserved person who loves his friends and family to death that he might've grown into if his temper (and, I guess, Izaya) hadn't gotten in the way during his school years.

PROJECTED CLASS: The Paladin class is a good fit for Shizuo for a bunch of reasons: they don't fight for the sake of fighting, which sits well with Shizuo's own views on violence, yet they have a great deal of strength similar to his canon abilities. Their healing and defensive abilities'll also give him the chance to help other people which I'm sure he'd appreciate and, let's be real, will make it easier for this aloof idiot to build up CR with people. It also helps that the guild is the first one characters encounter when they show up. Ha ha.
OTHER: Quick question - since Shizuo's ability is explained as his brain removing the limits placed on his body, would it remain at full strength in game or would it be nerfed to above average human strength?

NICOLAS BROWN | GANGSTA | UNRESERVED | 2/2

[personal profile] dogtag 2013-05-11 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY: Like so many, Nic is a product of his environment. He was brought up as an unwanted remnant of an unwanted past. He knew very well from early on that he wasn't the same as other people, but he was also told that everyone else was better than he would ever be, because they were normal.

Nic is, understandably, bitter about this, developing an attitude of permanent annoyance and indifference towards the rest of the world. He hates that humans can be 'normal' and feel as if they have a reason to band together even in a unsympathetic world, but he's also resigned to this fact. He gets that he won't be the same as normal humans and that Twilights, despite their superior physical activities, won't be able to survive. Since he thinks he already knows how he'll end up, he's apathetic towards everything else that happens — insults, crimes, and anything else that life throws at him.

Nicolas still does things that show more of his personality under the general indifference. He defies the three principles constantly, for example, overdosing on the pills that give him more access to his abilities, though that leads to unfortunate repercussions. He doesn't like being regulated or supervised, and his actions often lead to Worick being forced to 'order' him to stop. It's a habit that no one approves of, but he keeps doing it anyway. Since he's known since he was about ten that he would likely die before he hit forty, he doesn't see it as a problem that he can change.

In addition to being self-destructive, he tends to be a hazard to others, too. He was raised by a group of mercenaries that despised him, and he's grown up to be a mercenary himself. He has few qualms about using violence to solve his problems, or selling his skills as a super soldier. Despite his jadedness and lack of morality, he also tends to be immature and lazy. Also although he's capable of talking with reasonable accuracy, he calls it tiring and expects Worick to translate for him. He reacts to jabs or jokes at his expense (usually about his height) with great annoyance, though he likes picking on other people's quirks and making their lives generally difficult.

He has little regard for other people's safety even outside of his job, viewing violence as indifferently as everything else. He does have a few — well, more like two — people that he cares for. One is Nina, a young intern at the office of a black market doctor, and the other is 'Veronica', another Twilight who appears only in a near-comatose state. So uh, that should give you a good idea of Nic's attitude towards other people.

He gets along with people more out of genuine necessity or some sort of empathy, generally speaking. His partner Worick has been with him for years, and they know each other better than either of them really want to — which is why they have to work together. And then there's Alex, of whom Worick is fond. Nic, though, is stand-offish about new people and especially women, and they hardly speak to each other. Nic's one relationship that isn't necessary is with Nina, whose optimism is enough to make him slightly nicer around her. He's stiff and uncomfortable even then, but it's an improvement over his usual attitude. Even the police chief in the city, who has acted as a father figure to both Nic and Worick, gets threatened when he tries to impress his power over them. Backed by Worick, Nicolas smashes his police cruiser and makes it very clear that neither of them will back down.

PROJECTED CLASS: Mercenary. Nicolas, in canon, is in fact a mercenary (and handyman, but mostly mercenary). He handles a sword as his preferred weapon, and his physical abilities are well beyond those of normal humans. Even without those inhuman abilities, he's had over twenty years of experience fighting people who want to kill, not just wound. Besides, he's pretty rough around the edges himself and shows way more excitement when fighting than a normal person should.

[ This sucks. Nic hates talking, first of all, and second of all, using this piece of equipment is more trouble than it's worth. So it's only weeks in, after he really has no other choice, that he uses it.

who the fuck even thought that this would be a good idea

[ Which idea, he doesn't specify, because this entire place seems to him like bad choices all around. ]

going on a party and hunting monsters or whatever in this fairytale place not my thing

basically what i wanna know is has anyone tried killing the guards

[ That's it, mostly. Oh, one more thing -- ]

show me your face or text or don't bother answering

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE Being in a world with dragon and dungeons isn't so bad, Nicolas decides. It's the fucking people. They look weird, dress weird, and they don't know how to sign. At all. Usually, in Ergastulum, most people at least recognized what he was trying to do. Here he either has to talk, and get strange looks for his awkward diction, or just play charades until someone gets it.

That said, steel is a language that everyone speaks. He keeps his sword on him. It stays at his side nearly everywhere he goes. Even after joining the guild, they'd suggested getting a new weapon, but he'll stick with this one. It still smells like smoke and blood from the city, and it's nearly comforting how familiar it feels in his hands. One day it'll probably break, but he'll use it until then.

And even stranger, he doesn't need Celebre here. At first, he'd been frustrated. He can't jump or recover nearly as quickly, and he can't cut things apart like he used to be able to. But then, he realized the long-term implications. He'd expected the symptoms to show up within days. Dizziness, blurring sight, but none of it's come up. It's freeing, but at the same time, disorienting. Those pills kept him on a schedule, told him that he had to make it to the next day or next time he swallowed far more than he was supposed to and Worick had to ground him by slamming him onto the ground. He's still not sure if he likes this more or not, but to be fair, he's just been trying not to think about it.

Now, Nic scowls at the mission information. It's not all that different from the kind of thing he does at home, but it's been quite a trip, adjusting to a new world. There are monsters here -- actual monsters, not just people who did awful things. They're almost better, because they fight differently, but they also don't talk back.

Well, he was never big on talking, anyway. That was Worick's area. So was listening, come to think of it, and memory. Nic's all about the fighting and not much else.

His hand tightens on the hilt of his sword, almost casually. Well, many-headed snakes still die like regular snakes, don't they? And if they don't, he'll come up with some other way to finish the mission.

IC
NAME: Asami Sato
CANON: Legend of Korra
CANON POINT: Post-Book One
AGE: 18
APPEARANCE: SUGAR, SPICE & ERRYTHING NICE
PERSONALITY: Asami is a polite upper-class young woman who uses her wealth for generous deeds. Her easy-going personality opens the doorway for new relationships, as she is typically eager to meet new people, make friends, and hopefully win over their hearts with her charm and gifts. She is as glamorous as she is giving, and she is as thrill seeking as she is calm and proper. Asami is genuine and earnest, selfless to a fault, and she has no qualms about unleashing her tough side whenever need be. In a sense, she can blend into almost any situation.

But she isn’t perfect despite the impression she intends to give. On the contrary, Asami displays a sort of naivety when it comes to making new friends; for example, her eagerness to buy expensive gifts and to show off her home suggests a mentality that spoiling new acquaintances will get them to like her. It works on some people—Mako and Bolin, for example, are impressed by what she has to offer upon meeting her—while others are readily turned off. Some are inclined to assume she is prissy, spoiled, and superficial by the way she carries herself, and she acknowledges that. Asami doesn’t like to be thought of as a “daddy’s little girl,” and her actions will go to show otherwise.

Furthermore, Asami is more ready to stick up for others than for herself. The girl can bite; when her father is accused of supporting the Equalist movement against benders in Republic City, she does not hold back when defending his honor against Korra and the authorities. Later on, she shows a passionate distaste towards her father when he tries to convince her into joining him on the Equalist agenda. She knows her right from wrong, and she will fight tooth and nail—with a pinch of sass—for any given cause. The matters she neglects pertain to her; when she learns that Mako and Korra have kissed behind her back, she puts up with the issue until her jealousy unwittingly surfaces. The issue comes up once, and then she is passive-aggressive towards the pair, especially Mako. This is also a clue-in that her priorities are aligned so that she puts larger conflicts before her personal ones. Along the way, she is not above displaying jealousy, and she is certainly not above petulant guilt tripping. Asami maintains a façade of control around others and reflects where she can’t be seen.

The larger conflict in the series is the war against benders in Republic City, a movement issued by Amon to relinquish bending abilities in order to equalize its citizens. Asami’s father, Hiroshi, is allied with Amon unbeknownst to her, and when she does find out, she retaliates without question. The most important thing to her is to fight for what is right and to keep the peace. She joins Korra’s team as a devoted ally through thick and thin, despite all of the internal drama, and she displays a sense of focused duty when she joins General Iroh and Bolin to disarm the Equalists’ supply of biplanes and mecha tanks. Her resolve doesn’t let up when she is pitted against her father; rather, she throws herself completely and skillfully into that battle and any combative situation. Asami is unwaveringly determined to carry out her goals and her missions, and she will do whatever it takes to be successful in her endeavors.

Notably, Asami is a vehicle enthusiast and a big fan of probending. She test-drives vehicles for Future Industries, and she is quick to pick up on the mechanics of a mecha tank based on the structure of a Future Industries forklift. She is fast, dangerous, and tactful on the road in both races and chases, a contrast to her sweet and polite demeanor in her day-to-day life. As for probending, she recognizes Mako fairly quickly as a player for the Fire Ferrets, suggesting that she will immerse herself into an interest or hobby when she picks one up.

Another quirk of hers is her excessive display of affection. If Asami wants a date, she is going to set one up without question. She is quick to trust a romantic interest, and she publically showers them hugs and all sorts of kisses: the standard kiss on the lips, on the cheek, the Eskimo kiss, and the blow-me-a-kiss. Pet names are a regular thing, as are favors on the behalf of her father. She offers up her father’s time and money when Mako realizes she is the daughter of the famous entrepreneur, and she offers the brothers his home when they are kicked out of the probending arena’s attic. In her own words, “It’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission.”

Lastly, Asami is sensitive to the moods and actions of others. She cares greatly about the well being of her friends, earnestly reassuring when they are down and backing them up when they are in a tiff. She is extremely sympathetic, especially to Korra when she has doubts about her ability to be a good Avatar as well as when she loses her bending. Asami does confide in others from time to time as well, such as when she falls into Mako’s arms after losing her father and her home.

Otherwise, the world is her oyster. With her upper-class background, she developed a high standard of living (evidenced by her characteristic accessorizing, the gratuitous amount of stuff she imports from her home to Air Temple Island, and her distaste for the food she is offered in the secret camp). She is essentially an independent young woman who does not need to be persuaded to act in one way or another. She is a team player who will take orders, but she acts because she thinks one way is right or one way is wrong. Carefree on a regular day, it is very easy to get along with Asami. In dire straits, she is valuably resourceful. Although she has as many pitfalls as anybody else, she is a very pleasant person to get to know in general, and she is a good friend to have on one’s side.

PROJECTED CLASS: Gunner— Because if Asami isn't going to be cruising in a Satomobile, the least she could be given is some sort of gizmo or gadget to keep her mechanically inclined mind busy. The versatility guns provide will enable her to play with her options and master a variety of the same thing; the idea is akin to developing a mastery of a range of vehicles: mopeds, cars, forklifts, mecha-tanks, etc. Furthermore, in canon she handles a small, ranged hand-weapon (the electrified glove), and guns are similar in that aspect. The gunner class also allows room for mobility and acrobatics, an aspect suited to her self-defense background that could help her out in a pinch. Last but not least, Asami could stand to clean a little more cattle poo in her life.

Should she have the opportunity to subclass, Asami will most likely subclass as a Merchant due to her background as an entrepreneur's daughter. The Pugilist class is also worth looking into for its "Pressure" ability, which seems to be much like chi-blocking.

Asami would have been lying to herself if she said she didn't consider signing up with The Spider & Herb. It had nothing to do with keeping the company of her friends. In fact, if anything, even in a strange new world of castles and ethereal beasts and more collective foliage than she had ever seen in Republic City, she now quite preferred the extra space after getting used to all of it. Her relationships with them were still on muddy waters only time and air could have cleared. So it wasn't them.

It was the fantasy of bending coming to life. She also would have been fibbing if she insisted she never hopped around her room as a child pretending to move fire. Her father, sometimes lounging in the living room below her bedroom, could attest. Fire eventually became water when firebenders took her mother's life, and then she got bored and stopped altogether because metal and steel and wheels and speed grabbed her. She grabbed them back and made them hers. So when she fought alongside Korra, Mako, and Bolin, not once did she feel powerless. She was an asset. She was pretty confident of that.

Ever curious, Asami still couldn't bring herself to pledge allegiance to The Spider & Herb because she witnessed Korra lose her abilities and she witnessed the flame inside Mako extinguish. If she had joined them, maybe her accomplishments wouldn't have amounted as much to theirs. As the days wore on, she also felt an essence of herself absent from this world. A merchant treated her with disrespect the other day, and she mildly retaliated, but not to the extent to which she would have liked and there was no long haul drive to quell the unwanted heat in her blood. She yearned to feel the ground move fast below her, so fast that if she messed up she would have skidded along the road in a leather jacket and felt the heat and felt her mistake. Not that she wanted that. Recklessness without the burns was more her thing. But if she did mess up, there was something gratifying about getting back onto her feet and shaking out her hair and climbing into the driver's seat, if not right away then when she healed, to show herself she wasn't Daddy's helpless little girl.

She'd never felt so antsy before now.

Sylvia Spinnel may have swayed her when she once saw her. Asami didn't know her name, she didn't make her presence known right away, but she did see metal and loudness, holes that appeared in direct alignment with whatever the woman held in her hands without so much as a connecting line. A series of gunshots ("Quick Hits," apparently) dictated the rhythm of her heart and her fascination went wild.

"Hey! Could you do that again? You have to show me how that thing works. Oh, my name is Asami, by the way," and she insisted on a handshake, and she wasn't following normal sign-up procedures, but her enthusiasm was too big to care. It was a red hot balloon in her chest all the way up until she was introduced to the cabins and the stables, then it deflated. Just a little. It deflated a little more when her first task was to clean the communal bathroom.

And all of those feelings, and her desire for some substitute for movement, landed her in this communal bathroom, where the stables waited for her outside, and she had to convince herself on her hands and knees with a bucket and a sponge that this was going to be worth-it.

As long as she was here, she'd make something hers again.

[personal profile] kindhearted 2013-05-11 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY:

Meet Roji, a guy who hunts ghosts for a living, but is actually terrified of ghosts at the same time.

Roji's kind and pure nature is the main piece of his personality, and it's often brought up by other characters throughout the story. Friendly and polite, Roji has no trouble making friends (though this often puts him in dangerous positions since he is too trusting). Roji is always willing to help others, and often puts others' needs before his own. He has even saved those who have treated him poorly in the past. When someone is struggling or is in a bad place, Roji is willing to attempt to cheer them up or help in any way he can. When he is in danger, he would rather make sure that his friends are safe first. For example, when he was being possessed by a ghost at one point in the story, he requested that the ghost at least help Muhyo afterword if it truly was going to have its way with him. He is also fiercely loyal to his friends, especially Muhyo. It doesn't matter if power or wealth is involved. When Page Klaus tested his character and offered him a different job that grant him more power and training, Roji firmly refused, stating that he would never turn his back on his partner. His pure heart and desire to help others is likely the source of his extremely high willpower.

The second major personality point for Roji is his fluctuating confidence. He's prone to being pretty emotional in general, crying at ghost sob stories or when negative things in general happen. He's kind of a sap. Mission-wise, when things are going well, of course he's going to be very confident. However, straight after the event is over, he realizes that he was being overconfident and scolds himself for it. He has a very hard time giving himself a pat on the back every now and then, even when he succeeds at something. He always feels that he can do better. An example of this is when he used his "super fab tech" (he's good at coming up with little inventions) in order for his allies to defeat an extremely powerful enemy. Instead of being confident about it, he instead treated that idea as just an idea and not really helping. He often compares himself to his colleagues of higher rank and skill, and beats himself up over not having as much knowledge as them. His central goal throughout the series is to pull his own weight properly assist Muhyo, so when he is unable to help in a situation where his colleagues are, it's a serious blow to his confidence. At times, he even got jealous over such events, which lead to Muhyo chewing him out pretty bad. However, with a little bit of reassuring, he is usually able to bounce back and focus on the task at hand.

The third major part of Roji's personality is the fact that he is constantly learning. Roji is often seen marveling at various things in the story, be it new abilities of ghosts, or other elements within the world of Magic Law. While Roji has heavily studied ghosts and is very knowledgeable about them, that's...about it. He still has a lot to learn about the world and the way things work, especially within the world of Magic Law. For example, in the world of Magic Law, practitioners are able to use different types of tools known as artifacts. Practitioners are encouraged to use different types of artifacts to figure out what suits them best. Even far into the series, Roji has only seen less than a dozen of them. It is shown in the story that a couple times where he attempts to use new artifacts backfire and someone gets hurt. However, when he is able to concentrate and when the going is tough, Roji is able to pull through and learn new and helpful spells to protect his friends. All the spells he learns throughout the story can be used with novice artifacts like basic wards and the pen of wards.

Lastly, some more minor traits. While back at the office, Roji takes care of all the housekeeping. Even though it's a lot of busywork, he actually likes it. He noted that he excelled in Home Ec., math, and science in school, and it definitely shows. He does a lot of reading, notably on ghosts and the basic Magic Law stuff. He's also a fan of cooking, and is especially fond of tea and sweets (cake in particular). He tries to be as frugal as possible because the bureau is pretty much eternally broke due to being so small and virtually unknown (we're talking like living on $3 a day). He's known to jump at any sale possible. It's stated in one of the Q&A segments of the manga that he's the one who is able to keep himself and Muhyo alive by knowing how to cook filling meals on extremely small amounts of money.

I expanded some more on strengths/weaknesses and other misc. details I couldn't find anywhere to fit into the main paragraphs here, if you'd like to take a look. Sorry it's linked out, it gets a little long.

PROJECTED CLASS: Acolyte ➤ Oracle
In canon, Roji is a practitioner of Magic Law, which is used to banish harmful ghosts and other dark entities from the world. He plays a defensive role, using protective magic (barriers, wards to slow the ghosts down, etc.) to provide cover for his partner Muhyo while he does the actual banishing of ghosts. Not only are Oracles supportive in this way, but their way of life is the most similar to Roji's. It'd be fitting for him to join the Acolyte guild for these reasons.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:

Today was the day. After reading up on the various guilds, Roji had finally come to a conclusion on which guild to join, and was going to head over there to look into getting enlisted. He was going to join the Acolytes!

There was just one little problem, though. He accidentally left his map behind, and he only realized it after a half hour of walking. He had done his best to memorize that map, and more importantly the guild's location on the map, but when he attempted to recall it in a panic, his mind totally blanked. And then it hit him: he didn't even know where he was now, and had no idea how many different turns he had originally taken. He was completely lost. Again. Oh, well this was just great. What was he going to do now? And that's when fear really started to kick in.

As he was frantically tearing through his belongings to see if he somehow missed it, a kind passerby happened to take notice and called out to him.

"Oh honey, what's the matter? Did you lose something?" She questioned, giving the now teary-eyed young man a concerned look. She was an older woman dressed in less than pristine clothing, but she had a very welcoming expression. Roji questioningly glanced up at her from his pile of belongings that now looked like a hurricane had hit them. The woman's kind smile made him feel a little better, but he was still somewhat frightened over the current circumstances.

"W-Well, it's just my map... I was going to go join the Godling's Sect today, but I forgot my map and I don't remember which direction it is from here." He explained, woefully starting to reorganize his things. "I don't even remember my way back to my room, so I'm kind of at a loss of what to do now..."

The woman just chuckled and rested a hand on Roji's shoulder. "Well, don't you worry a second longer, child. I know my way around this city. When you've grown up here, you tend to know the layout by the back of your hand." And with that, she began to tell Roji the exact directions on how to get to the Acolyte guild from where they were, and she even helped him figure out a return trip home if he needed to get back there to claim any final belongings before moving in to the guild. Luckily Roji had some paper on him so he could write it down.

When they finished, Roji was so happy and thankful that he was nearly in tears again.

"Thank you so much, Miss! I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't been here!"

"Oh, it was no trouble at all." The kind old woman replied. "You have a safe trip to Tinwick now!"

Roji thanked her once again, then went back on his way. In a sprint, no less! He was so excited to finally be back on the road and in the right direction again. According to the woman's directions, the Godlings Sect was only a few miles away!

... But did he truly get sent in the right direction, though? Just as Roji was out of sight, the old woman started cackling.

"What a gullible little brat!" She laughed to herself, holding up a bag of coins to inspect their contents. It was Roji's coin bag! She must have taken it while they were discussing the guild location. And in a flash, she removed her costume, revealing herself to be nothing more than a young Gambler from the Thieves Guild! She grinned as she poured the coins into her hand. "Man, the newbies are just too easy these days."

Unfortunately for Roji, he was too trusting once again. The directions sent him traveling in near circles, and hours later, he found himself in the exact opposite location of where he wanted to be: the all-too creepy Nickelhollow. Devastated to discover this and his coin bag missing, he knew this was going to be a long day of finding the actual correct path to his chosen guild.

Aoi Miyoshi | Senkou no Night Raid | Not Reserved

[personal profile] dappster 2013-05-11 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY:
Aoi Miyoshi appears to be your average hardworking young man who is trying to make his living through the relatively new photography industry. Charismatic and attractive, he seems to have no trouble fitting into the business despite the economic recession affecting the entire world at the time. The year is 1931 and while tension continues to rise between his country, Japan, and China, he has still managed to settle quite nicely in Shanghai. In actuality, Aoi is a Japanese spy and his real name is Soichiro Ono and he happens to be the illegitimate son of a famous politician. While his history is vague at best, it's probably reasonable to suggest that his connection through his father and the convenience of his supernatural powers made him an ideal candidate for the specialized team of spies. Aoi has shown a lot of disdain for war and the destruction it causes, but he most likely joined hoping to make a difference in history and somehow reach peace through his work. Since losing his fiancée, Aoi also felt that he had nothing to lose by agreeing to be a spy.

Aoi comes across as worldly and fun-loving upon initial impression. He is often described as easy-going and kind, making him an all around approachable person who can get along with just about anyone. Because of his ability to adapt socially, he keeps a balance between professionalism and having fun, which shifts depending on who he's with. This friendly air he carries about him is more than likely a skill he picked up from all the travelling he's done in the past, as well as a result of his natural affinity for people. Unassuming appearances aside, Aoi is actually a thoughtful individual who has a lot to say, which separates from people pleasers, and prides himself in how proactive he is. Though generally respectful of people and their opinions, he will speak up when he strongly disagrees with problematic remarks made by others, which probably happens quite frequently in the time he is from. Fortunately, Aoi is a good judge of character and can easily separate simple-minded ignorance and good intentions from unjustified hatred and malice, which ultimately influences the severity of the 'bite' in responses.

He comes off as worldly through his understanding of individual circumstances, such as culture, upbringing, and things like impoverishment, economic related or otherwise. With his strong sense of empathy, he's able to reach out to and engage practically anyone, regardless of age-group, gender, race, or class. He's particularly drawn to girls who give of strong feminine energy, as he's both attracted to and endeared by the type. Usually, his boyish charm and old-fashioned chivalry is enough to have women vying for his attention and approval, but he comes across the occasional fire-cracker who won't fall for his lines so easily. While this can encourage him to be more creative, he often backs off out of respect for them and has no problem getting to know them as a friend rather than just your average gentleman. However, this doesn't stop him from finding reasons to tease them occasionally, yet it comes from a fond place, instead of being an automatic thing on his part. On the other side of the spectrum, older men are generally quick to take a liking to Aoi, as he goes out of his way to indulge them with a laugh or keep them entertained with lively conversation. As for everyone in between, Aoi will adjust as he sees fit, playing up either his more mature, sensitive side or his wittier, laid-back one as needed. He can act as the level-headed person in a tense situation or simply be the guy who gives a laugh to break the ice.

Despite how friendly he is, Aoi isn't exactly personable in that he's willing to share experiences and get particularly close to anyone. He manages to keep a distance without completely shutting people off, though he still refers to them as friends and treats them as such. Though this might be mostly due to his line of work, being undercover and all, he seems to be quite a private person regardless. However, if pressed enough, he has no problem sharing or elaborating some of his past, so it's not much of an issue in the end. He doesn't like to pry into the lives of others despite his willingness to be somewhat open about himself, though, which grants him the same courtesy from others in return usually. He can pick up on cues when someone is feeling particularly uncomfortable on certain subjects, and steers away from them accordingly. However, he seems to make exceptions with certain individuals and cases, such as his fiancée, who he discovers alive and later confronts in the series after taking her away from the military faction. Her reasons for faking her death were personal, but he was still adamant that she come back to him. He wasn't willing to let go of her without a fight because he loved her, and he was still willing to wait for her even after she left him for a second time. The incident crushed him and left him sulking, but he steeled his emotions, as strong as they were, in order to continue his mission.

Naturally intuitive and acutely observant, there isn't much that he doesn't take notice of. He has proven to have an amazing capacity for memory, as well as deduction skills to match it. He relies heavily on what he calls hunches, but doesn't necessarily act on them without logically examining them first. Without sufficient evidence, though, Aoi seems comfortable simply staying wary for some time when reason to be suspicious of anything in particular arises. Since he has had incidents where he has acted on hunches out of urgency, his team sees him as rather impulsive and rash when in fact he's actually pretty well thought out in terms of foresight and strategy. His only flaw concerning his overall effectiveness in battle would have to be his heavy reliance on his power, since it causes him to impulsively use it when panicked. Still, he finds himself being lectured by a certain peer of his (Kazura) quite often, to which he responds by either letting it go (albeit sulkily) or vehemently arguing his case. His few bad choices have been the result of one of his more distinctive traits, which is his decisiveness. While it is mostly an attractive quality, it does get him into trouble every now and then when used in practice.

As someone who has grown up financially well-off, Aoi has had access to number of academic resources that have enabled him to understand the context of power dynamics, especially on an international level. Since studying abroad in Europe, Aoi has developed a more liberal style of thinking, making the concepts of liberty and equality important to him. While he's incredibly idealistic in his values and beliefs, he isn't much of an optimist. He recognizes corruption and exploitation for what they are, understanding that even his own country has committed heinous crimes against the people of other nations in order to further their own interests. While he cares very much about his own country and its people, he probably would consider himself to be an outspoken anti-imperialist, regardless of the connotations that might follow such a radical label.

Most would say that Aoi is altruistic, though his altruism is entirely based off of his ethics, making him more noble and brave than necessarily generous. He would sooner put his own life in danger for strangers before he ever took photographs at their wedding for free. While he carries an abundance of patience with him at all times, Aoi still has a bit of a no-nonsense attitude. He doesn't consider himself to be a push-over, although he is willing to offer leeway in most situations, depending on whether or not he likes the person he's dealing with. However, more often than not, he will make it apparent when he's exasperated, especially when he's around eccentric personalities.

Regardless of what a person is to him, whether they're a friend or an enemy, he will save them so long as it's in his power or influence to do so. Aoi may appear hot-headed in some cases, but he's incredibly merciful and would prioritize the safety of others over vengeance any day. In one instance, instead of allowing Kazura, his friend and comrade, to go after someone who betrayed them, he stopped him and convinced him to focus on their task at hand. However, at the same time, he didn't stop Kazura from walking into a near-suicide mission in the epilogue, though he did attempt to reason with him. Aoi seems to pick and choose his battles according to individual circumstances. He has a great deal of compassion and values what others have to say and what they believe in, and his loyalty to his own ideals are only surpassed by his loyalty to his comrades and their safety.

Forgiveness is a natural extension of Aoi's loyalty, as it is held above all actions to make him prioritize understanding and believe in redemption. Still, as Aoi prides himself on seeing situations honestly and for what they are, he's not one to make excuses for someone else and reacts accordingly harsh. Still, he strives to resolve conflict and believe in people, and his well-meaning attitude balances out how brash he can be when attempting to make right of a situation. Overall, he's a very adaptable person, which is rather fitting for his job as a spy and team member.

PROJECTED CLASS:
Aoi would choose ACADEMIC ➠ SCHOLAR initially, if only because he knows his fighting skill just can't compare without his canon power (telekinesis). Aoi is a good strategist and would prefer to have access to information in order to gauge a battle before it can even begin. Instead of brute strength, he prefers to rely on stealth in order to get the upper-hand on the enemy. Considering his previous training as a spy, he works better getting to know the situation before throwing himself into it, anyhow. Aoi is a team-player overall and has no problem depending on the strength of others to get the job done.

He also specialized in language in school back home, so that would apply in his decision making, too.

OTHER: Uh, Aoi is a nerd, but he's still fit and above average when it comes to fighting.

[personal profile] skillshots 2013-05-11 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY:

"Ready for the best?"

Ezreal's main trait is his unnatural confidence. He is extremely cocky, due to the fact that he doesn't even have to try to do amazing things. He was born with magic flowing through his veins (moreso than most people), but gave up learning how to control it because it was too boring. Instead, he decided to explore the world around him, becoming famous for uncovering rare artifacts. One of these artifacts allowed him to control the magic inside of him, essentially making studying magic pointless. This tends to give him a bit of arogance. He loves to show off the new secrets he's uncovered, or show off on the battlefield with manually aimed magic. He loves attention.

"Normally, I wouldn't ask for help. I've come across a lot of interesting relics in my travels, but never anything like these."

His overwhelming confidence tends to make him a bit of a loner, though. He usually doesn't need help when exploring, and on the battlefield, his one-on-one dueling capabilities are second to none. At times when he desperately needs help, however, he just shrugs it off, thinking in his head 'I can do this by myself. I don't need help'. And when he finally gets the help he needs, he usually reacts with annoyance. Expect a little sass if you're trying to work with him, or have him do something for you.

"There's little time to study musty tomes when you're busy crawling around where the musty tomes originally came from."

Ezreal has a strong sense of wanderlust. Why read about history from a book when you could be finding history in its natural habitat? His constant need for finding the next big thing has brought him all across Runeterra. From the harsh Shurima Desert, to the mysterious jungles of Kumungu, Ezreal has been there and done that. It's almost like a form of ADD - he just can't sit still, he HAS to explore.

"Time to get our hands dirty."

Ezreal is fearless, able to traverse danger with ease. A menacing monster on the advance? No problem! A giant boulder trap making its way towards him? Pfft, too easy. He's an adrenaline junkie through and through, always wanting to tackle the next big challenge. If that means throwing himself in life-threatening danger, then so be it!

PROJECTED CLASS: Archer -> Gunner
Acrobatics and projectiles are what Ezreal does best, and the Gunner class fits perfectly. He loves to show off, so flashy moves are a must.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE

Ezreal has heard a lot of things about the inside of Castle Dyspros. He's heard about the dangerous monsters, and the posibility of loot. But the thing that interests him the most is the castle's archaic and completely random layout. Rooms supposedly shift around, and even the scenery might change - something completely unnatural for a castle. Since he's never heard of anything like it, he decides to go check it out, as his inner wanderlust is practically begging him to.

As he walks into the castle lobby, he peers around, noticing multiple groups of people prepping themselves for the journey inside. With a little bit of eavesdropping, he listens to their nervous jitters. Of course, this doesn't phase him, as he's had plenty of experience exploring dangerous locales. He's more excited now than anything, ready to get his hands dirty.

Out of the corner of his vision, Ezreal notices a body of a man appear on the ground. The man's eyes open, and he gets up, looking slightly confused and distressed. A few people from around the room go and comfort him, and Ezreal can't help but watch.

"So, how did you end up dying?" one of the people comforting the man asks.

"I-I don't know. All I remember was fighting this giant chimera. It came charging at me and I just... blacked out." the man replies.

"Ah, it probably took a bite out of you, then!" another man exclaims. Everyone around the room laughs, and even the newly-revived man cracks a smile.

If death in here is anything like death on the Fields of Justice, then it's nowhere near as dangerous as he expected. With an extra boost of confidence, he makes his way to the double doors leading into the castle interior, and walks through, ready to explore it for himself.

Judar | Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic | Reserved

[personal profile] incendiarism 2013-05-11 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY: When he first appears, Judar shows up looking like your stereotypical villain, acting haughty and threatening towards innocent people he’s happened across. Of course, that isn’t all there is to him. He’s actually much more immature and childish than he seems at first. He’s basically what the internet at large likes to refer to as a “brat” and a “manchild”.

To begin with, he’s a show-off. Not only does he specifically use multiple kinds of magic at once to impress Sinbad, the ridiculously strong king of foreign nation, he uses ones that are known to be difficult to use on their own, just so he can say, “How’s this!? Isn’t it amazing?”

He starts a fight with another Magi he’s only just met, because he wants to prove how much better he is than this new guy. His large ego makes him act impulsively, which ultimately blows up in his face. He doesn’t learn from this at all, save to put the Magi on his “people who I need to beat to prove I’m better” list. Fitting with his ego, he’s a terrible liar. Though he may be able to act shocked or upset, it takes only minutes for that to crumble into laughter.

He’s easily bored and dismissive of things he does not take interest in. This applies to basically everything in his life, from events to places, and most especially, to people. So, what does interest a guy like this? Mostly, he enjoys war and violence in any form, and he even outright states that war is what he really likes to see. Because of this, it only makes sense that Judar is incredibly fascinated with strong people, who he treats the best of everyone he meets because they can battle in the most brutal and interesting ways. He collects the strongest people he can find and builds them up to be even stronger by having them conquer dungeons, which grant great magical power and riches. He’s kind of like an evil Pokemon trainer, but with people instead of a team of Eevees.

As for everyone else, he literally does not care one bit about those he considers “weak”. They’re cannon fodder and stepping stones to what he wants, and he could sacrifice thousands of them to his wars without batting an eye. He especially dislikes the other Magi, likely because he doesn’t like sharing his strongest people, who could change alliances any time they want to if they chose. He does not want to share, and he does not want to respect other Magi, who could become threats to his way of doing things and his chosen warriors.

Judar likes to prove his own superiority through shows of force and is especially aggressive in picking fights. He hates losing or feeling like he’s not being properly respected as a Magi, and his ego demands that he either remedy the situation by defeating the offender in some way, or venting it by destroying things he knows the person he thinks insulted him loves.

Of course, he has his less dangerous side, as well. If he doesn’t want to eat alone and can’t find someone to eat with, he’ll make a point of travelling around the palace and throwing food at everyone he meets, especially the royal family. If one of the princesses asks him for advice, he’ll make things up to make himself look smart and will embarrass her later, such as suggesting she bathe with pigs in some obscure beauty ritual.

In the end, you could compare Judar to a cat. He’s picky about his food, he throws tantrums when he doesn’t get what he wants, and god forbid you not read his mind about exactly what he expects from you and do it in a timely manner. He likes to pretend he’s independent so he’ll be left alone, but the second you stop paying attention to him, he’s in your face again. He demands attention by behaving the way he thinks will make you like him, and if you don’t do what he wants, he’ll start behaving in the worst ways possible just to make sure you’re watching.

PROJECTED CLASS: As his specialty in canon is magic, he’s almost certain to join the Mage Guild. He has the personality and skill to try for either the Summoner or the Shaman class, and which one he ends up in will be up to however he’s feeling at that moment. His style of magic in canon more closely resembles the Summoner’s abilities, so it’s likely that he’ll choose that class due to familiarity and the broader skills available to him in that class that will make him feel more powerful.
OTHER: Canon abilities: Judar is a Magi, which is basically the top-tier of all magic users on the planet in his canon. With this rank, which one is born into, Judar can perform a lot of powerful magic using a tool to focus it through. In his case, it’s a jeweled wand.

Magoi, which is basically life force that can be used in magic, can be manipulated to create various kinds of magic basic magic. Using it, Judar can create a “bolg”, which functions as a shield against magical and physical attacks to a certain degree. Though his bolg is very strong due to his own strength with magic, enough pressure (such as that of a few tons pushing on all sides) can cause it to break. Magoi can also be used to shoot out energy blast attacks, which is effective against most opponents weaker than him.

A Magi does not generally have to use their own magoi, like other magicians. The world’s life force around them (called “rukh”) naturally feeds them any magoi they might need, with the only limit being how much their body can take at a time.

By using magoi to create more complex spells, Judar has been shown to be able to manipulate lightning, ice, gravity, and wind with magic to use as attacks and for simply moving himself around more easily. He can use many of them at once, as well.

Dear lord what am I doing

[personal profile] cryptozoological 2013-05-12 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY:

"I don't need luck; I have a plan."

Dipper doesn't give you a whole lot going off of a visible first impression. Don't let that fool you, though. Dipper may be a scrawny, twelve-year-old boy that reeks of emotional issues and baby wipes, but he's a scrawny, twelve-year-old boy who battles the weird and paranormal, using only an old cryptic book he found in the woods and his wits.

Despite his age, he's an extremely intelligent and level headed thinker. Being the direct foil of his twin sister Mabel, he's the one that applies logic and planning to problem solving, as opposed to her silly and spontaneity. When there's trouble, Dipper is the first one with a plan and the guts to execute it. He's an incredibly quick thinker, able to think under dire, life threatening situations. For example, there is an episode where he and some of his friends are trapped in a haunted convenience store with two vengeful spirits picking them off one by one. He was able to quickly puzzle out the ghosts intentions and negotiate their freedom from the store. His sharp wit and over all resourcefulness has gotten them all out of trouble on multiple occasions.

On top of his sharp wit, Dipper is a genuinely outgoing and nice kid. He has a heart for adventure and an insatiable curiosity. Unsurprisingly, he is a huge fan of mysteries and conspiracies and tends to stick his nose where it probably doesn't belong. Despite the trouble he gets into, everything he does generally has good intentions at heart. Though he may be hard pressed to admit it, his sister is his closest friend and he is always the first person by her side when she needs him. (Examples of this include him offering to tell Gideon that she wanted to break up with him so she didn't have to do it, and choosing her and her happiness over a potential timeline where he got the girl of his dreams.)

Dipper isn't without fault. As Mabel's put it, he gets in his own way. His over planning, over analytical tendencies has been known to, while be helpful in a lot of instances, seriously hold him back in situations of a more social nature. He's meticulous on a neurotic level, and compulsively makes lists to ensure things go his way. Because of his dealings in Gravity Falls, he's suspicious and easily paranoid, wary of trusting people who are not his family. He can also suffer from short bouts of insecurity and self-doubt and often feels the need to prove himself to others and to himself. He's also dumb in the sense that it takes a while for him to see when he's done something insensitive. Sometimes he's not willing to admit when he's wrong until it's pointed out to him point-blank. If the right thing to do comes between him and something he really wants, it takes him more than a hesitation to do the right thing.

In fact, it seems a lot of Dipper's own battles with morality are heavily tied into his romantic pursuits. Dipper's greatest weakness is hands down his interest in a certain aloof, red-headed cashier. When it comes to making decisions, he's often torn between choosing her, or something else of equal or higher importance. Not to mention the way his entire ability to act like a civilized human being tends to fly right out the window. At the very least, he's aware that he probably has no chance with a girl her age, but that never seems to stop him from trying, even when he really shouldn't. Like any kid his age, he's tenacious and fueled by misplaced preteen urges, and completely lacks the experience to know what the fuck he's doing. This leads him to making severely ill-advised decisions and actions when otherwise he's a perfectly intelligent and logical thinker.

When you get down to it, Dipper's still just a kid. He's smart, but lacks the experience. His maturity usually exceeds his years, but that does not mean he won't act like a proper 12-year-old sometimes. He can act bratty, or silly just as easily as he can act smart and level. This includes, but isn't limited to, him making rude prank calls and blowing up hotdogs in the microwave.

PROJECTED CLASS: Archer/Ranger. This is actually kind of funny because if this is all done ICly, and I gather that it is, then Dipper is definitely going to try and weasel his way into the warrior class. What stops him is that it reminds him a little too much of a previous escapade involving Manly Minotaurs. With that, Dipper would immediately back the fuck out again, probably stumble onto the Archer class on accident, and realize how much better it works for him.

Dipper is a strategist. He's twelve-years-old and can do calculus with the proficiency of a college student. He's shown in canon that he's exceptionally good at applying this specifically to trajectory. On top of that, Dipper's stats in one of the online games leans him more towards speed than strength. Either way, he would do really well as an archer. It's just going to take some training to get him there.

OTHER: Nothing really. Don't let his canon fool you, he can be played in a serious environment.
SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: This Musebox Post sums him up pretty good.
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE

Waking up in some weird new place was definitely an added tally to his list of weird unexplainable occurrences. Generally this list in its entirety could be blamed on the town of Gravity Falls. That was what made it easy to keep track of. Most everything would be contained to this one little town. Nothing strange had ever happened back home in Piedmont, after all. There was just something about the positioning of this place that attracted the unusual.

So, when Dipper woke up and found himself somewhere else (and separated from his twin sister) it fired off far too many red flags. Removing Gravity Falls from the equation entirely was contradicting everything he'd ever conceived about the supernatural thus far. And trust him, he had notes. A whole book's worth, in fact. Dipper was a level-headed kid, but there were limits, and this was it.

Thankfully exploring was one of the things he could use to even his nerves out. A well intentioned distraction, if you would. He needed to get an idea of what this place was, after all. His curiosity was firing on just as many cylinders as his panic and sitting in one place, screaming wasn't going to do him any favors.

Not that he did that or anything. Really.

Unfortunately, he decided to explore further into the castle, instead of peeking outside. One comical, monster-fueled chase scene later, Dipper was finally running in the right direction. Having avoided certain mauling from some unidentifiable oddity he finally reached sunlight and the outside. He stopped to catch his breath and to take in what he was actually seeing. Wow, there were no words to describe this. Well, no, that was a lie. Dipper had a few.

"I'm in a fantasy novel. Somehow, one of Mabel's cheesy romantic wizard novels decided to eat me."

That had to be it, right? What else could it be? Dimensional rift? Temporal kidnapping? Honestly, when it was Dipper, being eaten by a poorly written, young adult novel was just as likely as universe hopping.

It was something to be said about the last four weeks of his life.

Well, time to look around. He needed to get his footing. From there, he could figure out just what was going on and what he was going to do to get back home. He also needed to find Mabel, because it was pretty unlikely that he would get dropped here without her.

After that, all he needed was a plan.

IC
NAME: Wataru Mitani
CANON: Brave Story (Novel)
CANON POINT: Chapter 32.
AGE: 11~12
APPEARANCE: Right in the middle, basically, but with some differences in clothing due to showing up in in a magical fantasy land. He has a silk tunic, undyed, blue baggy pants, a hempen cord for a belt and some sturdy traveling boots. On his left arm, he wears a red leather band – the mark of a Highlander.

[personal profile] hasavision 2013-05-13 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY: Wataru is a child. Much of what he thinks can be divided cleanly into very clear categories: what is good, and what is bad. Though he is starting to see that not everything can fall into just one or the other, he is used to the idea of good vs. evil, a process not helped by his love of role playing games where the main characters are clearly good and the bad guys are downright despicable. When things begin to fall into a gray zone, he becomes confused and isn’t sure what to think of it at all. More often than not, he’ll throw his support to one side and remain fiercely loyal to it, even though sometimes that side may not be right at all – it’s the only way he knows how to deal with such situations, at the moment.

He is also sensitive to criticism, especially when he feels he has done no wrong. He has a habit of questioning things that don’t make sense to him, and when others become annoyed and call him on it, he feels hurt and angry with them. He is a very strong believer in truth and logical reasoning, so when people deny his reasoning over a pack of rumors or superstition, he is understandably annoyed. Though he does wish that magic were real, he is grounded enough to know there is no such thing outside of dreams, and contents himself with those video games as mentioned before. Although… alternately, if it is exceedingly obvious that he is in a place where magic exists, he’ll believe it. He will believe in what he can experience via his own sight and senses.

That being said… Wataru really, really likes his video games. He plays them at home often, or with his best friend Katchan. In his head, he secretly thinks of things in terms of typical RPGs: a girl who is confined to a wheelchair, unable to speak or function after being kidnapped? Totally like a princess who has been locked away in a tower. A man in a robe hanging out in an abandoned building late at night? A wizard! Of course, once Wataru actually ends up in a world that is very much like one of his video games, these comparisons only increase in number. He knows his tropes, and can usually point them out when they appear. Whether or not the trope holds true or is secretly inverted (such as an old priest turning out to be evil) depends on the specific situation.

Though he definitely has his dark side, Wataru is generally a nice kid. Sure, he can be selfish, and even jealous of others, but if he sees someone in need of help he’ll try to do something about it. When in the world of Vision and forced to race to the end of his journey or be offered up as a sacrifice as a result, Wataru couldn’t help but be continually delayed by various side-quest type adventures, helping out the oppressed people of Lyris and doing other random good deeds that others would deem unnecessary. Some even go so far as to describe him as “too gentle”, since he also happens to cry when sad things happen and that’s a big no-no for tough manly boys like him. This is in fact reflected in the creation of Vision, which is at its core an entire world made to match his heart. Although his heart is full of turmoil, represented by the racial tensions and constant troubles (although interestingly, not representing any type of racism from him; he is noted as being very accepting of everyone he encounters, regardless of their appearance), it gives him an opportunity to do what he wishes most: to help people. And in the end, it has the very real world effect of allowing him to save the souls of two children who had been trapped within this world in the form of birds.

He’s polite to people he doesn’t know, and friendly to those he does. He is ridiculously loyal to his friends, even when said friends are doing terrible things and killing hundreds of people for some very misguided reasons. He doesn’t currently have much confidence in his own abilities because the last world he ended up in made a point of showing him just how useless he was compared to his much better, stronger, cooler friend Mitsuru, but he does know how to swing a sword (kind of) and will do the best he can to become a proper warrior.

PROJECTED CLASS: As he is currently too young to join up right away, Wataru will be (grudgingly) joining up with the Seven Titans in order to become a Paladin. In the world of Vision, he joined up with a group called the Highlanders, which act much in the same way as paladins do; protecting people wherever they go and fighting for what is right as opposed to the Knights of Stengel, who work directly for the Senate. Its skillset also matches his own fighting style acquired as a Brave: he is accustomed to using a single blade that is capable of minor magics such as shooting mage bullets.

OTHER: I will be using icons from the anime since that’s the… closest visual adaptation of the novel, but as mentioned above, his actual clothes are a bit different from how they came out in the anime!

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: Testrun!
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE Wataru walked through the city, gazing about with his mouth open wide in admiration. This was not, of course, his first time seeing such a grand city, or even one that appeared so heavily inspired by RPGs. After having spent some time in the world of Vision, it would be hard to say this was exactly a new experience.

However, that didn’t make it any less impressive. Even here, the architecture was completely foreign to what he had grown accustomed to in Vision – not that the architecture of that world was exactly static, either. This city, Goldvale was it? Somehow, it carried a much different feel from any city or town he had visited before.

It’s like I jumped out of one game and into another, he couldn’t help but think. Both RPGs, but with a slightly different flavor. This was certainly one full of wizards, even if Vision had been rather sparing as far as magic users went. And hopefully, the ones here will be nicer, he thought wryly, remembering his experience at the so-called Hospital. Yes, he could do with less people trying to have him executed.

So caught up in both his thoughts and the sights themselves, he found himself bumping into a much larger man – another human. “Whoa- Sorry!” His hands shot up apologetically, and the man merely gave a grunt before moving along. People aren’t so friendly here… But maybe it’s because I don’t fit in? His eyes went to the red band around his arm. Normally people would see the mark of the Firewyrm and automatically give him respect despite his age, but he supposed that would not be the case here. After all, he was in a whole different world now – the people here couldn’t be expected to know of the Highlanders. It was likely they didn’t even exist here.

Unbidden, his mind began to turn to his friends, all Highlanders like himself, and he quickly had to shake his head to end the thought. He couldn’t keep dwelling on that, or the fact that he had once again been left on his own… He needed to find out where he could stay here, and maybe look into getting a job of some sort to support himself. His first thought had, of course, been monster slaying, but after Wayfinder Lau had reprimanded him for saying such a ridiculous thing when he first entered Vision, he was no longer so quick to assume that battling monsters would reward him in gold, or even EXP.

“I’ll just have to find some other way…” He mumbled to himself. Let’s see… if he found the mayor and explained his situation, surely he would be able to get some advice on how to proceed? In order to continue the story, you need to raise the right flags. So the first one has to be establishing contact with an official. With a nod to himself, he turned and looked for the friendliest person nearby.

“Excuse me! Can you tell me where the Mayor lives? I have something important to talk to him about.”

IC
NAME: Lyn (full name Lyndis)
CANON: Fire Emblem: The Blazing Sword (simply Fire Emblem in the US)
CANON POINT: Post-"Cog of Destiny"
AGE: 16
APPEARANCE: This is a picture of her.
PERSONALITY: Lyn was born to a Lycian noblewoman and a Sacaen nomad, and lived a relatively simple life filled with love, peace and nature. Everything changed, though, when a pack of bandits attacked her tribe, poisoning the drinking water and slaughtering everyone in their path except for Lyn herself. She escaped and spent the next six months alone, angry and saddened, until the day she stumbled upon a young woman unconscious on the plains. Taking the woman home and nursing her back to health, Lyn discovered she was a strategist by trade and asked to travel with her so she might avenge her people.

Of course, Lyn never got that chance. While stocking up on supplies in Bulgar, a young man attempted to flirt with her. The young man turned out to be a knight of Caelin, a territory in Lycia; he and his partner helped Lyn fight off some bandits and then dropped a bombshell on her: She was the missing heir to the Caelin throne. Lady Lyndis, granddaughter of the ailing Marquess Caelin. Upon learning she had a flesh and blood relative left in the world, Lyndis agreed to reclaim her title in order to rescue him.

One year after successfully achieving this goal, she found herself drawn into another war. What began as a Lycian civil war started by Laus turned into a race to stop a powerful sorcerer from calling a horde of dragons to destroy Elibe. Lyn teamed up with Lord Eliwood of Pherae and Lord Hector of Ostia, citing that they were the only ones who knew enough about the situation to do anything about it.

Lyn is, in a word, headstrong. She grew up among warriors and with a sense of pride in herself and her heritage. But her strength is a double-edged sword; it may have gotten her through some of the hardest times in her life, but with it comes the unfortunate side effect of stubbornness. She refuses to back down even in the most dangerous situations, and though she will eventually accept help she's initially reluctant to, and doubly so to ask for it. And while she has yet to push herself to the point of collapsing from exhaustion, her friends definitely are warranted in worrying about it coming to that.

However, Lyn is far from made of stone. She has her vulnerabilities and her insecurities like anyone; when she reunited with her grandfather and became the heir to the Caelin throne, she had to learn how to act like a noble lady after spending her whole life as a warrior. It hasn't been easy, and despite her hatred of such strict rules and regulations she fears disappointing her grandfather. She despises the thought of becoming "Lady Lyndis" and losing her identity, but for her grandfather's sake she knows she has to try.

She's also rather single-minded at times. Until recently, her obsession with taking revenge on the bandits who slaughtered her tribe has all but ruled her life. When she discovered her revenge had been taken for her by the knight Wallace she was initially angry, but is slowly beginning to realize why he did it and what he wanted to impress upon her: that obsession and hatred can cloud the mind, and that she does not want to succumb to them.

Despite her insecurities and her stubbornness, Lyn is a very kind person. She's quick to smile, very easy to talk to and will never turn her back on those she loves. She's a natural leader, but doesn't have too much of a problem following or assisting when she's needed. She's deeply loyal to the ones she loves, which is the source of her Sacae vs. Lycia conflict; though she longs to return to her beloved plains, she doesn't want to abandon the only blood family she has left.

Lyn is an excellent tracker due to her Sacaen heritage; she was able to sniff out fleeing Black Fang assassins despite heavy snow, and her night vision is quite good for someone who isn't a thief or a spy accustomed to that sort of thing. She's not book smart and is a bit naive at first, but she's a quick learner and very sensitive to the feelings of her friends.

PROJECTED CLASS: I picture Lyn as being the Samurai class. She doesn't have too much defense, but she does defeat enemies quickly and some of the abilities of the class are similar to her combat style in canon. Her personal weapon is essentially a katana.
OTHER: Lyndis carries a personal sword called the Mani Katti, which "chose" her after she drove off some bandits from ransacking its shrine. She also has some skill with a bow, not as much as her comrades in the war but she's a fairly good shot.

FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: On the Broken meme (March)

Bodyguard meme (April)

[Her image is projected to the other side, sleepy and still a little disoriented. Lyn is still not completely used to her new surroundings; upon waking up she'd been worried when she saw Florina wasn't asleep in the bed next to hers.]

Good morning, everyone. I...I think I understand this place a little better now, thanks to everyone who helped me.

I still wish I had a way of knowing that everyone back at home was okay. That last battle was tough, and... [She tries not to think about Nino's sorrow at losing the last of her family, or Ninian offering herself up for capture to protect Nils] Is there a way I can contact people on the outside?

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE Must take place in the game's setting. 300 words minimum.

The city is beautiful, but so crowded. Lyn carefully makes her way through the crowds, trying not to step on or shove anyone as she takes in her surroundings. It reminds her a bit of Lycia, in a way, but...not quite. Subtle differences, little things...the people seem friendly enough, at least so far. No one's talked to her, but they haven't been rude to her and she can hear snatches of conversations and greetings here and there.

The attendants at the castle were very helpful, much to her relief. The castle was lovely, but she knew some nobles and their attendants could be rather snooty, especially to strangers. Especially to strangers from foreign lands who still wore their swords at their side. Somehow they hadn't mistaken her for a prowler or an assassin. Though one had said she was smart to stand and wait instead of rushing further into the castle, so Lyn guessed she'd done something right. Jasper and Beryl, they'd called themselves as they guided her into the bustling city. The first thing they'd told her to do was join a guild. That sounded simple enough until Lyn realized she wasn't sure where to sign up.

Which guild was right for her? Should she just guess and hope she made the right choice, or go somewhere to find out more about these guilds? After debating it, she decided it was best to think before she acted; her headstrong impulsiveness had gotten her into trouble more than a few times in the past, and the last thing she needed was to find herself in a bad situation her first day in a strange new place.

So she walked through the city, searching and thinking. The information she had been given was helpful, at least. Finally, she found a large building and decided this must be where you signed up.

"Okay. Step one conquered," she whispered to herself as she walked through the door.

NAME: Online Alias is Tabby; her real name is Moe Kubo, but she'll be going by the former since she'll be in her avatar's body.
CANON: .hack//roots
CANON POINT: post episode 25
AGE: 16
APPEARANCE: nya
PERSONALITY:

At the start of .hack//roots, Tabby is a newbie to The World, and it definitely shows. Naive and earnest, Tabby has no idea how complicated and intricate The World can be, in terms of gameplay as well as player politics. Unlike Haseo, who becomes immediately involved with members of important guilds in The World, Tabby claims that her only connections are Sakisaka and Shino, something that shocks Sakisaka. She also projects the idea that it's just a game, so the only goal is to have fun; this shows how unknown the underlying issues and intrigue of The World are to Tabby.

It also becomes immediately clear that Tabby is a very social person who mainly joined so she could make friends; in fact, when Sakisaka prompts her for her reason for joining the Twilight Brigade, Tabby merely says 'because she was invited' and 'because Shino is nice'. Tabby is shimmering with cheer and happiness, always bouncing around the world without much of a care in the world. Her lightheartedness is also perpetuated in how overly forward she can be with people; for example, after being told to train with Sakisaka after joining the Twilight Brigade, she dons him 'teacher' and calls him that for the rest of the anime.

Tabby also isn't the sharpest claw on the paw. Even after playing The World for months, her short attention span limits her from absorbing a lot of integral information about the game; when helping out two newbies, they best the monsters before her because they know about elemental attributes and how to kill armored monsters because they actually read the manual.

Honestly, Tabby can be a bit annoying. She has almost no sense of personal space, and consistently invades Haseo's even though it's clear he's uncomfortable with it. Her effervescent optimism can be cloying and inappropriate times, like when the members of the Twilight Brigade are being stalked and PKed constantly, and she remarks that it'll be 'okay no matter what happens'. When called out on her incessant cheerfulness, however, is when you see her crumble. Sakisaka prods her about it, to which she loudly replies, 'it's not like she wants to be', then runs away crying.

Here, we catch a glimpse of Moe Kubo; the player behind Tabby. A depressed, down-on-her-luck girl, Moe takes medication to deal with her familial problems and inherent loneliness. With a serious inferiority complex because of her older sister; much prettier, smarter, and more popular than she is, Moe feels that she has to battle for attention, a battle she more often than not loses. Attention is what Tabby craves, whether it be negative or positive; in fact, after the battle with TaN, and its eventual dissolution, The Twilight Brigade becomes somewhat infamous in The World, which makes everyone but Tabby unhappy or shy away from the attention. Bset even scolds her for being 'too cheerful' about it.

Tabby is lonely in real life, with few friends and serious depression. We can see this depression leaking in when she reacts to people violently or makes impulsive decisions, such as her decision to make a guild shortly after the crumbling of the Twilight Brigade. For Tabby, she has to constantly be surrounded by people she loves, or doing something she enjoys, to distract her from her day to day life. When something interferes with that, she can become spiteful or outright bratty. We can see this when she announces to Phyllo that Shino is her 'rival' for Haseo's attention, as Haseo only seems to be concerned about her. Tabby has a natural sense of competition with nearly everyone that stems from her inferiority.

Tabby is very loyal. You could even say she depends on the bonds she's formed in The World. During her span of membership of The Twilight Brigade, she proves from day one that she's a team player; she's always saluting her fellow members and is always there to support them, even when the odds are so against them. Even when Haseo becomes a deranged and hostile PKK, Tabby sticks by him and tries her best to support him, despite how cold he is to her. This is because, to Tabby, friends are something precious. Her friends in The World are all Tabby has.

Tabby later admits to a young boy she meets in The World, Wool, that all she ever wanted was for someone to believe in her, to depend on her, like Shino. This is why she admires her. She wants to be appreciated for who she is, for others to accept her despite her flaws. Kuhn then, later, assures her that she does have her place; that people do need her. "In a critical situation like this, do you know what's needed? A positive attitude to overcome the crisis."

Being useful is Tabby's goal. To be useful to Haseo, to Shino, to her family; it's all she ever wants, but she was never sure how to achieve it. It's not until talking to Tohta that she finally realizes how to do this. It clicks that, to truly be of help, she has to do what she is capable of. She has to stop trying to be Haseo's Shino surrogate. She resolves that she'll support Haseo, from the sidelines, and with the help of Tohta and her new friend Seisaku, forms the Pawpad Squadron to heal Haseo and all of the people he PKs. Later, her resolve is echoed in real life, when she asserts a desire to become a nurse to help revive her friend, Shino.

Tabby spends much of the latter half of the anime trying to find her purpose. She worries about Shino, about Ovan, about Haseo. In the end, she realizes that she depends too much on them. Her feelings and emotions are directly tied to them. She decides that she'll work hard to her goal, and even if she falls short, at least she tried. It's the least she can do to pay back the friends that did so much for her in The World. From Tabby, we can learn a great deal about kindness, resilience, and the value of friendship, and its role on how it shapes us.

PROJECTED CLASS: Pugilist. In The World, the MMORPG Tabby is a member of, she was a Tribal Grappler, which was roughly the same as a pugilist is in Dyspros. She would be most attracted to this class because of the familiarity, as well as the fact that she can effectively use the Feline Soul gauntlets that Shino gave to her in this class. While Oracle could arguably fit her and her want to heal others, her want to use the gauntlets would overpower this, and she'd instead prefer to subclass in it.
OTHER: she'll be remaining in her avatar's form!

Itou Miyabi | Yamada-kun and the 7 Witches

[personal profile] themuggle 2013-05-14 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
IC
NAME: Itou Miyabi.
CANON: Yamada-kun and the 7 witches.
CANON POINT: chapter 59.
AGE: 16.
APPEARANCE: Your average teenage girl.
PERSONALITY:
Suzaku High has a surprising amount of problem students and Itou Miyabi is one of them. These kids don't do well in school, are bullied, or left on the fringes of society. Itou is one that gets ignored. She made it all the way to the second year without making a single friend and is a giant joke around the school. Ever heard of the boy that cried wolf? Well, that's pretty much how she's treated. To seek attention she attached herself to the occult overwhelm anyone new enough to listen to her tales with blatant lies about UFO sightings and the like. It got so bad that no one listened even when she told the truth and just laughed at her to her face. She saw her last chance to make friends in the newly formed Supernatural Studies Club.

Which wasn't a club set up for supernatural studies at all, but a safe place for Yamada and friends to experiment with the Witch Powers. Yeah, in this high school said problem children sometimes are given super special powers to help them reach out and make friends. Itou didn't get one but she doesn't let that keep her down. After learning about the real supernatural happenings of the clubs he opens up ten times more than before. Especially since she shares a secret with her club mates and actually becomes friends with them. This was a major breakthrough for her as she has never, ever really had good friends. When she invites them over to her house her family is ecstatic that she finally brought someone over. The fact that she has only recently dealt with these things called friends means she is still totally socially awkward though.

No longer alienated or hated Itou lets her true colors shine. As a complete and utter dweeb. When she was ignored and laughed at she was quiet and serious, trying to appear mature and cool to win people over. But once that hurdle was passed there was no holding back her loud and bubbly personality. She is energetic and gets emotional quickly. In short, she's overbearing. Once she gets going she doesn't stop and that goes for whether she is talking about something she loves or rampaging mad. She's still serious about some things, the other members would sit around eating snacks if she didn't motivate them, but they are definitely childish subjects to get testy about. She worries about the club room looking like a club room, what to do during culture festivals, and dumb school things like that. It's pretty normal worries considering they routinely deal with crazy things like preventing school fires, getting expelled by crazy first years, and being the student council's errand runners.

The love of the occult is really not an act for attention either. When she wants something she doesn't hold back to get it. She spent hundreds of yen on fake occult merchandise just so she could show it off in the hopes of getting friends, and once she got those friends she really doesn't hold back in the experimentation. Which can get a bit awkward considering the powers only work with you kiss someone. It's pretty amazing how fast she stops caring about kissing a boy or other girls when it's for science.

In summary, Itou is your normal everyday teenager who has a bunch of crazy friends with magical kissing powers. It's sad when the crazy occult fan is the most normal of the bunch.

PROJECTED CLASS: Considering Itou is a normal human girl with no prior training she is doing what any teenager would do and pick the coolest sounding one! Taking into account her love for the occult and the fact she isn't sporty at all the most obvious choice is the Mage guild as a Summoner. She will have a lot of cool trinkets and use magic to help out without having to be on the front lines. The best of all worlds for her.
OTHER: none!

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: A meme thread.

Testing, testing!

[Hello, there is a bright and bubbly redhead now on screen. Not for long though as the screen suddenly moves to and fro erratically before settling back down to a standstill. There is a goofy laugh before she begins again.]

So it does move! I was worried it might just track on my face or something. Oh, but that isn't important. [She clears her throat.] My name is Itou Miyabe and I'm the strongest mage you will ever meet! If you ever need help in your endeavors look no further than The Great Itou!

[A pretty obvious lie since she doesn't even remember the correct class term... But she seems to be enjoying the idea a lot so don't judge her too harshly.]

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE
Everything here was amazing. Itou had bought 'magical' items off of the internet before but even she knew it was a scam. Never in her wildest dreams had she ever thought she would find herself in a real magical marketplace overrun with tools for spell casting and exotic everything! She had left that morning on a mission to buy -- with money she didn't have -- fitting flowing robes for her new life as a Summoner.

It was obvious to her to join the most magical guild as it obviously had to be the best and most exciting. But she really didn't look the part as she was now. Who would cower in fear of a small girl in a school uniform waving around a wand. This wasn't some magical girl show, she was now a real life sorceress and she needed to look the part. Which meant robes of the deepest black or richest purple, a cowl to obscure and add mystery, and the most mystic staff and channeling trinkets. Oh yes, she had it all planned out. Monsters were going to run away at the sight of her after she got decked out.

Some part of her brain was reminding her she should be scared out of her mind after being kidnapped. She was just a normal girl. She wasn't even special like her friends, she had no secret powers or especially interesting back story. She wouldn't make the cut as a heroine at all. But the majority of her mind was just too taken with the idea of real magic. Or maybe the entire thing was in her wildest dreams and she just never gave herself enough credit. Either way, worrying was not winning any battles today. She was living in the land of dragons, princesses, and magic and she wasn't going to let anything slow her down. And living the life currently included pressing her face against the window and getting an eye full of beautifully embroidered robes. Well, there was only one way to try and get it right now.

Itou burst into the shop. "Hello, Sir Shopkeeper! Do you have any great deeds or requests for me to complete?" You never know, maybe she could haggle the robe as a reward.

IC
NAME: Kaniehtí:io (Goes by 'Ziio')
CANON: Assassin's Creed (Assassin's Creed III)
CANON POINT: After the the induction of Charles into the Templars.
AGE: 23
APPEARANCE: HERE
PERSONALITY:
Level-headed, calm, and graceful, or some particular traits that when Ziio is approached for the first time make a blatant expression on her character. Her tanned skin and her attire are enough to cause some attention but it's the steady way she carries herself that most find to be very intriguing. Ziio is a proud young woman and she doesn't consider herself beneath or greater than anyone. She doesn't fear being different as she canonly shows by walking amongst the English settlers in her own attire in stead of changing her dressings, and she certainly doesn't react to things that don't concern her. Insults, cat-calls, anything distracting that she doesn't have a part in she merely shrugs off or ignores leaving the culprits speechless with how effectively swift she can shut someone up.

Different aspects of her personality revolve around the fact Ziio is very blunt. Although serious, she does seem to have a sense of humor and she does canonly regard others emotions when she speaks with them. She has a very good sixth sense when it comes to reading people. Her conversations might be short but whatever she doesn't say in her silences, it's more than likely she understands the other and sympathizes. This is proof of her more gentle side, despite how harsh war can be she still keeps her sense of kindness in check. She helps those that need help, she's got a good level head on her shoulders.

Because Ziio is a fighter, she understands that sometimes violence is key. That being said, she seems to have a very solid understanding of the consequences between murder and mercy. Most times her actions reflect a more passive approach despite how willing she is to accept a murder plot. She approaches these topics without hesitation, she doesn't particularly fear death as her actions portray in her canon (by sizing up a rebellion and trying to murder military officials single-handedly) but she does seem to care about her loved ones.

Ziio expresses a very strong loyalty to her tribe and considering most of her actions were to protect them, she seems to be able to go the distance for the people she cares about. Haytham, a comrade she acquires with a similar goal, becomes part of the people she wants to protect when he proves himself to her. That being said, one can assume that Ziio operates through honor. She's a woman of her word, if she promises something she'll do it, but it means a lot more when someone returns the same loyalty. She's willing to put her own life in danger for this.

In regards to temperament, Ziio has amazing patience. It's probably a trait that makes her such a good hunter, she seems to handle pressure well. She doesn't take rash decisions and she calculates her next move with very much regard to consequence. That being said, she has the potential of being pretty nasty in the sense that if ridding herself of a problem through murder is a possible solution once her patience threshold is met, she won't hesitate to do it. She's not afraid to take a life, she just doesn't lose her head before doing it.

PROJECTED CLASS:
Because Ziio can get around places without being seen and because she can work around people well, she easily falls under the thief class. She's also a very good fighter trained for assassination so it won't be hard for her to kill someone if she has to. Her moral compass is pretty high but she also understands the effectiveness of taking a life to solve big problems. She won't flinch and she doesn't screw up. She'll fearlessly walk into the lion's den if she has too.

OTHER: Not any at the moment.

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE:
[There was a lot say for a skeptic who although believing in magic, couldn't possibly fathom how a gem could communicate with people. She held it at a distance out of caution as she looked straight into it. There were a few men watching her in amusement as she turned her attention to one of them.]

What now. Do I speak? [The closest to her nodded his head and she returned her attention to the communicator, a frown painted across her lips. She wasn't sure what to say now that she was put on the spot. Why not be diplomatic.]

Kanien'kehá:ka. [Real mouthful.] If this name means anything to you, speak. I don't have any answers but I will find them. For now, we must regroup. My people, if you're here... Haytham-

[Before she could continue, the men seemed curious and began asking questions, she wasn't going to appease them but she didn't bother finishing her sentence. She merely reached for one of their drinks.]

Make yourself useful. I'll be here for a while.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE
The way Ziio was walking down the market almost made it seem like she hadn't just arrived to this strange new world a few days ago. Her gray eyes didn't show any fear instead there was curiosity. Her hands were at her side and ever step she took down the pebbled lane was graceful and smooth placing a contrast to the bustle of the market place. Some lifted their heads in her direction catching sight of the feathers on the top of her head or the earthly colors of her garbs but no one spoke to her since she never made eye contact.

She knew the ways of a busy market place. A shame she couldn't buy anything. Yet.

Her eyes were moving from vendor to vendor at all their curious buys. Most of the stuff she recognized but there were plenty new things she was aching to ask about. She didn't trust this place, not yet at least, so her silence would carry until she was sure she could bother. So far nothing had happened to her, she was remotely safe. The idea of being in another place that wasn't her world was unnerving but she wasn't going to let that get to her. She hid her frustrations well. It was easy to think about her family and friends, her lover, but she didn't allow herself to drop her caution for nostalgia. She wasn't safe yet so there was no point losing her head if she could fix the inevitable.

Not too far from her she saw children playing about the alley ways. If there was something she knew it was that the innocence of children never lied. She watched them following them through the cracks their chasing formed through the adults until she cloaked in the shadows of an alley way. A few more steps and she found a ladder leading to the roofs. She gave it a smirk. How ironic, it was like being back in Boston all over again.

"I guess some things never change." Guess who was going to have a little fun running on the rooftops? The children turned and watched her and she brought a finger over her lips silencing them before disappearing and climbing.

IC
NAME: Ja'far
CANON: Magi: The Magical Labyrinth
CANON POINT: His most recent canon point, which was at the end of the Zagan arc when Aladdin, Alibaba, and Morgiana leave Sindria.
AGE: 26
APPEARANCE: here and here!
PERSONALITY: As the head government official of Sindria, Ja'far is serious, hardworking, and very determined in his duties. He's actually quite a bit of a workaholic, supposedly getting a rash when he doesn't work - or at least gets stressed out and extremely worried when things are not being done or being finished correctly. He's easily aggravated, and consistently gets angry with Sinbad - especially considering said king constantly gets them into trouble in some form or another, which drives Ja'far up the wall. Ja'far usually disapproves of what Sinbad gets up to, which Ja'far tends to have to clean up. It can be as simple as him getting far too drunk and causing issues with women, or more serious issues, such as Sinbad's manipulation of Kougyoku and the main three. He will very openly voice his disappointment in Sinbad's actions, but still willingly fix the messes and usually get them out of whatever sticky situation Sinbad has managed to put them in. He constantly offers him advice, even if it's usually in the form of scolding. Still, he has a large amount of respect for Sinbad, saying that he would "follow him to the end," no matter what choices Sinbad has made or will make in the future. They're also very close, with Ja'far being Sinbad's first companion and follower, and being the sole person that has a nickname for the king. He, as a child, had tried to kill Sinbad, but for currently unknown reasons, began following him as afterwards and has stayed by his side since.

He takes his job extremely seriously as well, growing angry when others are slacking off or not doing their work. Which, of course, leads to him snapping at Sinbad and many of the other generals - especially Pisti, Sharrkan, and Masrur - often when they either slack off or cause him trouble. His devotion to Sindria and, especially, Sinbad, can drive him to extremes. This can either be humourous, in which he's ready to strip and dive into the ocean to find a giant pearl that Pisti had seen at the bottom solely to get more funds for Sindria; or dangerous, in which he was ready to kill Kassim for insulting Sinbad. He is also a very skilled fighter, trained in a special form of assassination techniques.

On the other hand, Ja'far is usually quite amiable and excels in his duties as an official for his country, usually coming along on efforts to strengthen ties or form alliances. When not angry, he's usually fairly cheerful and even jokes around, seen teasing Sinbad and others when they're being ridiculous. He tends to act like a bit of a mother with people younger than him, settling disputes between the younger generals and also having a bit of a soft spot for Aladdin and the others. He takes quite a bit of pity on Aladdin after he loses Ugo, babying him to the point that Aladdin grows ridiculously fat in an effort to cheer him up. He also disciplines the other generals quite a bit, punishing them for fighting amongst each other or for causing trouble. People often look up to him for this reason, and many people rely on him for government work and for advice. He's often the sole logical voice in situations, and gets stressed out due to the amount of work and people relying on him.

Ja'far is also a bit of a lightweight, getting drunk easily and apparently getting a bit wild when he is drunk, if the drawings of him drunk are of any indication. He doesn't seem to enjoy Sinbad and the other's partying, however, usually looking quite bored or being in charge of cleaning up during them. He also tries to curb Sinbad's drinking habits, sometimes actually being successful - until someone else ruins it.

Overall, Ja'far is an easily angered, fairly serious individual, who is perfectly suited for his role as advisor to Sindria.

PROJECTED CLASS: While he's not exactly the most shady of people nowadays, Ja'far is still trained and highly adept at being an assassin, which stretches back into his childhood. He's quite skilled at sneaking around, eavesdropping, and wouldn't think twice about using underhanded methods to help Sinbad or those important to him. (Which is. Basically Sinbad, but shhh.) He may be a completely respectable government official now, but he can easily take back on the role of an assassin.

OTHER: He uses a strange sort of weapon - it's two knives shaped like darts, tied onto ropes or wires that he wraps around his arms. He's highly proficient with them, and can either pierce with the knives or use the wires to pull objects and people around.

However, these are tied to one of Sinbad's djinns, which allows him to use a fairly powerful attack that utilises Baal's powers of electricity/lightning. Sinbad has to have his djinn on hand for this to be utilised, as it relies on Sinbad being on contact with them. I'm not sure if this power in particular would be allowed in the game - especially since it depends on Sinbad - but he would and does use the knives sans said power.

SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON SAMPLE: here!
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE Unfortunately for Ja'far, he was quite used to being woken up in some sort of strange situation. Being Sinbad's advisor and friend for so long had meant that it was just another part of his life to find himself in a strange place with strange people all around him.

That, however, did not make it any less aggravating.

The castle he woke up in was very strange, and going further into what seemed like a very dark, unscrupulous place had, of course, been a very bad idea. A few very strange creatures and two odd thieves later had given him one hell of a headache. Not only did he have to fight against something unknown, but he very quickly found himself without something incredibly important - his connection to Baal, and therefore his Balalark Sei. Which could only mean one of two things: either something bad happened to Sinbad, or his idiot of a king had gotten his stuff stolen again.

With a grumble under his breath, and trying desperately to clean the monster goop off of his blades, he nearly didn't even notice the two men staring at him. The two guards thankfully seemed to be of a sane sort, but had no interest in talking to Ja'far outside of what seemed to be their single script.

"Welcome, newcomer. Have you thought about joining a guild?"

"A what?" Ja'far questioned back, staring at the city that was just peaking into view outside the doors. Oh, how he would rather not deal with strangers at the moment. He would much rather find Sinbad and figure out just what was going on, since this was clearly his fault, as per usual.

"A guild," the guard repeated, as if Ja'far was an idiot. "It's what everyone does around here."

Three more minutes of insisting that a guild was the best life choice possible, and a calm smile and assurance that yes, yes that would be lovely in response, and Ja'far was finally able to leave.

Brushing one last speck of dust off of him, he shuffled out the doors, staring out at the new city around him. It didn't seem like a bad place, but it wasn't familiar, further making Ja'far worry. "Sinbad," he huffed, starting down the steps towards what seemed like the center of town. "I swear, this is the last time I convince you into letting me drink."

APPEARANCE: here!
prayer: <user name=hollowedsky site=livejournal.com> (how did you forget my face?)

[personal profile] prayer 2013-05-14 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY:
Isn't it obvious? All I have to do is put her out of commission... permanently.

When first introduced to Kyouko, we see a very selfish girl - and she is. Right off the bat, she starts putting people in danger. Because they don't produce grief seeds, she stops Sayaka from destroying the familiar (a magical being that will eventually evolve into a witch) she had been pursuing in the alleyway. If killing it serves no benefit to her, why bother? We also see her sadistic side very early on: she explains to Sayaka that -- like other organisms -- there is a food chain when it comes to being a magical girl. "The witches eat the weak humans. And we eat those witches." In a later episode, confronting Sayaka outside of Kyousuke's home, she suggests that Sayaka should use her magic to cripple him so that he has no choice but to rely on her. When Sayaka begins to grow furious, Kyouko offers to do the deed herself. She sounds pretty unlikable at this point, right? But - of course - there is more than meets the eye. Kyouko's selfishness comes with good reason.

The thing I wished for destroyed my whole family. I brought all this suffering down on my family 'cause I made a wish for my dad without knowing what he really wanted. Miracles aren't free, y'know? If you wish for something good to happen, a whole lot of bad stuff's gonna happen, too. I guess that's how the world stays in balance.

Born into a religious family, Kyouko lived with her mother, her younger sister - Momo - and her father, who was a preacher. Her father was a very kind man, who Kyouko says would cry while reading the newspaper because of the state of the world was in. Believing things needed to change, he began to preach ideas that strayed from the church's accepted and recognized teachings. The churchgoers did not support his methods and eventually stopped attending her father's sermons. He was excommunicated from the church, and Kyouko's family sank to rock bottom. With no one to believe in him besides his family, there was no way for him to support them; they lost their home and all of the other things that normal families would take for granteed. Kyouko, distressed that no one would give her father the time of day, was unable to accept their situation. After being contacted by Kyubey, she wished for everyone to listen to and believe in her father's words, thus becoming a magical girl. Things immediately started to look up. The day after, people from all over flocked to her father's church in unbelievable amounts. While her father shared the word of God he believed in, Kyouko fought witches on the sidelines, proud of herself and what she was now able to do. However, the happiness her family found didn't last long. Eventually her father found out the real reason for the sudden influx of followers and quickly descended into madness. He called Kyouko a "deceiving witch" and started drinking excessively, his breakdown leading him to murder his family and then his own suicide. Only Kyouko survived. This event changes Kyouko drastically. By the time Kyouko appears in the anime, she has already been a magical girl for ~2 years. Since then, she's subconsciously abandoned her old powers for the new magic she's learned. Selfish as she may be, this is evidence that she can feel guilt. It's easy to make the connection that she's ignored her wish-given powers because they are ultimately what caused the death of her entire family.

You don't get it when I explain it, and trying to beat some sense into you ain't really working. Guess my only option is to kill you!

Kyouko is quick to jump to violence in situations, especially in those where she deems people unable to listen to her reasoning as idiots or people who just don't get it, and decides that there is no other way to get through to them. This doesn't seem to bother her much - when Kyouko fights, she does it with a grin on her face and it helps if there's something in it for her. She shows no qualms about her goal being to kill Sayaka. With Mami dead, she considers Mitakihara territory her own, and the only thing that stops her from her goal is Homura, forcing her to retreat The way she fights can also be linked back to the sadistic side she sometimes shows. She'll egg people on (as she does in the later episodes with Sayaka) to get them wound up enough to fight, and once challenged, Kyouko does not like to be interrupted or have things cut short.

If I see you wasting food like that again, I will kill you.

Being a person who does a lot of things on her own, Kyouko is a bit socially inept. Whether she does it to protect herself or not, Kyouko does not attempt to form any bonds with the other girls and refers to them only as "you" (in Japanese she uses the word "anta" instead of "anata" or "kimi." "anta" which is an impolite way of referring to someone in Japan.) and doesn't hesitate to throw swears and insults around. Bluntness is a prominent quality she has, too. It isn't until she connects with Sayaka that she calls her by name, the only other one to be formally addressed by her being Mami, as a former trainee under her care. When she does try, things don't go 100% smoothly. Meeting Madoka up on the roof in episode nine, she ends up saying a few things that come out the wrong way and she has to reword - Kyouko has spent a long time fighting alone after a life that was ridiculously sucky and for her to harden herself against the world and people in it only makes sense. It's hard to break. Subsequently, because of how long her family went without it, Kyouko treasures food as if it were gold. If someone wastes food in front of her, such as Sayaka did in the church, she impulsively reacts and will not hesitate to "punish" them, from a punch or even strangling someone. Giving away her food to someone else - no matter how much she has - is a big deal. Choking people is not the best way to make an ally.

It'd be like one of those stories where love and courage triumph over all.

While we see a lot of her selfish and mean-spirited attitude, Kyouko doesn't lack the ability to sympathize or care about people other than herself. Once recognizing that Sayaka is walking on the same type of path she had before everything fell apart, she starts to look out for her. She sees herself in Sayaka and thus wants to prevent her from getting hurt whether it be mentally or emotionally, even when she denies Kyouko's request for her to change her ways. For the last few days of her life, Sayaka becomes the axis she revolves around. Kyouko shows up numerous times to try and protect Sayaka; while fighting Elsa Maria, when Homura attempts to kill Sayaka before she meets her inevitable fate, searching for her until she finds her in the train station and retrieving her body from Oktavia's lair until she is able to find a solution to (what ends up being) her short-lived quest. Like Sayaka, Kyouko was very much an idealist. She believed in fairy tale endings, the kind where justice prevails and the good guys end up happy while the baddies get stomped on. After her family falls to shambles, Kyouko's idealistic views crumble and slip through her fingers and she makes the choice to use magic only for herself. Sayaka, however, was able to reawaken her to what she once felt, and that's part of what drives Kyouko to try and save her. Saying she abhors the weak would be wrong. It's those who have the power to do something and waste it that sets her off. In the hallway of Oktavia's lair, stops to lecture Madoka on deciding to become a magical girl on a whim. If you have a life that treats you well, you don't waste it on something that should be your very last resort. To quote her: "I'd never allow that to happen. Hell, I'd kick your ass before you could."

You've gotta focus on the one thing that means the most to you, and protect it to the end. It's funny... All this time... that's what I thought I was doing.

Warding off Oktavia's attacks, she recalls her first meeting with Sayaka and how they've acted around each other since. She reveals that she admires Sayaka's stubbornness in a way: no matter how much Kyouko would beat her or call her things like naive, Sayaka would stand right back up again. Sayaka wasn't a wuss like Kyouko had thought her to be. The attempt at getting Sayaka to turn back into normal is utterly failing, but still Kyouko tries to reach out to her, becoming aggressive with her desperation for Sayaka to return to her real self, telling her that she understands her anger but wants her to wake up and use her powers like she promised to. Finally understanding and accepting that there is no other way around it, Kyouko resolves to kill Sayaka as an act of mercy. She not only shows concern for Sayaka but also Homura and Madoka, advising Homura to take Madoka away from Oktavia's lair, having already put Madoka in enough danger by taking her along. Summoning a gigantic version of her spear, she reassures Sayaka that she doesn't have to worry. Kyouko will stay with her and not let her die alone, she won't let her be all by herself. She knows exactly how it feels to be alone. The attack is so powerful that it shatters Kyouko's soul gem, and with it, takes her own life and Sayaka's. For someone so determined to use magic only for herself, she ends her life with a very selfless act.

Hey, God, if You're there... My life sucked. So, for once... please... let me have a happy dream.

Through all the bad things to happen to her throughout her life - having no food or shelter, the destruction of her family, the guilt she has for it, losing friends and finding out the dark secrets that come with being a magical girl - there is still something Kyouko manages to hold onto in the end: hope. Hope that there is a way to get Sayaka to understand, to save her, even without knowing if her plan may even work. She takes that hope along with her when she dies; she has at least saved Sayaka, and herself, from the loneliness that plagued them.
